iPhone 12 Mini Model Number A2176, A2398, A2399, A2400 Differences

Apple introduced a full range of 4 new iPhone 12 models during the October event. Among them, the iPhone 12 Mini seems to be the most attractive phone because it has pretty much the same features as higher-end versions in a much more manageable size and an affordable price tag starting from $699 (or $729 for unlocked edition).
The 5.4-inch screen with small bezels makes it the world’s smallest, thinnest, and lightest 5G phone. It is even smaller than the 2nd-generation iPhone SE. While many users want a bigger screen to play games or watch videos, most average consumers just need a phone to keep them connected, surf the web, or check emails. Therefore, the Mini version is more than enough and it is much more convenient because it is easy to use one-handed. Besides, there are just a few compromises as compared to the iPhone 12 or Pro versions.
The iPhone 12 Mini still features the same Apple’s A14 Bionic chip, flat aluminum sides, an OLED display, Ceramic Shield glass for better durability, IP68 rating for water and dust resistance, Magsafe magnet system, a dual camera setup with a 12-megapixel f/1.6 main camera, and the broadest 5G coverage worldwide (sub‑6 GHz and mmWave).
The iPhone 12 Mini comes in 4 model numbers, which are A2176, A2398, A2399, and A2400. Apple released different model numbers for different markets and their cellular bands are different as well. For each model number, there are a wide range of part numbers specifying the country, carrier, storage (64GB, 128GB, 256GB), and color options (White, Black, Blue, Green, Red). Let’s check out all of those models in the table below.
iPhone 12 Mini A2176
Description
The iPhone 12 Mini A2176 is the exclusive model for the United States. This is the best model for 5G because it is the only one supporting the super-fast 5G mmWave (bands n260 and n261). It has a large groove on the right side for the mmWave antenna. The version supports Dual SIM with nano‑SIM and eSIM.
The iPhone 12 Mini A2398 is the model sold in Japan and Canada. Notice that the Japanese model still has the mandatory shutter sound when taking photos and it can’t be turned off. This model supports Dual SIM (nano‑SIM and eSIM).
The iPhone 12 Mini A2399 is considered the global version because it is the most popular version sold worldwide. You can get this model in Asia, Europe, Australia, Africa, and South America. This model has Dual SIM (nano‑SIM and eSIM). Notice that the version in Hong Kong and Macao also doesn’t support dual nano-SIM cards. The version in Korea has a mandatory camera shutter sound.
The iPhone 12 Mini A2400 is the model sold in China mainland. This model features Dual SIM with eSIM and a nano-SIM card. Notice that it has FaceTime Audio disabled.

Thanks for clarifying this ! The official info sheets by Apple does not mention clearly the difference between the China mainland iPhone 12 mini model and all the other ones regarding the dual SIM card. Great contribution, and timely too ! Lao Bo
