Are there any alternatives besides Eclipse? I haven’t really found any other IDE’s that support android development quite like eclipse.

Begin your android apps development.
Hey friends, here is a comprehensive tutorial on beginning your first official android application development.
Before we start getting our hands filled with codes, let us get ourselves with some fundamental information about android dev. So I want you guys to get the following tools/softwares ready as we kick off;
✓ Java JDK: Lays the foundation for the Android SDK.
✓ Android SDK: Provides access to Android libraries and allows you to
develop for Android.
✓ Eclipse IDE (integrated development environment): Brings together
Java, the Android SDK, and the Android ADT (Android Development
Tools), and provides tools for you to write your Android programs.
✓ Android ADT: Does a lot of the grunt work for you, such as creating the
files and structure required for an Android app.

I’ve no problem with android studio except the fact that it is damn slow. I’m sure that it will improve in the future.
Eclipse is a very familiar tool. It feels like home when I use eclipse and a lot faster.

I personally believe one should always use the one which is best and up-to-date. Saying that, Android Studio fits in best as this is the latest development platform with loaded features and easy to use.
The only factor that it takes time and effort for the developers to learn new things. For, developers who starts fresh doesn’t make much difference to them as they need to learn either one of the platform and they can start with Android Studio. If one learns Eclipse first, they eventually need to learn Android Studio and upgrade themselves at some point.
Moreover, there are additional features on any new releases than the older version. Similarly, we see some of the well known features that are available on Android Studio and not present in Eclipse, mentioned here:
1. Maven-based build dependencies
2. Build variants and multiple-APK generation (great for Android Wear).
3. Advanced Android code completion and refactoring.
Finally, new and advanced features in these new released platforms helps developers to produce apps faster.

Prior to promote Android app, you should form a general promotion strategy. It means that all steps you made for making your app popular need to be through before the app launch. You can go for two ways:
1) Focus on free promotional tactics first;
2) Use free methods of advertising to get desired traffic faster.
Essential free promotion activities are:
- App Store Optimization (ASO) for ensuring a high rank of your app in the app stores. Use services as SensorTower, ASOdesk, etc which help to create the title and description with relevant keywords.
- Make the app more attractive for potential users. Prepare informing screenshots and make an eye-catching logo for draw attention of a large number of people.
- Pitch bloggers and journalist who are specialised on writing app reviews. You can also try to write press release and reach journalists who will be interested in your app and promote it among their readers. In order to make this process more effective I advise you to read a book “Pitch Perfect: The Art of Promoting Your App on the Web”. It is written by journalists Steve Sande and Erica Sadun who have worked on mobile app reviews for many years.
- Use Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other popular social media in your region. Make pages dedicated to your app and join groups for posting information about the app, sharing links to it in App Store.
When you performed steps mentioned above, you are ready to start a paid promotional campaign. The most common method to get traffic quickly is through paid CPI advertising (you will pay only for real users who have downloaded your app) and acquire non-incentivized mobile traffic (real users who have made own decision to download the app based on the topic of that app or they have just liked the ad banner or a video).
I work with Clickky. Its launched self-serve platforms for user acquisition and mobile monetization are tailored to the needs of app developers, agencies and networks.
Working with Clickky, you’ll be able to:

Increase SEO of app..
In app details, enter large no. of keywords related with the app. Also, enter name of other similar popular apps as keyword.
It’ll not just increase visibility in built-in search results, but also on external search engines and curators!

Few words about google play app pronotion
Empirically, I determined that a new application has to be seen through search Google play. Search is all that we have without money for a marketing campaign.
Therefore, application should be optimized in the following order:
- Application name in google play. This name may be different from the name displayed on the desktop device. The application name contains 30 characters, they should contain the main application keywords.
- Description of the application must be clear and also contain keywords.
- Attractive icons are very important.
- The application must be beautiful and functional. No need to buy a device for $ 300-500 and install an ugly app. People want a beautiful application.
- Publication of forums mentioned above.

Well if you don’t mind paying for installations try appbrain. It features an option to pay per installation, for a small number of installations you can go as low as 0,20 per installation. They only allow to promote free apps though, and if your income is from ads you will probably not get your money back.
Other options are going to forums and telling the users about your app. Or contact review blogs. Appeggs usally posts good apps, or try app of the day blogs. But make sure your app is ready for the big public or else you might just end up getting bad reviews,

I wanted to add that the guide that i’ve been using (a small one) and that lead our team to initially post a thread here on XDA is: http://karim-ouda.blogspot.kr/2012/05/android-app-marketing-dumping-my.html
Interestingly enough, the author of that guide has posted here as well!

So keywords actually do stuff then? I only tried it in one app, I didn’t tell anyone I built or released the app. Not even one or two people and admittedly it has had 200 downloads.
I thought it didn’t really do anything. Think I have to add keywords to all my apps descs now.

First of all, I want to say that I have no experience in promoting Android apps. But I did some work in promoting websites for businesses, and I can suggest some things.
Key is a having a functional app. If users download an app which is half done and has disabled functions because they aren’t done yet, they are going to uninstall it. Second suggestion, a great design is makes a difference for a lot of people whether they’re going to install it or not.
When you have both those things, you can get on with actually promoting the app. I would search for an SEO copywriter to get the description for your app. SEO copywriters are specialized in optimizing texts for Google. And I would look into advertising on Facebook. I think you can actually promote your apps, and advertise only on phones. This way your advertisement will only be showed to people who are using Facebook on their phone. User will probably more tempted to install the app.
