Apple repairs and service coverage expired

Question: Q: REPAIRS and SERVICE COVERAGE EXPIRED: NEED TO CHANGE BATTERY

Hi. I was wondering if Apple Service would still help me and accept my request to change the battery of my macbook pro even though the service and coverage is already expired. I am willing to pay if ever. I am sorry I not a very tech savvy person.

I would highly appreciate all responses. Thanks.

They should be able to as long as not an Obsolete Mac. Here are some prices you can expect to pay for a battery on a Mac:

That only means that your warranty or AppleCare (if used) has expired. It doesn’t mean that they won’t change the battery for a price if needed. However, I’m still unclear on the eligibility for a battery replacement service. I was under the impression that Apple still requires that the battery health be under 80% to be eligible for the paid service.

For all the Retina MacBook Pros, the battery is held in the case with an adhesive. Since it would be a pain to remove this adhesive (solvents are usually involved) Apple simplifies the battery replacement service into a complete replacement using a prepared top case (may be new or refurbished) with a fresh battery. They receive the top case and will send it in to get a new battery where it would then go out as a replacement part for a battery service or to fix top case damage. The top case includes the case materials, the keyboard, trackpad, power button, etc.

So — what particular model? As in type and year?

Question: Q: Apple Support Coverage shows ‘Repairs and Service Coverage: Expired’ on a 10-month-old MacBook Pro

I bought a 13″ Retina MacBook Pro (Early 2015 edition) 10 months ago from an authorized retailer in my country. I didn’t buy AppleCare at the time as I couldn’t and I thought I would do that later. But now that I want to and went on to check the warranty status on my product, this is what I got. Does it mean my product can no longer have AppleCare? How can a 10-month-old product’s warranty get expired? I have both the box my Mac came with an original receipt of purchase. What are my options here?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X El Capitan (10.11.4)

Having purchased the Mac from an authorized dealer outside the U.S. doesn’t guarantee the one year limited warranty.

May 2, 2016 10:47 PM

Unfortunately, Apple usually starts the warranty period when they ship the product; when you purchase a Mac from a reseller, you need to register it online using your Apple ID and possibly having to prove the purchase date by sending a copy of your purchase receipt to Apple as the product might have been sitting at the reseller for weeks.

So, did you register your device online? If you still have the receipt, I’d suggest contacting Apple to get the date changed.

Thank you, let me try and use the Support Chat option and see what Apple reps have to say about it.

Yes, I checked it from https://checkcoverage.apple.com/
I was under the impression that you get a one-year limited warranty no matter where you bought the product from. I registered my Mac when I bought it.

Yep I remember registering it online but they never asked for a have the purchase receipt sent to them. I do, however, have that purchase receipt with me.

You have right to even buy AppleCare for your MacBook Pro. I fit possible, try to make Genius Bar appointment and ask about it.

May 2, 2016 11:32 PM

Did you register it with your purchase date? As I said, the date is automatically set by Apple when 1) you buy the product directly from Apple or 2) when the product is shipped to the reseller. So, you would need to check the dates on your online registration.

And yes, the warranty is for one year — but, as I said, it depends on when the warranty was started.

At this point, I would take it and the receipt to your nearest Apple store and ask them to change the date. You can then purchase Applecare (the extended plan) if that is what you want to do.
