Two Pixels returned to Google for warranty service were used to hijack accounts, stealing ‘nudes’ and money
One anonymous report on Reddit and another from game designer and NYT-bestselling author Jane McGonigal in the last week
Over the week, two Pixel owners have publicly reported that devices sent back to Google for warranty service and replacement were used to violate their privacy. In one instance, someone allegedly took «nudes» from the device and posted them on a customer’s social media account before stealing a small sum via PayPal. Game designer and New York Times bestselling author Jane McGonigal also later tweeted out her own report detailing someone’s attempts to secure similar information from her account, trawling her Gmail, Google Drive, and other data backup sources after she sent her phone to Google for repair.
New Google Pixel Watch renders show off the smartwatch of your dreams
A circular display without any bezel
Google’s Pixel smartphones may not be a commercial success, but they help set a benchmark that other Android manufacturers should follow with their devices. While the big G also develops Wear OS, it has yet to launch a Pixel-branded wearable so far. A recent report revealed that this could change next year, as the company is working on «Rohan» — a first-party smartwatch running Wear OS 3. A new leak is giving the world its first look at the «Pixel Watch» by sharing some early marketing images.
Weekend poll: Would you buy a dedicated Android gaming handheld?
Gaming on the go, no phone required
Although we’re slowly making our way to the end of another long year, the biggest story in tech this week looked ahead to the far-flung future of 2022. As Qualcomm announced its lineup of processors and other products set to power all of next year’s upcoming flagships, one area of focus, in particular, caught our eye: gaming. The company is taking mobile games more seriously than ever before, and it all starts with a new chipset and a partnership with Razer.

OnePlus 6 and 6T owners receiving the gift of a new update this holiday season
Not bad for phones from 2018
It’s hard to imagine, but it’s been more than three years since the OnePlus 6 and 6T hit the market. A couple of generations before the company dove headfirst into flagship pricing, both phones represented some of the best value Android devices that year. Although neither phone is receiving attention as often as it once did, OnePlus has made a new software version available on the heels of its Android 11 update earlier this year.

Looks like your relatives are going to ruin Google TV recommendations for you this holiday season, after all
Multi-user profiles are likely delayed into 2022
Not everyone who lives together has the same taste in entertainment, which is why apps like Netflix and HBO Max offer individual user profiles for each account. Google TV was set to add profiles in November, but if you’re rocking a Chromecast, you’ve probably noticed they aren’t live just yet. Unfortunately, if you’ve been expecting to take advantage of separate accounts ahead of the holiday season, you shouldn’t expect them any time soon.

JerryRigEverything puts the Fairphone 4 through the wringer
We won’t do it to our phones, but you do you
Fairphone has an enviable reputation in the smartphone industry as one of most sustainable OEMs out there (The Fairphone 2 launched in 2015 with Android 5 and is still receiving updates). Its phones are designed to be dismantled and repaired by the end user, prolonging the useful life as long as possible. Its latest model, the Fairphone 4, has struck a remarkable balance between quality and modularity. But how does it hold up to abuse?

Here’s the fix if you can’t play Rocket League Sideswipe on the Pixel 6
Don’t worry, it’s an easy solution
Read update
Earlier in the month, we learned that Psyonix was planning to release its mobile sidescrolling interpretation of Rocket League on mobile across the globe. This rollout started with a few territories and has finally expanded to the US and EU, completing the worldwide launch for Rocket League Sideswipe. Amazingly, the game is great. I went hands-on with the title back in March when it was still in testing and came away pretty impressed, and I’m a diehard Rocket League player that plays on PC every night, so I’m not easily swayed. Not only does the core gameplay of hitting giant soccer balls into goals with cars hold up in its sidescrolling form, there’s no monetization yet, which means the only way to earn in-game cosmetics is by playing the game. No matter how you slice it, Psyonix has hit this one out of the park.
