Меняю свой отзыв, так как починили наконец и прога стала заводиться на 10.11.6.
Отдельное спасибо разработчикам — вышли на связь и мы вместе занялись отладкой 🙂
Changing my review because fixed at last and app became launch on 10.11.6.
Special thanks to Rajaram Shetty and others with whom we began to solve the problem 🙂

/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.rdc.macos/Data/Library/Application\ Support/com.microsoft.rdc.macos/.com.microsoft.rdc.application-data_SUPPORT/ лежат тонны зашифрованных файлов вида CD290736-67BF-4A41-92A9-0E1DD493B02 И это при том, что сама программа занимала 17 мегабайт.
BigSur?
На BigSur не работает (вылетает).
Когда пофиксите?

CPU Usage is WAY up, and Doesn’t support Retina screens
I’m shocked that the new version still does not support remote connections with “retina” resolution. It is possible to smoothly render remote 2k and 4k desktops using Remote Desktop on Windows, but the Mac version remains artificially low res.
Worse than that though, doing the same tasks, Activity Monitor reports this new version uses 2-4x as much CPU as the previous version (with the square icon). I noticed this when my 2016 Macbook got HOT using the app… it had always remained at room temperature no matter what when using the old version.
I hope that this is merely an error on Microsoft’s part, but given some of the things the company has done lately, it’s hard to rule out the possibility that they’re doing things other than remote desktop with those CPU cycles.
Works great
Since the whole pandemic, I have been relying on this daily for 8 hours. No crashes at all, can be laggy at times even though both PC and Mac have a wired connection but its not anything that will hold you back from getting work done.
Doesn’t work on my MackBook Pro anymore.
The latest version is no longer compatible with 2011 MacBook Pro (the OS can only go as far as Sierra)
I can’t find an older version to use.

Fantastic, fast, and smooth from my small use
Had no qualms with the “square logo” version. I used it often, using both Active Directory logins and local logins. Did mass software installs on multiple machines simultaneously all remotely from the app. This one I feel like runs even faster and smoother than the last one! Great job, devs. I also can see on here that the devs are responding to many of the (often unbelievably whiny and uppity) complaints on this review page, often proving the customer wrong or letting them know that their desired feature is forthcoming. Thank you for your dedication, dev team. I feel these guys deserve a 5-star review. The average rating for this app largely seems to be due to customers’ ineptitude or ignorance, so the rating really isn’t fair or telling of the quality of the app.
nearly perfect
I have a specific usage case — I work in a multiplatform environment in which I work on the Mac and on the PC. I don’t want to keep changing physical keyboards, so despite the fact that the two physical machines are next to eachother beneath my desk, I use remote desktop to view and operate the PC while working on the Mac. This works reasonable well except that the Remote Desktop Service on the PC requires that I can only be logged in either via the Remote Desktop app OR the PC itself. Since there are some operations that cannot be performed via RDP — attaching to a VPN being one of them — it would be nice if I could just leave the PC logged in and operate it via Remote Desktop at the same time. Now, I’m sure there really IS such a way, but the internet is not my friend in helping me find it. So properly-speaking, this probably a complaint about the service and not the client app, but the entire eco-system is failing me in small ways. Also, while I appreciate the option that allows the Apple key to be interchangable with ctrl for edit operations and find, it doesn’t seem to work consistently, and as everyone who has ever switched back and forth between the Mac and Windows knows, confusion over which meta key to use in editing will eventually cause brain damage and is likely to send hardware on ballistic journeys through windows (not Windows).
Current version resets many times a da
Update: latest version now just resets over and over all day. It takes a good 30 seconds and sometimes I have to just disconnect the RDP and reconnect it in order to be able to work again. I really miss the old RDP versions here on the Mac that just worked all day long. I still need this tool every day.
Not sure why you keep breaking a tool that so many rely on daily.
This latest version crashes (on the Mac) if I type too fast in Visual Studio on my Windows Desktop at work. I get the spinning beachball- have to exit to the Mac, force quit MRD and restart it, then reconnect. I’m finding myself doing this at least 2 or 3 times per hour! I try to type slowly, but then end up getting really focused on my work and start moving faster. I use VI so I’m typing everything and it seems to be when I’m repeating an edit over and over that it crashes MRD. This is a Productivity KILLER! Like I said it happens when I’m focused and your bug is a sure way to kill that focus — every time! I wish it were easier to revert to an older version. I was forced to update when I upgraded to Mojave and decided to start clean and re-install everything. This is the only app that makes me regret that decision!! I was on an old stable version and had been refusing to update. Sigh!

Overall good — some flaws.
I’ve been using this for many years now to adminsiter many Windows servers.
The main positive is that it works properly with Mac DPI scaling. This is an awesome feature. I can wind up the resolution for a session that needs real estate, or turn it down to be more comfortable if it doesn’t — all nicely anti-aliased/supersampled. Absolutely A for this alone. It’s miles ahead of the Windows client.
My main negative: If I lose my network connection, terminated sessions bounce away in the Dock and force me to click a dialog letting me know the session was terminated. If I had 5-6 sessions open this is a pain and pointless. I can’t even Command-Q to close out without clicking each and every one. Imo, there should be an option for these to be transient notifications, not hard popups.
Not perfect, but great
It doesn’t have the same «built-in»-ness of the Windows 10 RDP client, but it has fantastic capabilities and is quite easy to use once you learn where you need to go for certain functions. Overall if you’re using this app and you’ve no experience with remote desktops, it might be a slightly up hill learning curve, but if you’ve used RDP or even VNC on Windows, it’s really easy to pick up the bits that you need to learn.
“Simplified” layout is actually more confusing
I have the version 8 and version 10 side by side.
I have over 80 Remote Desktops links and by far it’s far better layed out in Version 8 than with 10 which is just one huge list (or view them “by icons”) — so if you have more than say 4 Remote Desktops you connect to regularly, your going to see a list of “fine print” names without contrasting “darker” backgrounds every second connection — which really makes it easier to see.
I’m sure “under the hood” there’s been changes with version 10 which are nice — but I’m yet to read anything in the notes which makes this a “must have, upgrade”.
Still to find the “redirect printing to a local printer” option work — I’ve imported all my 87 sites (yes — 87) and find it doesn’t print to my local printer (even though the only option I can see is ticked in Remote Desktop 10 but it’s not clear if that is the one). So I might need to read a manual here — if I can find what Microsoft call this feature in the DOCUMENTATION SEARCH as it’s sure not finding “FORWARD PRINTING DEVICES” as it was called before in version 8. Sigh — changes like Microsoft did to Skype — change the entire look so everyone goes “what’s happening — where is….?”. Change for the sake of “makeover” for the look and feel of other products?
