Fall 2021 Apple Event Rumors: iPhones in September, MacBook Pros in Late October, and More

This year, Apple has already released several new products, including new iPads, the 24-inch iMac, the new Apple TV, and of course, AirTags. Looking ahead to the next few weeks, the list of 2021 Apple products will grow even longer as Apple prepares to reveal the next iPhones, MacBook Pros, and more.

There has been an avalanche of rumors about this year’s fall season and what Apple has planned for the remainder of 2021. The cloud of product rumors can make it hard to stay updated with what new devices to expect and when. To help, we’ve created this guide for MacRumors’ readers that outlines what events we could see and what we should expect.

Apple’s last event was the Worldwide Developers Conference in June, which focused on upcoming updates to iOS, iPadOS, macOS, tvOS, and watchOS. Before that, the company’s first event of 2021 focused on new products was held on April 20 and included the M1 iPad Pro, ‌iMac‌, and more.

Due to the global health crisis, both 2021 and all events of 2020 have been held virtually online. Under normal circumstances, Apple would have held standalone events at the Steve Jobs Theater in Apple Park, with a live audience consisting of Apple employees, members of the media, special guests, and others. While some may have hoped that the 2021 iPhone event would be held in person following five virtual online events, that’s highly unlikely to be the case.

iPhone 13 Apple Event

The global health crisis last year not only required Apple to hold its typically in-person events online, but it also delayed the launch of the iPhone 12 to October, one month behind the usual schedule. Every September, Apple has released its new iPhones, but lockdowns and suppliers’ restrictions meant that timeframe wasn’t met. This year, though, things are looking different.

Multiple reports from credible outlets and journalists have pointed to Apple releasing its new iPhones on time in September this year. Apple last released its flagship ‌iPhone‌ in September 2019, with an event at ‌Apple Park‌ on September 10. Apple tends to have its events on Tuesdays, previously to give members of the audience sufficient time to travel to California to attend the product announcement. Still, even now, with digital events requiring no such travel, Apple has stuck to a preference of Tuesday.

Knowing that, we can make some educated guesses as to when Apple will hold its ‌iPhone‌ event this year. This September, Tuesdays will land on the 7, 14, 21, and 28. Looking at Apple’s pattern of holding events towards the middle of the month, it’s a reasonable guess to assume that the 2021 ‌iPhone‌ event could be held on Tuesday, September 14.

Of course, this is all speculation. However, Apple is one to stick to a strict routine when it comes to scheduling events, and such predictions based on the company’s previous event planning behavior have proven accurate. With the date possibly set, here’s what we can expect:

• iPhone 13 mini, ‌iPhone 13‌, iPhone 13 Pro, and ‌iPhone 13 Pro‌ Max: Expect significant new camera features, more advanced displays, improved performance, battery life, and smaller hardware changes.
• Apple Watch Series 7: May include a complete redesign featuring smaller display bezels and flat edges, more advanced health tracking capabilities, and bolstered internals.
• Third-Generation AirPods: The next generation of the standard AirPods could feature a design more in-line with the AirPods Pro with silicone ear tips, a redesigned charging case, and improved connectivity. The new AirPods have been rumored for some time, with recent reporting suggesting a launch alongside the new ‌iPhone 13‌.

Apple could, ultimately, decide to include more in its September event. However, given the event’s mainstream coverage, it may want to focus on its more popular products rather than reveal other new devices such as upcoming Apple silicon Macs.

Apple Silicon Mac Event

This year, one of the most rumored and highly anticipated product releases is the redesigned 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pro. The new laptops are expected to feature the most radical redesign to the MacBook Pro since 2016, with new ports, the death of the Touch Bar, a brand-new display based on mini-LED technology, and a powerful Apple silicon chip.

To anyone who follows the Apple news and rumor cycle, it will feel as if these MacBook Pros have been rumored for an eternity, but their long-awaited reveal is close. Last year, Apple announced its first Apple silicon chip, the ‌M1‌, and an updated 13-inch MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, and Mac mini at a November event.

Apple is likely to follow a similar path this year, separating its ‌iPhone‌ and Apple Watch announcements from these new MacBook Pros. All credible reports suggest a launch before the end of the year. While it’s harder to pinpoint a specific date for this event compared to the September ‌iPhone‌ event, there is a relative timeframe we can look into.

An account that goes by the name of «Dylan,» which has shared accurate information in the past regarding Apple’s plan, including details about the 24-inch ‌iMac‌ weeks before its launch, has stated the new MacBook Pros are set to launch in late October to early November. Here are the possibilities for when we could see an Apple silicon Mac event this year, based on that information:

• Tuesday, October 19
• Tuesday, October 26
• Tuesday, November 9

An unlikely possibility is that Apple releases the new MacBook Pros through a press release on its website, similar to how it released the ‌AirPods Pro‌ in 2019 and updated ‌iPad Pro‌ in 2020. That, however, is highly unlikely as Apple will likely want to tout in an elegant way the new MacBook Pros, their design, and their powerful performance aimed at high-end professional users.

