Apple Application Support not found error 2

I have a problem with my phone. While i was updating my phone through itunes my laptop shutdown, and after i restarted the computer my phone was stuck with the itunes logo and charger cord. From then, I’ve called apple for help and support, but anythign they asked me to do or try, i have already tried and it was all a failure. so now ive started to explore google and see if anyone has had the same problems as i have, I’ve tried many things but nothing has worked out for me, so i started to use this site as a source for help and was told, to fix the problem i am having, I must remove all itunes and its components and reinstall it, so i did all that. after i finished installing, itunes could not open because apple aplication support was not found (I was told to remove this from control panel aswell) but the download that was given to me aparantly doesn’t have the apple application support, which without, i cannot run itunes, meaning, now i can’t fix my phone unless i have access to itunes.

The error that comes up is:

Apple application not found.

Apple application support is required to run itunes. Please uninstall itunes, then install itunes again.

error 2 (windows error 2)

When this error came up, i followed what it told me to do and reinstalled itunes, however, the same error came up. so i tried to download apple application support seperately but have had no luck. i could really use some good help, it’s been 3 days since my phone has stopped working and of all the things I’ve been researching, nothing has helped. Help please.

Question: Q: Apple Mobile Device Service fails to start Windows error 2

I have been successfully using iTunes 12.3.3 until I purchased a new iPhone 6s. I started getting errors when attaching my iPhone to iTunes. I followed the instruction for uninstalling iTunes per the support page. During the re-installation everything seems to progress successfully until [Service ‘Apple Mobile Service’ (Apple Mobile Device Service) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start services.] comes up. I have performed the following in attempts to fix the issues.

1. Totally removed all traces of prior iTunes installation from computer. Computer is running Windows 7 SP1 with no issues except this new one.

2. Used WinRAR to open iTunes6464.exe to .msi files.

3. Used the AppleMobileDeviceSupport6464.msi to remove the Apple Mobile Device Support. It was successful.

4. Attempted to manually reload AppleMobileDeviceSupport6464.msi installation was going well until it attempted to start the service and then I continually get

the same error message. If I ignore the error is seems to complete but when I attempt to start iTunes itself I get this error [Application support was not found. Application Support is required to run iTunes. Please uninstall iTunes and reinstall. Windows error 2]

5. I uninstalled iTunes again and attempted to reinstall using the .msi files. Everything said it installed fine to include AppleApplicationSupport.msi until AppleMobileDeviceSupport6464.msi and again once it attempted to start the services I received the same error msg. Again i f I ignore the error is seems to complete but when I attempt to start iTunes itself I get this error [Application support was not found. Application Support is required to run iTunes. Please uninstall iTunes and reinstall. Windows error 2]

Needless to say I am getting very frustrated with this installation. I have a complete offsite backup of all my iTunes media as of the last 24 hours. So that is not an issue.

I will appreciate all assistance in trying to get this fixed so I can use my iPhone which is now locked in an attempt to sync to iTunes.

We’ll try a «standalone» installation of Apple Application Support, Geek. (It may not install, but at least we’ll have a better idea of what the problem is, based on any error messages we might get.)

Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:

Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:

Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select «Extract to iTunesSetup» (or «Extract to iTunes64Setup»). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called «iTunesSetup» (or «iTunes64Setup»).

Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.

Does it install properly for you? If so, does iTunes launch properly now?

If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

These ones are typically caused by underlying problems on the PC that also often cause Windows Updates to fail to install. If we can fix the Windows Update trouble, we can usually get the iTunes/Apple-Application-Support trouble cleaned up +en passant.+

Go into your Windows update and try to check for new updates. Do they fail to install? If so, go into your Update History and doubleclick the failures. What alphanumeric codes appear for you? (For example, «8007000b».)

Here is my situation.

Trying to migrate from old XP system to Windows 7 on a new PC.

Itunes and quicktime were installed on the old pc and may still be installed; I see files to that effect. But I cannot activate Itunes or QT on the old PC.

I have ITunes on the new PC, but I haven’t been able to put any of my music files from the old PC into ITunes folders. I can see them on the new hard drive, but they don’t transfer via Itunes to new ITunes folders.

At some point, I got a message that told me that I already had 5 PCs authorized (I presume, to my Apple or ITunes account. That is surprising as I and my wife have only 4 PC including the new one, and one iPhone. so how could I have 5 PCs authorized already? I guess I have no way to identify the 5 «authorized» PCs.

