We’ll try a «standalone» installation of Apple Application Support, Geek. (It may not install, but at least we’ll have a better idea of what the problem is, based on any error messages we might get.)
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select «Extract to iTunesSetup» (or «Extract to iTunes64Setup»). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called «iTunesSetup» (or «iTunes64Setup»).
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
Does it install properly for you? If so, does iTunes launch properly now?
If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

These ones are typically caused by underlying problems on the PC that also often cause Windows Updates to fail to install. If we can fix the Windows Update trouble, we can usually get the iTunes/Apple-Application-Support trouble cleaned up +en passant.+
Go into your Windows update and try to check for new updates. Do they fail to install? If so, go into your Update History and doubleclick the failures. What alphanumeric codes appear for you? (For example, «8007000b».)

I was able to install i Tunes, but only after I uninstalled my anti-virus program. AVG anti-virus 2011. I couldn’t find away to disable it. I reinstalled AVG after i tested i tunes.
both i tunes and AVG are working.

Here is my situation.
Trying to migrate from old XP system to Windows 7 on a new PC.
Itunes and quicktime were installed on the old pc and may still be installed; I see files to that effect. But I cannot activate Itunes or QT on the old PC.
I have ITunes on the new PC, but I haven’t been able to put any of my music files from the old PC into ITunes folders. I can see them on the new hard drive, but they don’t transfer via Itunes to new ITunes folders.
At some point, I got a message that told me that I already had 5 PCs authorized (I presume, to my Apple or ITunes account. That is surprising as I and my wife have only 4 PC including the new one, and one iPhone. so how could I have 5 PCs authorized already? I guess I have no way to identify the 5 «authorized» PCs.
Anyway, I tried to deauthorize the old PC (to get under the 5 PC limit) but of course, I could not because now, after converting the old XP PC to Windows 7, Itunes isn’t working. When I try to install Itunes on the old PC (now, a Win 7 PC), I get a message that tells me Quicktime didn’t install correctly and and Itunes needs QuickTime. This has become too complicated and obscure for me to sort out. My problem sounds vaguely like some of the problems here, but not exactly the same.
Any ideas or suggested solutions? Thanks in advance.

Let’s try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called «iTunesSetup» (or «iTunes64Setup»).

iTunes «Apple Application Support is required. Error 2» and possible fix.
I know this is a bit late but I came accross this thread trying to resolve this same problem and came up with a solution that worked for me, so thought I would share it here too. I hope it helps someone else.
I just resolved this on Win Vista (should apply equally for Win7 too). Please uninstall iTunes before proceeding though. I’ll walk you through the process I followed, if you like you can jump straight to the Solution section.
The initial error during the installation of iTunes was:
An error occurred during the installation of assembly ‘Microsoft.VC80.CRT,version=»8.0.50727.4053″,type=»win32″,publicKeyToken=’1fc8b 3b9a1e18e3b»,processorarchitecture=»x86″. Please refer to Help and Support for more information. HRESULT:0x8007054F
The error (after installing iTunes) when trying to run iTunes was:
Apple Application Support is required to run iTunes. Please uninstall iTunes, then install iTunes again. Error 2 (Windows error 2).
After trying various fixes around the forums I came across this MSKB article, which relates to the first installation error:
This lead me to trying to install MS Visual C++ but I received the following error trying to install that:
Error 1935.An error occurred during the installation of assembly ‘Microsoft.VC80.ATL,type=”win32”,version=”8.0.50727.762”,publicKeyToken=”1fc8b3 b9a1e18e3b”,processorArchitecture=”amd64”’. Please refer to Help and Support for more information. HRESULT: 0x80070BC9. Assembly interface: IassemblyCacheItem, function: Commit, component:
Note: The installation of VC++ rolls back when it fails.
Through this error I found this MSKB article:
The Automated MS «Fix It» msi package didn’t work.
Note: Please backup your registry first (see the above MSKB article for instructions).
I opened the registry and (as instructed in the MSKB article) deleted the following keys:
- PendingXmlIdentifier
- NextQueueEntryIndex
- AdvancedInstallersNeedResolving
Reboot and reinstall iTunes.
If it helps you please like this so others can find it.

I have a problem with my phone. While i was updating my phone through itunes my laptop shutdown, and after i restarted the computer my phone was stuck with the itunes logo and charger cord. From then, I’ve called apple for help and support, but anythign they asked me to do or try, i have already tried and it was all a failure. so now ive started to explore google and see if anyone has had the same problems as i have, I’ve tried many things but nothing has worked out for me, so i started to use this site as a source for help and was told, to fix the problem i am having, I must remove all itunes and its components and reinstall it, so i did all that. after i finished installing, itunes could not open because apple aplication support was not found (I was told to remove this from control panel aswell) but the download that was given to me aparantly doesn’t have the apple application support, which without, i cannot run itunes, meaning, now i can’t fix my phone unless i have access to itunes.
The error that comes up is:
Apple application not found.
Apple application support is required to run itunes. Please uninstall itunes, then install itunes again.
error 2 (windows error 2)
When this error came up, i followed what it told me to do and reinstalled itunes, however, the same error came up. so i tried to download apple application support seperately but have had no luck. i could really use some good help, it’s been 3 days since my phone has stopped working and of all the things I’ve been researching, nothing has helped. Help please.

I found the solution myself!
1. Download and install WinRAR.
2. Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe icon and choose «Open with WinRAR».
3. Once the EXE is opened in WinRAR, double-click AppleApplicationSupport.msi and when the installer window is open choose «Repair».
4. Done! You can now run iTunes normally. 🙂

OK, this worked for me:
1. Save iTunes install file to your desktop.
2. Disconnect from internet.
3. Disable Firewall/Security software.
4. Run install. Note that it installs Application Support and a bunch of other software this time.
5. Run iTunes.
6. Enable Firewall/Security software.
7. Reconnect to internet.
8. Download Watchmen Director’s Cut post haste.

TY so much for your tip. I was ready to reformat my whole HD.

Thank you for this! I did it a little differently. I uninstalled all apple software from my PC (Vista Ultimate). Then I ran the AppleApplicationSupport.msi file. Then I ran the iTunes install. It worked. Before Windows wasl killing the AppleApplicationSupport install causing QuickTime not to run and therefore iTunes not to run.
I was minutes away from formatting my harddrive. I had it all backed up and ready to go. I really did not want to do this, so I searched for a solution again and found yours. Thank you again!

This fix is PC only. Backup your iTunes Library, uninstall iTunes then follow one of the 3 procedures listed below
1. CMD LINE — cmd line to directory containing » iTunesSetup.exe»
Type without quotes «*iTunesSetup.exe /passive /norestart*»
2. Using Batch File — Using 7zip or WinRAR, right click » iTunesSetup.exe» then «*Extract to iTunesSetup*». Using notepad, copy and paste code below then save file as » InstalliTunes.bat» in the iTunesSetup directory containing the extracted files.
*USE THIS ONLY IF QUICKTIME IS ALREADY INSTALLED*
+msiexec.exe /i «iTunes.msi» /passive /norestart+
+msiexec.exe /i «AppleApplicationSupport.msi» /passive /norestart+
*USE THIS ONLY IF QUICKTIME IS NOT INSTALLED*
+msiexec.exe /i «iTunes.msi» /passive /norestart+
+msiexec.exe /i «AppleApplicationSupport.msi» /passive /norestart+
+msiexec.exe /i «quicktime.msi» /passive /norestart+