Surprise Third Event?

In 2020, Apple held three separate events in the fall, with one focusing entirely on the redesigned iPad Air, 10.8-inch iPad, and Apple Watch. This year, Apple is working on a less significant round of updates to its ‌iPad‌ family. Rather than update two ‌iPad‌ models, Apple is expected to release only an updated iPad mini this fall.

Given this, it’s unlikely Apple will hold an entire event dedicated to just a single ‌iPad‌ model. Instead, it may decide to include the iPad mini at its Apple silicon or ‌iPhone‌ event or none and release it via a press release.

What else is in store for 2021?

With new iPhones, Apple Watches, MacBook Pros, and AirPods all possibly awaiting a launch this fall, is there anything else? In short, probably not. While Apple is continuing to work on several other products, such as a larger Apple silicon ‌iMac‌, they’re not expected to be released until early 2022. Apple is also working on a redesigned ‌Mac mini‌, Mac Pro, and ‌MacBook Air‌, all expecting a release next year.

Apple’s 2021 Event Plans: New Products and Software Coming in 2021

In an average year, Apple holds three to four events. There’s usually a spring event in March, the Worldwide Developers Conference in June, a September event that’s focused on iPhone and Apple Watch, and sometimes an October event if there are iPads or Macs expected in the fall.

In this guide, we’re keeping track of all of the Apple events that are on the horizon and what we’re expecting to see at each one, so make sure to check back in regularly. There are no additional events expected in 2021, and the next event we’ll see will likely take place in the spring of 2022. We’re also expecting WWDC in June and Apple’s traditional September event in 2022, both of which are regularly yearly events.

April Event

Apple held an event in April 2021 and introduced AirTags, new iMac models, an updated Apple TV 4K, and refreshed versions of the 11 and 12.9-inch iPad Pro.

June Event — WWDC

Apple held the Worldwide Developers Conference in June, debuting iOS 15, iPadOS 15, watchOS 8, tvOS 15, and macOS 12 Monterey. Details on everything new in these software updates can be found in our dedicated roundups.

No new hardware was introduced at WWDC, with Apple instead focusing on the new software updates that were released in the fall.

September 14 «California Streaming» Event

Apple held its annual iPhone-centric event on Tuesday, September 14. At the «California Streaming» event, Apple unveiled the iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max, all of which launched on September 24.

Apple also introduced the iPad mini 6 and the ninth-generation iPad, also with a September 24 release date.

The Apple Watch Series 7 was introduced at the September event, but due to supply constraints caused by manufacturing issues, it didn’t launch until mid-October.

October 18 «Unleashed» Event

Apple held a second fall event with the tagline «Unleashed» on Monday, October 18, which focused on new high-end MacBook Pro models and third-generation AirPods, as well as some new colors for the HomePod mini. Apple also introduced a lower-cost «Voice Plan» for Apple Music.

Products Coming in 2022

• Mac mini — Apple is developing a high-end version of the Mac mini, which will feature additional ports and a more powerful Apple silicon chip. It will include an improved version of the M1 chip with a 10-core CPU that has eight high-performance cores and two energy-efficient cores, plus 16-core or 32-core GPU options. The Apple silicon chip will support up to 64GB RAM and four Thunderbolt ports. It’s supposed to use the same chip that the MacBook Pro will use, but it was not announced at Apple’s October event and so a 2022 debut appears likely.
• MacBook Air — Apple is developing a thinner and lighter version of the MacBook Air that will have thinner bezels than the current model. The bezels and the keyboard will be an off-white color, and the chassis will not have a wedge shape. The machine will feature a mini-LED display, MagSafe charging technology and USB-C ports for connecting external devices, but it won’t have an HDMI port or an SD card slot. It will include an faster version of the M1 chip with the same number of computing cores as the M1 (eight). The new Apple silicon chip will support better graphics with nine or 10 GPU cores instead of the seven or eight in the current M1 MacBook Air. The MacBook Air could see a launch in mid-2022.
• AirPods Pro — Apple is working on a new version of the AirPods Pro with a more compact design and a new wireless chip. The design is said to eliminate the short stem that sticks out from the bottom, resulting in a more rounded shape closer in design to competing wire-free earbuds from Google and Samsung.
• iPhone SE — Apple is rumored to be developing a new version of the iPhone SE with 5G and an upgraded processor, with a release expected in the first half of 2022.