Anyway, I tried to deauthorize the old PC (to get under the 5 PC limit) but of course, I could not because now, after converting the old XP PC to Windows 7, Itunes isn’t working. When I try to install Itunes on the old PC (now, a Win 7 PC), I get a message that tells me Quicktime didn’t install correctly and and Itunes needs QuickTime. This has become too complicated and obscure for me to sort out. My problem sounds vaguely like some of the problems here, but not exactly the same.

Any ideas or suggested solutions? Thanks in advance.

Question: Q: Error 2 and Apple Application Support Not Found — Windows 8.1 Pro

I was unable to update iTunes when the new update came out, so I uninstalled it and reinstalled it. When re-installing it I received the following error:

An error occurred during the installation of assembly ‘Microsoft.VC80.CRT,type=”win32”,version=”8.0.50727.6195”,publicKeyToken=” fc8b3b9a1e18e3b”,processorArchitecture=”amd64”’. Please refer to Help and Support for more information. HRESULT: 0x80070422.

I click OK and the process continues until I receive the following error:

Service ‘Apple Mobile Device Service’ (Apple Mobile Device Service) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services. “

I ran the program as an Administrator from the start, so I do have sufficient privileges. I am given three options: Abort, Retry, and Ignore. Retry doesn’t work, so I hit ignore. The process then completes and when I try and open the program I receive the following error:

Apple Application Support was not found. Apple Application Support is requires to run iTunesHelper. Please uninstall iTunes, then install iTunes again. Error 2

I have uninstalled and reinstalled numerous times and attempted Apple Application Support by itself by unzipping the setup. When I do that I receive the following error:

An error occurred during the installation of assembly ‘Microsoft.VC80.CRT,type=”win32”,version=”8.0.50727.6195”,publicKeyToken=” 1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b”,processorArchitecture=”amd64”’. Please refer to Help and Support for more information. HRESULT: 0x80070422.

I have no idea what else to try. Please help.

The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.

The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit — for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.

Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

Install Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 edition. That resolves the error.

Jul 3, 2016 8:03 AM

The response from turingtest2 is accurate, but for some people may be incomplete. Maybe this will add to it:

I had the same problem, but was able after TWO DAYS of trying to finally get the newest iTunes installed on my system. It was a nightmare. The short version is you need to install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable and then update it with a security update. Here is my situation:

  1. I have an old laptop, with an intel i5 450M processor and the first-generation Intel HD graphics. So, due to the naming of the «for older video cards» file, I assumed it was a video card problem. It was not.
  2. The normal 64-bit iTunes (version 12.6) would not install. I got the following error every time:
An error occurred during the installation of assembly ‘Microsoft.VC80.CRT.type=»win32″,version=»8.0.50727.6195″.publicKeyToken=»1fc8b 3b9a1e18e3b».processorArchitecture=»amd64″. Please refer to Help and Support for more information. HRESULT:0x80073715
  3. Yes, I could have installed the older 12.5.x «for older video cards» package, which DID install fine—but this was not an option for me because I needed the latest version to be compatible with my iTunes library, which I sync to my desktop. (My desktop uses 12.6 and therefore is not readable by the older version of iTunes.)

After extensive research online, I found a clue on this page:
Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates

Search the page for «Microsoft.VC80.CRT» and you’ll see a helpful paragraph about fixing it. It’s helpful but not quite complete. Here’s what I learned that you need to know:

  1. You HAVE to install the 2005 package. There are later packages out there, such as 2015; don’t be confused. You need 2005. So, I downloaded and installed the Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable 32-bit version:
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=3387
  2. Then downloaded and installed the Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable 64-bit version:
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=21254
  3. I do not know whether you need both of the above. You probably only need the 64-bit one. I did both.
  4. Now that the package is installed, you have to install a security update for it, named the «Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package MFC Security Update»:
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=26347
  5. This provides a confusing choice of three files to download. I downloaded all three, because there are NO INSTRUCTIONS to help. One, the «I64» one, did not work on my laptop because my laptop is AMD rather than Intel. But the other two installed and worked fine. One was for 32-bit and one for 64-bit. Since I installed both versions above, I installed both updates.

Now I installed the full 64-bit, up to date version of iTunes (12.6 as of the time of this writing) and it WORKED.

Let’s try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.

If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

Dec 27, 2013 11:43 AM

I can open iTunes now, but another error message has come up.

«This ipod cannot be used because the required software is not available. Run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes, then install the 64-bit version of iTunes.»

Dec 28, 2013 8:26 AM

That suggests AMDS trouble.

Go back into the iTunes64Setup folder and this time doubleclick the AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi file.

(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose «Remove», and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi again.)

Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you? If so, does that clear up the new error message?

If instead you get an error message during the install (or uninstall), let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)
