Apple pie shine is probably the most popular and sought after type of bootleg whiskey ever made, and for good reason — it’s delicious. We’ve already posted procedures for making a basic mash and even instructions on making peach moonshine. Here is our favorite (high octane) apple pie moonshine recipe.

The «Instant Satisfaction» Method

First, add the apple concentrate, cinnamon sticks and brown sugar to a pot. Bring to a boil and then simmer on very low heat, covered, for 20-30 minutes. Stir a few times as it is heating up to dissolve the sugar. Heating causes the cinnamon sticks to release their flavor very quickly, allowing you to be able to drink it immediately. I like to call this the «instant satisfaction» method.

After simmering, remove the pot from heat and let it cool. Make sure it is completely cool, and none of the burners on the stove are on before moving on to the next step.

After the mixture has cooled, split it between 4 pint jars (or 2 quart jars). Top the jars off with 150 proof corn whiskey. Remember, 100+ proof moonshine is flammable. You do not want to do this anywhere near a heat source.

If you completed all of the steps, congratulations, you just made your very own apple pie moonshine. You can start enjoying the fruits of your labor immediately.

The «no-boil» method

They say that good things come to those who wait, and we think that this statement applies to apple pie moonshine as well as it does to anything else. If you want to make a truly supreme batch of apple pie shine, you’ll want to use this method. The «instant satisfaction» method listed above causes flavor to be rapidly released from cinnamon sticks, making your batch instantly drinkable. However, «steeping» the ingredients overnight, without boiling, produces a better product. Why? Well, we aren’t exactly sure, but we think that boiling the cinnamon sticks cause additional flavors to be released, making the final product ever so slightly bitter. The «no boil» method provides 100% of the flavor with none of the bitterness.

Beware, this recipe is high proof. A lot of recipes call for adding a gallon apple this and a gallon of apple that, but by the time you’re done adding all that liquid, you’ve dropped your proof down into the baby formula range. Apple concentrate provides apple flavor without compromising proof. This stuff sneaks up on you — and then it punches you in the face! But it’s oh, so good.

Gourmet Apple Pie Moonshine

The above mentioned recipe (cinnamon, sugar, and apple juice concentrate only) will make a great batch of apple pie moonshine. However, add spices like ginger, orange peel, cloves, allspice, vanilla bean, peppercorn, etc. and you’ll have something that will make your tastebuds do backflips. If you would like to serve up some hot apple pie moonshine, here’s what we would suggest. Use the recipe above to make standard apple pie moonshine. Then, buy a couple of gallons of apple cider and spice it to taste using the same ingredients above. Heat it in a crock pot WITHOUT the apple pie moonshine. (You don’t want to add the moonshine because you’ll vaporize all of the alcohol if you heat it over a long period of time.) Just set the jar of apple pie moonshine next to the crock pot and let your guests add a bit (or a lot) to each cup of cider they pour.

Легендарный Apple Pie Moonshine

Apple Pie Moonshine (благозвучно перевести на русский не получилось, но есть альтернативное название – яблочно-коричный самогон) был самым популярным бутлегерским напитком за всю историю существования запрета на алкоголь в Северной Америке. Не мудрено, ведь только корица и яблочный сок могли превратить то, что гнали самогонщики в лесах во времена Сухого закона, в достойный и питкий алкоголь.

  • 1,9 л. яблочного сидра
  • 1,9 л. яблочного сока
  • 4 палочки корицы
  • 1 бутон гвоздики
  • 1/8 ч. л. мускатного ореха, молотого
  • ¼ ч. л. сухого корня имбиря, молотого
  • ¼-½ стручка ванили
  • 250 г. тростникового сахара
  • 200 г. белого сахара
  • 500-750 мл спирта 95%
  • 300-500 мл водки (лучше самогона из кукурузы)

Метод «мгновенное удовольствие»

В кастрюлю подходящего объема налить сидр и яблочный сок, добавить все специи и сахар. Довести до кипения и проварить на медленном огне 40 минут. Снять пряную смесь с огня, остудить. После охлаждения процедить через сито, добавить водку (наиболее подходящим для этого напитка будет именно кукурузный самогон) и спирт. Количество крепкого спиртного определяйте по вкусу – крепость обеспечит спирт, пикантность – самогон. Разлить в литровые банки или бутылки, дополнительно в каждую банку положить по вываренной палочке корицы (не обязательно). Пить ликер можно сразу, но лучше выдержать 1-2 недели в прохладном месте. Перед подачей обязательно взбалтывать.

Метод «без кипячения»

Увидев традиционный способ приготовления «яблочного пирога» я был в недоумении – зачем варить сидр, что за кощунство? Благо, не все американцы живут в спешке. Метод «без кипячения» подразумевает классическое настаивание, когда сахара растворяются в холодном сидре и соке, затем смешиваются с крепким спиртным по вкусу с добавлением корицы и других специй, после чего настаиваются до тех пор, пока вкус напитка не приблизится к идеалу. Разумный и рациональный подход.

