How To Find your Phone Number in Android and iOS(iPhone)
Have you ever been asked for your number and couldn’t remember it? Need to add your contact details to a form and couldn’t remember your phone number? Have you added yourself as a contact on your phone so you can find out your own phone number?
There’s nothing more embarrassing than being asked for your phone number by someone only to forget it. Especially if you use your phone for business, it can look incredibly unprofessional to stumble over your phone number. And for many of us with two phones, it certainly isn’t easy to remember a work number.
It is possible to quickly pull up your phone number in your phone on both iOS and Android. We’ll walk you through the steps and give you some more tips below!
How to Find Your Phone Number in iOS
If you’re an iPhone user, you’re likely to be used to your device’s simple layout and functionality. Fortunately, Apple has also made it incredibly simple to find your phone number.
If you open the Phone app, you can click on ‘Contacts‘ at the bottom of the screen. Then, tap on ‘My Card‘ to view your phone number. But, in some cases, only your address and username appears. So, if that’s the case for you, there’s another foolproof way to find your phone number.
Open the Settings app on your phone and scroll down to ‘Phone.’ Tap on it.
Next, scroll down a bit more until your phone number appears.
Now, let’s go a bit further and add your phone number to your contacts card if it isn’t readily available.
Here’s how to add your phone number to your Contact Card on an iPhone:
Open the calling app on your phone and tap ‘Contacts’ at the bottom. Then tap on ‘My Card.’
Next, tap the ‘Edit’ option in the upper right-hand corner.
Enter your phone number and tap ‘Done’ in the upper right-hand corner.
Now, when you need to find your phone number, it’ll be listed right in your phone’s contacts.
What To Do If the Wrong Number Appears
If your phone number appears but it’s incorrect, there could be a number of reasons for this, and therefore a number of solutions. This can be incredibly simple or more complicated, depending on what’s causing the error.
First, if you recently changed your phone number, phone, or cell phone carrier, the likely cause is an error on the phone company’s part. If you changed your phone number, it will take some time to update on your phone (no more than one day usually). All you need to do is power cycle your phone and your new phone number should appear.
If you switched carriers, your phone number goes through a porting process that can take one to two days to complete. If you see a phone number that you don’t recognize, this is probably why.
If your number is wrong, but you’ve made no changes to your account, contact your cell phone carrier. You may need a new SIM card, or there could be an issue with your account.
Finally, many users who have noticed an issue with their phone number have fixed it by following the ‘Settings’>’Messages’>’iMessages’ and turn off iMessage, then turn it back on. This should refresh your phone and update your phone number.
How to Find Your Phone Number in Android
Finding your phone number on Android 10 is just as simple as iOS. But, if you’re using an older version of Android, there are additional steps you need to take.
- Open your phone and select Contacts.
- Select Me from the top of the list to see your number.
If you don’t see Me in your contacts, you may need to dig a little deeper.
- Settings and About Phone or About Device.
- Select Status or Phone Number or Identity.
- Settings and About Phone or About Device.
- Select Status and SIM Status and then My Phone Number.
Your last option to find your phone number in Android is to phone a friend. As long as they won’t laugh at you too much, you can phone them and record your number somewhere or add it as per the instructions below.
Add Your Phone Number – Android
You can easily add your phone number to your contacts by tapping the ‘Edit’ button in your calling app, as shown above. But, what can you do if your phone number isn’t showing up at all?
Some users have stated that their phone number says ‘Unknown’ in the Settings on their phone. If this is happening to you, there are a few fixes.
First, try turning your phone off and back on again. If this doesn’t work, go to your phone’s Settings and follow the ‘Connections’>’More Connections’>’Reset Network Settings’ path. Your phone will turn off and back on, then the number should appear.
If this doesn’t work, contact your carrier. You likely need a new SIM card.
Frequently Asked Questions
We’ve included this section to answer more of your questions about iPhone and Android contacts.
Why is my own phone number calling me?
One of the more odd aspects of cell phones these days is that your own phone number can call you. While this may seem like a glitch, it’s actually something more sinister. The reason your phone number is calling you is because of scammers.
While there are many methods they use to call you, this is another one of them. Unfortunately, there isn’t a lot you can do aside from ignoring the call. It is recommended that you do not answer a phone call from your own phone number.
Can I change my phone number?
Yes. You need to contact your cell phone provider and request a phone number change. If someone is harassing you, you moved to a new area, or you’re just ready for a change, having your number changed is relatively simple. Just keep in mind that some carriers charge a fee for this change. Also, save any voicemails you want to keep because changing your phone number will create a new voicemail box.

How to find your own phone number on iOS or Android
Gone are the days when phone numbers were as commonly memorized as street addresses. While you once had your own phone number, your best friend’s, your crush’s, and the one for the local pizza shop all at the top of mind, the advent of smartphones has rendered this memory exercise moot. Like most people, you probably don’t call your own phone number very often — and if you do, it’s likely listed in your Favorites — so you may not know it off the top of your head.
With that reality comes the familiar grip of panic when a new acquaintance asks for your mobile phone number and you have no clue. Or maybe you’re so used to sharing your second phone number that you forgot the first!
Don’t worry, you’re not alone. Regardless of whether you’re using an iOS or Android device, you can quickly locate your own number (among other details like your IMEI number) on your phone if you know where to look. We’ll show you how to do it.
How to find your phone number in iOS
Looking up your phone number on an iOS device is easy and convenient because most iOS users are running the same version. There are two ways you can easily locate your phone number: The Contacts app or in the settings.
- Contacts: Open the Phone app, tap Contacts, and your number will be the first listed.
- Settings: Go to Settings > Phone and My Number will be the first field on the list. You can of course change, or edit, this if you wish by tapping on the number.
How to find your phone number in Android
Do not be surprised to discover some variations in the steps you need to take for finding your own mobile number on an Android device. That’s because Android users may be running different versions of the operating system and because of variations in how the operating system is implemented across device brands. So there are bound to be different interfaces depending on which device you use and which version of the OS you run. Generally, however, all roads begin from the settings.
The example below is on an LG V40 ThinQ running Android 10, but the process remains the same in Android 11 and Android 12.
- Go to settings and search for My phone number in the search bar.
- The result will give you the path: System > About phone > Status.
- Alternately, launch the Contacts app and you’ll see your own contact info right at the top.
The screenshots below show an older Samsung Galaxy S6 that runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
If you’re running stock Android, or something very close — for example, the Google Pixel or Nexus, or the Lenovo Moto G, X, or Z smartphones — pull up the Contacts app. You’ll see an entry titled My Info or Me ; your phone number is listed in that contact information at the top of the list.
For every Android phone, regardless of manufacturer, you’ll be able to find your phone number if you go to Settings > About Phone or About Device > Status > My phone number . Some Android phones will have SIM or SIM card status listed within Status . If this is the case with your phone, then your number will be listed there. If you don’t want to go through these many different menus, you can pull up the search bar and type in My Phone Number to directly pull up the relevant information.
It’s not hard to find your phone number once you know how to look for it, so you can help others find their numbers with just a few steps.
Getting a call from your own number?
Now that you’ve found or memorized your phone number, it might come as a shock to see if pop-up on your screen as an incoming call. The FTC has warned that some robocallers and scammers have taken number spoofing to the next level and will use your own number in hopes you answer. They have also taken to this method to get around number block, because after all, who blocks their own number? If you see an incoming call with your number on it, no it’s not you from an alternate timeline, it’s a scam so don’t pick up.
