Apple, a company so beloved by its loyal fans, is known for its great technical support and user-friendly interface. Apple products, just like any tech device, do have some bugs, glitches, and insanely frustrating errors. So, what can you do if your phone says “iPhone is not activated, contact your carrier” and what even does this mean?
Whether your iPhone was purchased brand new, refurbished, or from an individual this type of activation error can happen. AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, and T-Mobile customers are all susceptible to the activation dilemma as well as smaller cellular providers.

What Does the Error Mean?

Check the SIM Card
If you receive an activation error on your phone one of the first things to try after a power cycle (turning your phone off and back on) is to check your SIM card. There are a lot of reasons why this tiny chip may fail but you’ll want to check that it is properly installed and free of any dust or debris.
Use a SIM popper, paperclip, or earring to open the SIM tray on the right side of the phone’s body. Use a clean dry cloth to remove any lint and place the card back into the tray ensuring that it is seated properly.

If you’ve recently made a change to your cell phone account or you’ve just purchased the phone your best bet is going to first verify that the carrier has the right SIM card and IMEI numbers in the system.
Other than those few points, let’s move onto fixing your iPhone activation errors.
Restart
A quick restart of your iPhone can be an easy and simple way to fix the error that shows up. Restarting your iPhone does not guarantee that your activation issues on your iPhone will be fixed, but it’s a good place to start as it makes sense to start with the simplest solution.
To restart your iPhone, hold the power button (or the power button and volume up button on new iPhones) until the slider bar shows up and slide it to turn your iPhone off. Then turn your iPhone back on again to see if your activation issue has been resolved.

Скорей всего, вы сделали это буквально только что (прямо перед прочтением статьи) и наверняка были немало удивлены тем, что напротив строчки оператор указано не привычное название вроде Билайн, Мегафон или МТС, а непонятное слово «Carrier» и какие-нибудь цифры.
Если быть точнее, то слово, конечно же, вполне себе понятное — ведь его легко перевести с английского языка как «оператор». Но вот откуда оно взялось? Почему написано именно «Carrier», что с ним делать, стоит ли беспокоиться, как его исправить и нужно ли всем этим заморачиваться? Вопросов много — ответов пока нет. Но это ненадолго…
Что это за надпись «Carrier» и откуда она взялась?
Начнем с самого главного. Для iPhone или iPad существует так называемый файл настроек сотовой сети оператора (конфигурации интернета, ммс, различные профили и т.д). В большинстве случаев он «прилетает» на устройство автоматически и владелец просто не замечает этого.
Так вот, если напротив слова оператор (Меню — Настройки — Об устройстве) вашего iPhone или iPad написано слово «Carrier», то это значит что эти самые настройки сети не загружены в устройство.
А iPhone (iPad) просто подставляет настройки сотовой сети из своей памяти, которые, как он считает, наиболее похожие на те, которые используются Вашим оператором. Так как операторов много, то и цифры после «Carrier» могут быть абсолютно разными.
С чем это связано? Вариантов много:
- Старая сим.
- Оператор не согласовал с Apple настройки (так было в свое время с появлением LTE в РФ).
- Какой-либо сбой при синхронизации.
А почему же тогда все работает? На самом деле не обязательно все, просто можно чего-то не замечать, ведь для многих звонки совершает и то хорошо.
Чем грозит «Carrier» и как с этим бороться?
Собственно проблемы могут быть с любым из действий, связанных с сотовой связью. Интернет, звонки, смс и т.д. Большинство пользователей сталкиваются с затруднением в раздаче интернета через Wi-Fi с помощью iPad или iPhone, так называемый «режим модема». Без правильных настроек от оператора он просто не работает.
Что можно сделать для исправления?
Для начала поменять сим-карту — это всегда полезно. В случае, если менять не хочется или просто нет возможности, то стоит поступить вот так:
- Загрузить и запустить iTunes. Если давно не пользовались программой, обновите ее. Далее подключаем iPhone.
- Все. Если ПК подключен к интернету, то программа сама предложит обновить настройки оператора.
