Find out what to do if you need help with volume or other features of your Siri Remote, Apple TV Remote, or home theater remote.

Use your Siri Remote or Apple TV Remote

Your Apple TV 4K or Apple TV HD should automatically detect the TV or receiver that you plug it into and program your Siri Remote or Apple TV Remote 1 to control power and HDMI input.

Before using your Siri Remote or Apple TV Remote to control your TV or receiver, clear the path between your remote and the front of your television or receiver. Volume control normally works using the IR sensor 2 on the front of your equipment.

If volume, power, or HDMI selection don’t automatically work for you, you might need to program your remote for volume or turn on HDMI-CEC on your TV or receiver.

Use a home theater remote

You can use a home theater remote, like a network-based remote for home-control systems or an infrared remote (also known as a universal remote), to control your Apple TV.

To set up your home theater remote to control your Apple TV:

1. Add your Apple TV to the Home app and make sure that you assign it to a room.
2. Add the remote to the Home app on an iOS or iPadOS device and make sure that you assign it to a room.

After you add the remote to the Home app, you can use it to control any Apple TV that you have in your home.

To learn different ways you can use your remote to control your Apple TV, go to Settings > Remotes and Devices and select Learn Remote.

If you have issues with your remote or want to learn more about using your remote to control Apple TV, contact the manufacturer or visit their website.

Get help with your Siri Remote or Apple TV Remote

If you need help with volume or other features of Siri Remote or Apple TV Remote, you might need to program your Siri Remote or Apple TV Remote manually or make sure that HDMI-CEC is turned on.

Program your remote for volume

If volume control doesn’t work automatically, you can manually program your Siri Remote or Apple TV Remote:

1. On your Apple TV 4K or Apple TV HD, go to Settings > Remotes and Devices > Volume Control.
2. Select Learn New Device.
3. Follow the onscreen steps to program your Siri Remote or Apple TV Remote to control volume for your television or receiver.

Your Siri Remote or Apple TV Remote can control volume for either your television or your receiver, but can’t control both simultaneously.

Make sure that HDMI-CEC is on

If some features don’t work, check the following:

1. Make sure that your TV or receiver offers HDMI-CEC support. For help, ask the TV manufacturer or check the manual.
2. Check that HDMI-CEC is turned on in the menu of your TV or receiver. Use the remote that came with your equipment. Since manufacturers often have different names for HDMI-CEC, look for a setting that ends in «Link» or «Sync.» Here are some examples:

• LG: SimpLink
• Philips: EasyLink
• Samsung: Anynet+
• Sharp: Aquos Link
• Sony: BRAVIA Sync

1. Apple TV 4K and Apple TV HD ships with the same remote everywhere. In countries and regions that support Siri, the remote is called Siri Remote. Elsewhere, it’s called Apple TV Remote. Siri works on either remote as long as you’re in a country or region that supports Siri.
2. While volume control normally works using the IR sensor on the front of your TV or receiver, some receivers use HDMI-CEC instead. With volume through HDMI-CEC, you don’t need a clear path between your remote and the front of your receiver.

Frustration

Let me start with the good. I was able to watch a movie that was not streamable elsewhere. Now the bad. I understand that this is ad supported. It’s actually good, because that also means it’s free. What’s not good is that the ads start out at a reasonable frequency, then seem to be every few scenes in the movie. Even that wouldn’t be as bad if it wasn’t the same ad over and over again. A bait and switch for online gambling that promises a money back guarantee that ends up being only redeemable for store credit. Also, as the movie progressed it became laggier than 90’s online video using a dial up connection. Yet no problems with other streaming before or after it using other services. For this to be useable the lagginess needs to be fixed and the ads need to be more diverse. I’ll likely try again, but only for something not streamable elsewhere.

I like crackle

I had an account with this app before Chicken Soup. Sony+ 2019 transition. At that time ,I could not view anything and would get a msg. That the app was not available in my area?? Although it was fine before shares were sold ,Crackle Plus. Anyway, I got another video company & loved them more. But, decided to see what happened to my account on “Crackle”,Months later, I suppose the company got their acct. holders back online and I could access “Crackle “again. I don’t care for the frequent low budget “B” movies R, X rated films they offer , but at least they do rate the films. I have to go on-line to get a true description of their movies .
The alphabet search engine is way off. Type (A) in the search window and you will get a list of any movie with an (A) In the title ?? Title search needs improvement I have found some oldie Danny Kaye, Bob Hope, but many films I like could just as well be found on-line with other streams that have smoother & easier buffering. “ Crackle” films’ buffer is irritatingly & increasingly slow.

Their support is not exactly quick to fix a problem

I’ve got this app on my phone and AppleTV. I don’t use it on my phone except as a means to get it on the tv. I’ve found quiet a few titles that just won’t play. At the moment they have an Aliens channel. I was excited to start a little marathon. alien played fine. But Aliens has refused to play for three days. I’ve rebooted the appletv. Removed and readded the app. Signed out and in. Rebooted again. Reset my router. No solution. So I contacted crackle tech support. I’ve gotten emails saying they’ve sent it to their engineers. Ya da ya da. It works fine on the phone, but I don’t want to watch it on my phone. I want to watch it on my tv. Pretty unenthusiastic about the slow and seemingly endless process of getting this issue resolved. Yeah I know. It’s a free app and it plays free movies, when they actually play.

Apple TV app issues

On the main menu on the Apple TV when scrolling through the channels category you can’t see what your scrolling. Also only the main button on Apple TV works. All the other buttons are useless in this app. Can you please take advantage of all of the remote controls thank you

Good but could be better

The app is great for being able to watch a great variety of TV shows, movies and live TV on the go. However, the app apparently doesn’t save data from previously watches shows or movies, so that you can pick back up where you left off. If I stop a show, I have to go back to the Home Screen, find the show and start the show from beginning and then FF to where I left off. There is also an issue when I have my BT head sets connected. If I pause, it cuts the sound off, and again I have to go back to the beginning of the home page and show and start from beginning to get sound back. Very aggravating but it’s still great to be able to access the shows I like!

Update for the appletv version please

Works great on the phone but it needs to be fixed for the appletv when you scroll through the app it doesn’t highlight whatever you are trying to pick or watch!! Good app but it needs some improvements
