Android Pees on Apple in Google Maps

Take a look soon; Google said it is working to have the image removed.

Google Maps has its share of rad Easter Eggs, like the playable Pac-Man game that appeared earlier this month.

But a new image, hidden among the streets of Rawalpindi, Pakistan, seems a bit out of character for the global tech giant.

Zoom into these coordinates, and you’ll find an Android robot relieving himself on an Apple logo—in the vein of those Peeing Calvin decals displayed by many a truck driver.

Google said the image is likely an inappropriate use of its Map Maker tool.

«The vast majority of users who edit our maps provide great contributions, such as mapping places that have never been mapped before, or adding new business openings or address changes,» Google said. «We’re sorry for this inappropriate user-created content; we’re working to remove it quickly. We also learn from these issues, and we’re constantly improving how we detect, prevent and handle bad edits.»

First spotted by Hacker News, the Android image perhaps inspired another edit—»Google Review Policy is crap» with a frowny face, overlaid onto the map in a nearby area of Pakistan (which can be seen only when zoomed in).

The move comes a week after Google Maps tipped Edward Snowden’s latest hiding place: right inside the White House. A long-standing loophole allowed a user to alter a verified Google business description, turning it into Edward’s Snow Den—a snowboard shop located feet from the West Wing.

Yep, that’s the Android mascot peeing on Apple in Google Maps

Sometimes even Android need to release some fluid, and Google’s iconic green man is doing just that in a hilarious Google Maps easter egg—all over an apple. Awkward.

Team Android discovered the image near the town of Rawalpindi, Pakistan. See it for yourself here. Update 1: Tom H on Twitter points out that this image can be found very near the lubricating Android. Burn returned!

Whether it’s the work of someone at Google or a merry prankster abusing tools like Map Maker is unknown, but smart money’s on the latter. While this easter egg’s sure to be a hit with Android aficionados, I’d be shocked if it stays up now that it’s in the public eye and thrust into Google’s face, so be sure to check it out sooner rather than later if you’re interested.

Update 2: Aaaaaaand it’s gone. “We’re sorry for this inappropriate user-created content; we’re working to remove it quickly,” Google’s Mara Harris told the Washington Post. “We also learn from these issues, and we’re constantly improving how we detect, prevent and handle bad edits.”

Bootanimation- Android Andy pees on Apple- My favorite

Here is a resized version of the android pee on Apple bootanimation that I found on the Rom toolbox but for some reason wouldn’t display on my note 2 even if I resized within the application.To me it’s much better lookin than the fat tinkle peeling droid that I found here and its resized correctly. Credit goes to the original animation author which I have no clue whom that may be.

are u rooted? if yes. then do these steps verbatim to change your boot animation on your note 2.

STEP 1: download THIS file and do NOT extract it or anything (use your computer or phone. its like 100mb so i reckon you best be on WiFey to be safer from a broken dload)

STEP 2:
if using your computer to download , plug ur phone in to mount usb and moved the file to your sd card or your internal memory [ EX:Computer\SPH-L900\Phone or Computer\SPH-L900\Card ] (OR use a program like Android Commander to make things a little easier and put the file directly into the /system/media directory of your phone. hint:the ‘system’ folder is located in the PARENT FOLDER of your SDCARD directory . aka your ROOT directory)

if downloaded using your phone browser. just use any root file manager (eg:I use ROM Toolbox Pro’s Root file Browser,but there are dozens of other app like root explorer, ES File Explorer File Manager, ASTRO file Manager i think works too if u have the pro version but dont hold me to it) and use the Move to or the Copy To feature within any of those apps to move the file manually to your /system/media/ directory. You can just overwrite the one that is already there or just add a .bak or .EAD or .GTH to the end of the file name of the file you wanna backup thats already there BEFORE moving the new Android Peeing animation you downloaded in the first step.

IMPORTANT- DO NOT RENAME OR EXTRACT THE ZIP FILE YOU DOWNLOADED IN STEP 1. the file MUST BE NAMED bootanimation.zip

STEP 3- Using your root file managing joint appy proggy thingys Permissions editor (normally u just long click the file you wanna set permissions for and the edit permissions option will pop up somewhere) set the pemissions (or verify them) to this.
OWNER- READ WRITE
GROUP- READ
OTHERS- READ
or another way of saying this is RW-R—R—

Step 4 — SAVE or ACCEPT changes.
Step 5 — Reboot to make sure bootanimation is changed
Step 6 — Reboot again in a busy elevator or place where some iPhags can see over your shoulder. and grin maliciously. :angel:

We know who put an Android peeing on an Apple in Google Maps

It’s not every day you open Google Maps to see a massive Android mascot peeing on the Apple logo, but that’s precisely what happened to Maps users this morning who happened to be browsing around DHA Phase 4 in Pakistan. A Google Map Maker user named Nitricboy placed a giant Android in the area, defacing an Apple logo.

Updated on 04-24-2015 by Malarie Gokey: Added news that the person who made the Android has been found, and Google plans to remove his “artwork.”

He used the custom map-enhancing tool called Google Map Maker, which lets users submit changes to maps in their area on the public version of Google Maps. Nitricboy added one part of the drawing at a time, so as to not arouse suspicion, and the end result was the large Android peeing on an Apple logo. Although moderators have to approve ideas that are submitted with the tool, it seems that the moderator on duty that day either had a good sense of humor or was phenomenally lazy. He also may not have noticed the pattern, since the drawing came to his desk in segments.

And so the Android stands in Pakistan, peeing on an Apple logo with perfect aim. He even looks like he might be having a good chuckle while doing it. It’s hardly the first time we’ve caught Android in the act of raining on Apple’s parade, but it’s especially funny that the Android’s act of defiance was first spotted on the same day as the Apple Watch launch. Coincidence? I think not.

Google has yet to take down the piece of local folk art. The coordinates are 33°30’52.5″N 73°03’33.2″E, and it “stands” about 2,500 feet tall (nearly half a mile) and 2,500 feet wide, making it about 6.25 million square feet large. You could fit almost 109 American football fields in that amount of space. And for one more reference, the new 2014 Godzilla is only about 500 feet tall.

We don’t know how long the cheeky Android will be there, so you’d best check it out soon. We’ve already taken a screenshot for posterity’s sake. Google told the Next Web that it’s working to take the addition down.

A Google spokesperson said that its “sorry for this inappropriate user-created content,” adding that “the vast majority of users who edit our maps provide great contributions.”

However, enterprising Maps users often pull of stunts like this, adding clever additions to Google Maps when nobody’s watching. Not too long ago, NSA leaker Edward Snowden got his very own space at the White House, in the “Snow Den.” That particular addition was swiftly removed by Google, probably at some sort of official request. So far, the audacious Android has lasted much longer in Pakistan.
