Use Custom Email Domain with iCloud Mail

When you subscribe to iCloud+, you can use up to five custom domains to send and receive email with iCloud Mail. Learn how to get started.

If you subscribe to iCloud+ and own a personal domain name, you can set up iCloud Mail to use it when sending or receiving mail so your recipients see mail coming from your personalized email address. After you configure your domain, you can set up any existing email addresses you already own, create new ones, or delete any you don’t need anymore. You can use your custom email address in the Mail app on any device signed in with your Apple ID and iCloud Mail turned on, or on iCloud.com/mail. You can also use it for Messages, FaceTime, Calendar, to sign in to your device, and more. You can use iCloud Mail to send and receive email with up to five personal domains, with up to three email addresses per domain.

If you share iCloud+ with your Family Sharing group, you can also share your email domain with them. Anyone in your Family Sharing group can add a custom domain, choose whether or not to share it, and manage the email addresses that they use with that domain.

To get started with or manage Custom Email Domain, go to iCloud.com/settings/customdomain.

If you use a Managed Apple ID, Custom Email Domain isn’t supported. Learn more about Managed Apple IDs.

Add a custom email domain

To use a custom email domain with iCloud Mail, you need an Apple ID with two-factor authentication turned on. You also need to set up iCloud Mail on your devices.

Remove a custom email domain

If you no longer want to use a custom email domain that you set up for iCloud Mail, you can remove it. After you remove it, you and members of your Family Sharing group can’t send or receive email for any addresses at that domain in iCloud Mail.

• Теперь выберите пункт «Имя, номера телефонов, e-mail». В подразделе «Контактные данные» нажмите клавишу «Изменить» и удалите действующий адрес электронной почты.

Важно: владельцы устройств под управлением iOS 10.3.3 и более ранних версий ОС изменить идентификатор в «Настройках» не смогут. Для них существует другой, немного менее удобный, но по-прежнему верный способ.

• Если вы так и не решились обновляться на iOS 11, вам необходимо запустить веб-браузер, перейти на сайт appleid.apple.com и авторизоваться под своим логином и паролем.

• На открывшейся странице в разделе «Учетная запись» нажмите на клавишу «Изменить» — «Редактировать Apple ID».

• Введите желаемый адрес электронной почты, подтвердите намерение изменить Apple ID и обновите данные на используемых устройствах.

Если изменить адрес не получается, рекомендуем подождать некоторое время. По словам официальных представителей Apple, возможность смены доменного имени пока доступна в тестовом режиме.

«Sign in with Apple» domain verification issue

I’m following the steps to impliment «Sign in with Apple» and I’m stuck tyring to verify my domain on this page:

I’ve downloaded the apple-developer-domain-association.txt text file and placed it on my server at the path:

I’ve tested loading that file from a web browser.. it works fine. But the «Verify» button rejects with «Verification failed for domain». I get no further debug info.

Has anyone else run into this or verified sucessfully? I’ve noticed each time I download the apple-developer-domain-association.txt file it’s different and I’ve made sure my server is in sync with the last time I grab the file.. done this multiple times.. no luck.

I’ve had the same and it’s great to see Apple are jumping on the issue to help people.

One thing I had wondered, our infrastructure redirects domain.com/path.txt to www.domain.com/path.txt. I would expect the verification to follow a redirect like this.

Both urls (with and without www) return the same file in my setup. I omitted the www in the web dialog to generate the key file. Yes, no word from Apple and not seeing much help on other similar threads. Clearly it’s not just me, odd there’s no help at all. I was hoping to support Sign In with Apple on day one. If you find a solution please share. I did see one doc that mentioned a DNS txt record needed, but no further info on what that would be and wondered if it was just an out of date doc. If I find that page again I’ll post the link. D

The page I’m referring to is https://help.apple.com/developer-account/#/devf822fb8fc It looks like the SPF txt record is just for the email relay service though I still don’t see what that record would contain. D

Did you ever get a solution to this?

