Angry Orchard Prices & Buyers’ Guide
In This Price Guide
Angry Orchard is a bottled hard cider originally made in New York State from cider apples. Angry Orchard is currently owned by Boston Beer Company, who also own Sam Adams Beer, Truly Hard Seltzer, and Dogfishhead Beer. At its peak, Angry Orchard represented 50% of the sales in the American hard cider market.
Angry Orchard Products
Angry Orchard has released several different varieties of cider over the years, and while some have been seasonal limited releases or discontinued, these are their current offerings. The following are available in six-packs or in an orchard explorer mixed twelve or twenty-four packs.
Crisp Apple is an Angry Orchard classic cider, made from cider apples and culinary apples. It is slightly sweet, gluten-free, and bottled at 5% ABV.
A cider derived from a blend of apples and pears, this bottle captures the smooth sweetness of pears while retaining the crisp tart apple flavor that made Angry Orchard famous. Bottled at 5% ABV and gluten-free.
Angry Orchard Rosé is made using red flesh apples from France, which imbue this bottle with its pinkish hue. Bottled at 5.5% ABV and gluten-free.
A tart, green apple cider with notes of kiwi and honeydew to boot. Bottled at 5% ABV and gluten-free.
The following ciders are not available in the Angry Orchard variety packs, only in individual four and six-packs.
- Angry Orchard Crisp Unfiltered
An unfiltered version of the regular crisp apple, this bottle is hazy, with some sediment due to it being unfiltered. The unfiltered bottle is made using bittersweet apples, and as such is less sweet than its filtered counterpart. Bottled at 6% ABV and also gluten-free.
The driest of the Angry Orchard line, this cider is based on traditional English ciders, which are usually less sweet than their American counterparts. Bottled at 5.5% ABV and gluten-free.
In addition to their usual lineup of ciders, Angry Orchard also manufactures the following small batch ciders.
A sparkling cider, available in a corked 750 ml bottle. Sweet, with notes of vanilla and cloves, this cider was aged in French oak casks before bottling. Bottled at 7.7% ABV and Gluten-free.
This bottle is made using a freezing process, similar to that of ice wine, which freezes the apples before extracting the juice. Look for notes of toffee, vanilla, and caramel due to the oak cask aging. Bottled in a corked 750 ml bottle at 10% ABV and gluten-free.
This bottle is another 750 ml cork stopper, with a blend of oak-aged bittersweet and culinary apple ciders which results in a wine-esq cider with a fuller body than other ciders. Bottled at 10% ABV and gluten free.
Walden Hollow is an annual cider which varies year to year. Angry Orchard selects its choicest apple varieties and blends the ciders, resulting in a different edition each year.

Angry Orchard Alternatives
If you’re in the northeast, specifically the Vermont area, I recommend citizen ciders as an alternative to Angry Orchard. They’re making a great cider using local apples, and are available as far away as New York City. This is one of my favorite regional producers, but make sure to investigate your local area and see what’s being whipped up in your own backyard.
Speaking of regional favorites, this hard cider out of Austin, TX is another great regional product well worth tracking down if you’re in the area. Their small-batch ciders are delicious, and their lineup features an array of exotic flavors like blood orange or pineapple.
The old standard, Strongbow has been in the cider game since the 1960s and accounts for 15% of global cider sales. Made in the UK, this is an English style of cider, meaning it is drier than Americans may be used to.
A Swedish cider, with a number of untraditional flavors. Rekorderlig is delicious, a bit pricier than other cider options, but well worth the cost. Look for strawberry lime in the summertime, and enjoy it with a squirt of fresh lime juice. This is one of my most favorite brands of cider.
Cocktails
While most ciders are enjoyed as is, they can be used as ingredients in a cocktail from time to time. Here are a few simple ones.
The Industry Fix
- 1 oz Green Chartreuse
- .5 oz Fernet Branca
- .5 Lemon Juice
Top with Angry Orchard Stone Dry or another dry cider
The Stone Fence
- 1.5 oz Rum, Bourbon, or Rye
- 2 dashes angostura bitters
- Top with Angry Orchard Crisp Unfiltered
This cocktail is classically made with a traditional non-alcoholic apple cider or pressed apple juice, but can be made with hard cider as well.

Angry Orchard Cider Company
Angry Orchard Cider Company – Our 60 acre orchard in Walden, NY is nestled in the heart of the Hudson Valley. Hudson Valley is known as the Apple Belt of New York, which is the second largest apple producing state in the country. Apples, like wine grapes, take character from the local soil and climate and the Hudson Valley offers some of the best conditions in the country for growing apples: great soil, reasonable winters, wet springs, and humid summers.
The Hudson Valley also has a long cider making tradition. Before prohibition, cider apple orchards were common to find in the region. Cider has been made here for more than 200 years!
Like many of the orchards in the area, our orchard has a long history. It has been a farm since the 1700s and the first apple trees were planted here around 100 years ago. The Crist Family took ownership of this orchard in 1963 and as leaders in the apple growing industry, grew both culinary and cider apples.
We are committed to bringing traditional cider varieties and lost heirloom varieties back to the United States. As such, certain areas of the orchard are designated for new cider apple plantings and varietal research, in collaboration with local institutions and growers.
