android studio vs eclipse

lets take a look,

Android Studio — new kid on the block, official ide for developing android apps, receives all the latest and most advanced updates,
i think android studio is a better fit for beginners

Eclipse — tends to have more experienced users, lots of users still prefer it over android studio because of familiarity, all users of eclipse are actually being encouraged to switch to AS.

in my opinion it would probably be best to go with Android Studio. That way you learn one system one time and cut out a lot of future headaches.

Working with eclipse can be difficult at times, probably when debugging and designing layouts Eclipse sometimes get stuck and we have to restart eclipse from time to time. Also you get problems with emulators.

Android studio was releases very recently and this IDE is not yet heavily used by developers. Therefor it may contain certain bugs.
The use of IDE is your personal preference. But personally if I had to choose, Eclipse is a widely known, trusted and certainly offers more features then Android Studio. Android Studio is a little new right now. May be it’s upcoming versions keep up to Eclipse level soon.

Which platform is best for developing android apps, android studio or eclipse.

As per my opinion Android studio is better IDE than Eclipse

There are some comparison features given for Android studio than Eclipse

I would suggest to choose Android studio rather than Eclipse

1. Based on the user interface you should choose the Android studio for the development of Android and it is the official IDE for Android developers easy to manage and compatible with all devices.

2. Google supports Android studio officially not Eclipse

3. Android studio has better build system while Eclipse uses the old one

4. Android studio manages most of the dependencies by implementing Gradle files.

5. Eclipse is easier to learn than Android Studio

6. Android Studio supports NDK that is not good to use

Some comparison features for Android Studio and Eclipse are given below:

1. It has better build process with inbuilt Gradle build support

2. VCS control is very easy to use

3. We can run applications instantly just after the code change in Android Studio

4. It has the option for integrating inbuilt fire base

5. It has excellent XML viewer and many more features are added there, these features will help to improve accuracy and productivity for any organization.

6. Android studio is using Gradle-based build system as eclipse is using ANT based build system

Nowadays people are using Gradle build system for development in third party system libraries, it is better to use the Android Studio for developing Android applications.

Android App Developers has included many features for an Android studio if you have already code for the projects in eclipse with ADT you can migrate those code to Android Studio.

Android studio is a simple way to start and manage the development process for beginners.

If Android studio is in beta, we can use it as a stable tool to continue the development process.

Eclipse ADT plugin support will be not allowed once Android Studio is out of beta, so it is better to continue Gradle for the development of Android Applications .

Are there any alternatives besides Eclipse? I haven’t really found any other IDE’s that support android development quite like eclipse.

Begin your android apps development.

Hey friends, here is a comprehensive tutorial on beginning your first official android application development.
Before we start getting our hands filled with codes, let us get ourselves with some fundamental information about android dev. So I want you guys to get the following tools/softwares ready as we kick off;
✓ Java JDK: Lays the foundation for the Android SDK.
Android SDK: Provides access to Android libraries and allows you to
develop for Android.
Eclipse IDE (integrated development environment): Brings together
Java, the Android SDK, and the Android ADT (Android Development
Tools), and provides tools for you to write your Android programs.
✓ Android ADT: Does a lot of the grunt work for you, such as creating the
files and structure required for an Android app.

I’ve no problem with android studio except the fact that it is damn slow. I’m sure that it will improve in the future.

Eclipse is a very familiar tool. It feels like home when I use eclipse and a lot faster.

I personally believe one should always use the one which is best and up-to-date. Saying that, Android Studio fits in best as this is the latest development platform with loaded features and easy to use.

The only factor that it takes time and effort for the developers to learn new things. For, developers who starts fresh doesn’t make much difference to them as they need to learn either one of the platform and they can start with Android Studio. If one learns Eclipse first, they eventually need to learn Android Studio and upgrade themselves at some point.

Moreover, there are additional features on any new releases than the older version. Similarly, we see some of the well known features that are available on Android Studio and not present in Eclipse, mentioned here:

1. Maven-based build dependencies
2. Build variants and multiple-APK generation (great for Android Wear).
3. Advanced Android code completion and refactoring.

Finally, new and advanced features in these new released platforms helps developers to produce apps faster.