I’m curious about which hosting service you used too. I tried implementing it on an existing app, but since the domain is on Wix we have learned we can’t get this verified, without migrating the site elsewhere.

Still haven’t fixed our issue yet, or managed to get verififed. Tried a couple of domains now. Squarespace and some others. I’m really hoping we don’t have to do too much custom work to get a site up just for this.

We have finally gotten our domain verified, here is what we have learned, hopefully, it can help someone else:

• Wix doesn’t support storing a file like this, and doesn’t seem interesting in doing so.
• Squarespace allows you to «link» a file, which appears to work when you test the link, but it fails apple’s verification check
• Using a standard Webhosting service (for example https://www.interserver.net/)with cPanel allowed us to store the file in the right place, and apple to verify.
• Chrome Browser will allow you to verify, but will do so silently with no confirmation.
• Safari Browser will show you a visual confirmation that the domain has been verified.

Now, to see if the relay service will work with SES .

Verify domains in Apple Business Manager and Apple School Manager

Learn about the updated requirements to verify domains in Apple Business Manager and Apple School Manager.

This article is intended for network administrators.

Apple requires organizations to verify all existing unverified and new domains that are associated with Apple Business Manager and Apple School Manager. You must do this before creating Managed Apple IDs.

On December 8, 2021, all unverified domains were removed from Apple Business Manager and Apple School Manager organizations. Managed Apple IDs on unverified domains will be migrated to the reserved domain. End users won’t be notified of this change. All roles and privileges will remain intact, including the account password and associated email address. For example, if you’re using the domain example.com and don’t verify before December, managed Apple IDs will be renamed from person@example.com to person@examplecom.appleid.com automatically.

Administrators will not be impacted.

To prevent disruption, verify your domain now or move your Managed Apple IDs to a verified domain or the reserved domain.

View domains

To determine whether you need to verify your domain, sign in to Apple Business Manager or Apple School Manager and navigate to Settings > Accounts. Domains with a green circle to the left of the name are verified. Domains with a yellow circle need to be verified.

Remove a domain

To remove a domain that you can’t verify or don’t intend to use, sign in to Apple Business Manager or Apple School Manager and navigate to Settings > Accounts. Click Edit next to Domains, then click Remove. If there are Managed Apple IDs in the unverified or unused domain, click Update Domain Name to move the domain to a verified or reserved domain. You’ll need to notify these users that they’ll be required to use the updated Managed Apple ID the next time they sign in.

Verified domains

Certain features require verified domains, including integrating Apple School Manager with your Student Information System (SIS), importing users with Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP), or enabling federated authentication. If you want to use these features, you must use a verified domain.

Verifying a top-level domain doesn’t verify subdomains. For example, verifying example.com won’t verify appleid.example.com. You’ll need to verify appleid.example.com independently.

Reserved domain

A reserved domain is a domain that Apple provides. You can use it without additional verification. It’s based on the website that you used when you enrolled in Apple Business Manager. For example, if you enrolled using the website www.example.com, the reserved domain name would be examplecom.appleid.com. If multiple organizations use the same domain, an incremental number is added to the name, such as examplecom2.appleid.com. The reserved domain is generated automatically and can’t be edited or removed.

If you don’t verify your domain

If you don’t verify your domain, Shared iPad and iCloud sessions will be signed out and Managed Apple IDs on that domain will be moved to the reserved domain. End users aren’t notified of this change and it’s your responsibility to inform them.

Multiple organizations

Multiple organizations can all verify the same domain if the domain was associated with Apple Business Manager before March 2020. Each organization must verify the domain individually. Work with other Apple Business Manager administrators to make sure that one organization has verified the domain before the other organization starts the process. If multiple organizations try to verify at the same time, it could cause errors when validating the TXT record.

Personal Apple IDs

Verifying a domain doesn’t create conflicts with existing Apple IDs that use the domain. However, if the organization enables federated authentication, users will be required to choose a new name for conflicting Apple IDs.