Products With Unknown Release Dates

• Mac Pro — Apple is working on two versions of the Mac Pro, both of which feature a redesigned chassis that’s smaller in size. The new Mac Pro models will feature high-end Apple silicon chip options with 20 or 40 computing cores, made up of 6 high-performance or 32 high-performance cores and four or eight high-efficiency cores. These upgraded chips are also expected to include 64 or 128 core GPUs.
• Larger iMac — Apple is still developing a larger version of the iMac with more powerful Apple silicon chips, but paused work on the larger version to launch the 24-inch iMac model. There is no word on when the larger variant of the iMac might launch, but it is expected to include much more powerful Apple silicon chips.

Further in the Future

• AR/VR Headset — Apple is working on augmented/virtual reality headset that could come at some in 2022 or 2023. The headset is said to feature a dedicated display, built-in processor, and an «rOS» or reality operating system. Input will be via touch panels, voice activation, and head gestures, and it’s said to have a high price point at around $2,000. Current rumors suggest a launch at the end of 2022.
• Foldable iPhone — Apple is allegedly working on a foldable iPhone that might be between 7.5 and 8 inches, with a launch date slated for 2023 at the earliest.
• Apple Car — There have been a lot of twists and turns in the saga of Apple’s electric car development, but reliable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes Apple is still planning on a full autonomous vehicle rather than just an autonomous car software offering, with a launch to happen between 2023 and 2025.

Этой осенью Apple проведёт как минимум два мероприятия

Один из старших вице-президентов Apple, в разговоре с глазу на глаз, раскрыл одному известному журналисту, по секрету, одну из сокровенных тайн компании. Оказывается, осеннее обновление компьютеров решено проводить ежегодно, в годовщину выхода 16-дюймового MacBook Pro. А объявили этот замечательный профессиональный ноутбук 13 ноября 2019 года. Процессор Apple M1X

M1X вовсе не то, чем кажется. Во-первых, это не процессор, это чип на кристалле которого размещен почти целый компьютер. Во-вторых, вовсе не факт что этот чип и в самом деле будет называться M1X. Процессор расположен на кристалле чипа M1X, их даже несколько. Вероятность что новый чип будет представлен, если октябрьское событие будет о компьютерах – сто процентов. От Apple ждут профессиональные компьютеры с мощным чипом от Apple внутри. Не факт что этот чип будет таким, как сообщалось о нём в утечках и слухах, но пока это все что мы о нём знаем.

В центральном процессоре десять ядер (в M1 – восемь), из них восемь производительных (в два раза больше чем в M1) и два энергоэффективных (в два раза меньше чем в M1). Графических процессоров два варианта, с 16 и с 32 ядрами. Как в Apple A15, где ядер 4 (для iPhone 13/13 mini) и 5 (для всех остальных). В нейронном процессоре 16 ядер, как и в M1, но в M1X этот процессор, по слухам, значительно мощней. Само собой, новый чип поддерживает больше разъёмов Thunderbolt/USB 4, большее число внешних дисплеев, до 64 ГБ объединенной памяти и до SSD ёмкостью до 8 ТБ. По другой версии – 32 ГБ объединенной памяти.

Новый MacBook Pro 14″

Больше всего пользователи ждут MacBook Pro 14″

По слухам, MacBook Pro c M1X внутри будет два. С 14- и 16-дюймовыми экранами. В обеих моделях будет тот же чип. Надеюсь что оба варианта M1X, с 16- и 32-ядерным графическим процессором, будут доступны при покупке обеих моделей. Вероятность что 16-дюймовый MacBook Pro с новым чипом внутри будет представлен близка к стопроцентной. Злоумышленники, взломавшие серверы в Quanta Computer, компании производящей ноутбуки для Apple, опубликовали их чертежи, чтобы убедить Apple в реальности их угроз. Мини-светодиодный (mini-LED) экран, на месте Touch Bar – функциональные клавиши, много разных разъёмов на корпусе.

В такие же цены я верю с трудом, но поживем – увидим.

Mac mini M1X

Mac mini M1x вряд ли сильно изменится внешне

Вероятность объявление Mac mini с новым чипом и в новом дизайне невелика, но все же не нулевая. В прошлом году M1 Mac mini стал приятной неожиданностью ноябрьского события Apple. По неофициальной информации выход нового Mac mini перенесен на 2022 год. В M1X Mac mini будет использоваться тот же самый чип что и в MacBook Pro, надеюсь что выбрать вариант чипа с 16 или 32 ядрами в графическом процессоре можно будет при оформлении заказа.

Наушники AirPods 3

AirPods 3 вряд ли будут лучше, чем AirPods Pro

Вероятность представления новой модели AirPods на осеннем событии не нулевая, но она и не слишком высока. По идее их можно было бы объявить и пресс-релизом. Конечно, у Apple может быть другое мнение на этот счет. Настоящая презентация поможет увеличить продажи новой модели наушников. Тем более, есть что показать.
