Эй, Google, куда делся Android One?

Вы ещё помните про Android One? Это собственная инициатива Google по распространению недорогих смартфонов с чистым Android и своевременной доставке обновлений. Благодаря тому что их программная основа не подвержена изменениям всевозможных оболочек, производителям не приходится тратить время на адаптацию ни ежемесячных патчей безопасности, ни новых версий ОС. То есть фактически большая часть усилий по поддержке смартфонов с Android One лежит на Google, и поначалу это дало им неплохой буст популярности. Но потом всё пошло по наклонной.

Популярность смартфонов на базе Android One было легко объяснить. Google брала на себя и разработку, и оптимизацию обновлений, и как таковую доставку. Благодаря этому такие аппараты получали апдейты практически наравне с «пикселями».

На таких условиях с Google заключили договора многие компании – от Nokia до Motorola. Ведь всем хотелось начать выпускать смартфоны, которые концептуально не отличаются от Google Pixel, но при этом не прикладывать больших усилий по поддержанию их актуальности.

Зачем нужен Android One

Android One лёг в основу многих смартфонов, дав им уст популярности

Цель Google состояла в том, чтобы обеспечить смартфонам на базе Android One единообразие пользовательского опыта и безопасности. Первое время так и было, пока Google было интересно этим заниматься. Но продолжалось это не очень долго. Самый пик пришёлся на 2017-2018 годы, когда к программе подключилась Xiaomi.

За этот период она успела выпустить Xiaomi Mi A1 и Mi A2 – два смартфона, которые многие всерьёз сравнивали с «пикселями». Однако через год всё изменилось. Google перестала уделять внимание Android One, из-за чего многие пользователи столкнулись с серьёзнейшими проблемами.

• Во-первых, сначала отсутствие интереса Google к проекту Android One проявилось в задержках с выходом свежих обновлений.
• Во-вторых, Google перестала торопиться с адаптацией новых версий Android, которые раньше приходили сразу после «пикселей».
• В-третьих, те обновления, что всё-таки доходили до пользователей, нередко оказывались очень проблемными (вспомните Xiaomi Mi A3).

Звучит не очень страшно, согласен. В конце концов, многие смартфоны либо не получают обновления вообще, либо получают их с большой задержкой и невпопад. Однако по факту это очень сильно подорвало бизнес некоторых компаний. Например, Nokia. Поначалу её смартфоны, работавшие на Android One, разлетались как горячие пирожки.

Пользователям нравились доступные цены, стабильная и своевременная поддержка и лёгкость чистой операционной системы. Но потом Google начала активнее развивать Pixel Launcher, у неё появилась инициатива Pixel Feature Drop, и она окончательно решила, что качественная и стабильная поддержка должна быть преимуществом только её смартфонов. А смартфоны Nokia стали вообще никому не нужны.

Что мы имеем на выходе? Отказ Google от адекватного развития Android One привело к тому, что многие пользователи остались без обновлений и вообще какой-никакой поддержки. Просто производители, надеясь на Google, понавыпускали аппаратов разных мастей, а теперь оказались банально не готовы поддерживать их самостоятельно.

Ведь на это нужно закладывать и деньги, и серьёзные человеческие ресурсы. А ничего такого в их первоначальные планы не входило. Так что Google как всегда подставила целую отрасль, только непонятно ради чего. В конце концов, и её собственные смартфоны не пользуются особенной популярностью. Так не лучше ли было бы продолжать вкладываться в Android One?
