Alice: Good morning kids! Do you know me? Right you are, I am Alice from Wonderland. I came to invite you to visit a new shopping center! Look at the photo of it. It is called “London”. Do you know why this shopping center has such name?

P1: Because it is as big as London city?

P2: Maybe because they speak English?

Alice: Quite right. Because sellers and buyers speak only English in this shopping center. You can speak English too, can’t you? It means that you can visit it. Do you want to visit “London” shopping center? Ok. It is far from your school and we shall travel there by magic bus (shows a bus).

2. The aim of the lesson

T: So, we are going to visit a big shopping center today. But before travelling tell our beautiful guest:

— Where do you live?

— Do you live in a house or in a flat?

— What floor is your flat on?

— What people live in your neighbourhood?

We know a poem about people in our street. Who can recite it?

All the people in our street

Are people that I like to meet.

I take a walk and say “Hello!”

To all the people that I know.

Some are happy, some are gay,

Some just look the other way.

— What shops are there in your neighbourhood?

— What kind of shop is “Kalach”?

— Do you go shopping?

— What do you usually buy?

Let’s remember a poem about apples.

Apples are sour,

Apples are sweet,

Apples are juicy

And nice to eat.

T: Do you like doing shopping? Our pets like doing shopping too. Look at these funny animals – a Bear and a Bunny. Guess what? They also go shopping. Let’s listen to a poem about them.

A bear and bunny

Have much money.

They go to the shop for carrots and honey.

When a bear and a bunny

Ask for carrots and honey

The man in the shop says,

“Where is your money?”

How strange and funny,

They really have money.

That’s how they buy

Their carrots and honey.

II. THE MAIN PART

Remember – to visit a new shopping center “London” we should know many English words. Imagine you are managers and have to deliver different goods to the shops. Here on the blackboard you can see goods and shops. Match them together.

Shops: butcher’s, chemist’s, bakery, newsagent’s

Goods: rolls, buns, biscuits, meat, sausages, chickens, shampoo, medicine, newspapers, books, magazines.

T: Well done, kids! Sorry, managers! Tell me – what can you buy at these shops?

2. Pair work. Dialogical speech.

T: I see you know the words. But how can you manage with a dialogue?

a) Listen to the dialogue. Be ready to put the sentences in the correct order.

b) Make up your own dialogues using this example.

Take your shopping lists which you made at home. Some of you will be a seller, somebody will be a buyer. Sellers – choose any shops you like. Buyers – look through your shopping lists and buy something!

T: Great job! It’s high time to get into a bus and start travelling to a new “London” shopping center!

Sing a song “The Wheels on the Bus”

4. Grammar Practice

T: Welcome to a new “London” shopping center! Look, there are many departments in it. What are they? How many stores are there in this supermarket? Look, there are many goods in it. Let’s make some goods plural.

Make the plural: a cherry, a goose, a fish, a tomato, a banana.

Look at the blackboard and check yourselves. (cherries, geese, fish, tomatoes, bananas)

T: Guess what! In a minute we shall travel to different countries and guess the origin of different dishes.

“Kulebiaka” is popular in . . . (Russia)

“Chocolate” came from . . . (France)

The origin of “Hot-Dogs” is from . . . (America)

A cat always knows whose meat it eats

Хто кішку годує, той її хазяїн

Don’t put all eggs in one basket

Дорога ложка до обіду

Money doesn’t grow on trees

Яйця курку не вчать

Oil and water don’t mix

Пийте діти молоко – будете здорові!

A cat in gloves catches no mice

Сидячи на печі не випечеш калачі

An egg is dear on Easter day

Не клади всі гроші в один карман

Eggs cannot teach a hen

Як потопаєш – так і полопаєш

An apple a day keeps the doctor away

Гусак свині не товариш

T: You coped with proverbs greatly! To continue our fruitful cooperation let’s check our hometask. You were to read the text about shopping. Open your books at p. 43, find ex.4