    Apple Pie Moonshine очень популярен в америке, переводится Самогон-яблочный пирог (дословно), по-Русски можно назвать как коктейль яблочный пирог. Если кто-то придумает более благозвучней- поделитесь. Внизу есть подсказка на второй рецепт, смотрим внимательно

    Состав:

    1.25л Ябочного сока

    1.25л Яблочного сидра

    65гр Коричневый сахар (настоящий типа мусковадо с патокой) см. фото внизу

    100гр Обычного сахара

    2 палочки корицы

    170мл зернового дистиллята (американцы используют Everclear ) крепостью 95% . Можно заменить просто спиртом. (Можно больше- на личное усмотрение.. )

    В принципе, сидр можно заменить самодельным, но он есть не у всех, так что смело покупаем в магазине. Сок тоже, обязательно осветленный, натуральный.

    Процесс приготовления:

    Берем кастрюлю. Вливаем в кастрюлю яблочный сок, яблочный сидр, высыпаем коричневый и белый сахар и одну палочку корицы. Доводим до кипения, снимаем кастрюлю с огня и даем остыть до комнатной температуры. Затем заливаем дистиллят или спирт.
    Заливаем все в чистую банку с плотной крышкой и кладем вторую палочку корицы. Убираем в темное прохладное место на две недели. Через две недели вкус напитка станет еще лучше. Из этого количества ингредиентов должно получиться почти 3 литра напитка.

    Если все сделано правильно, напиток в холодильнике (ставить после 2 недельного старения) осветлится хорошо, выпадет небольшой осадок. Если не выпал — не страшно, на вкус не повлияет.

    Внимание! пьется легко, т.к. напиток очень вкусный, но знайте меру — можно незаметно оказаться в «окурках».

    Is This Real Moonshine? What Is Moonshine?

    This isn’t the illegal moonshine made in bathtubs you typically think of. Moonshine is slang for high-proof distilled alcohol produced «under the radar.» The name came from the fact that it was typically made late at night to avoid detection. It’s actually been legal in the US since 2010 and it’s definition is clear, un-aged whiskey. This recipe uses no real moonshine, but instead we use Everclear which is easier to find and has the same range of proof.

    How do I Make Apple Pie Moonshine?

    Making apple pie moonshine is incredibly easy. And since it makes so much, it’ll last you a while, too.

    1. Start by bringing our cider, juice, sugar, and spices to a rumbling near-boil.
    2. Bring the temperature down to a simmer, then leave at a simmer for an hour.
    3. Allow the mixture to cool completely.
    4. Stir in the alcohol and store in airtight containers — I prefer large mason jars.

    You can strain out the spices, but I recommend leaving at least one stick of cinnamon inside each mason jar. If you want, you can skip the cinnamon and add in about ½ cup of Fireball instead for a nice cinnamon kick.

    What Can I Use Instead of Everclear?

    If you don’t have access to Everclear or other 190 proof grain alcohol, you can use the highest proof alcohol you can find. There are higher proof vodkas available you can try, too. I’ve seen brands such as Smirnoff even sell higher proof versions of their vodka.

    What Does Apple Pie Moonshine Taste Like?

    My recipe for apple pie moonshine makes a smaller batch than most, and we use mostly apple cider instead of an equal mix of cider and apple juice. As a result, it packs a heavier apple flavor, and has more viscosity. Because of all the spices we add it, it tastes a lot like apple pie in a glass.

    Since we use Everclear, a bit of vodka, and some spiced rum, it also packs a big punch in terms of alcohol. Luckily, as the apple pie moonshine sits, the less alcohol you can taste. But there is still a lot of liquor, so sip lowly and drink responsibly.

    This moonshine is great right after it’s made, but it gets better the longer it sits. I recommend making this apple moonshine and leaving it to sit in the back of your fridge for at least 2 — 3 weeks before giving it a taste. You will see why it is a holiday favorite! Speaking of.

    How Long Does Flavored Moonshine Last?

    It all depends on how you store your apple pie moonshine. In an airtight container, it should last 3 — 4 months in the back of your refrigerator.

    If you seal your jars properly in your mason jars, they can last up to three years. Properly sealed jars of moonshine do not need to be stored in the refrigerator until they are opened.

    Some people even store their moonshine in the freezer. There, it can last 2 — 3 years.

    Since this recipe makes a pretty decent amount of moonshine, I prefer to give away a few small mason jars to neighbors and friends, so moonshine never lasts more than several months in my home!

    Apple Pie Moonshine

    Back in 2012, I discovered Midnight Moon Moonshine. I bought 2 jars of the Cherry, one to gift and one for us. Let me just say that moonshine is a party in a jar! It may or may not have caused a ruckus!! Immediately after I began to tinker and made my own Apple Pie Moonshine.

    The night before Mothers Day (back in 2013) a few of my girlfriends were sitting around my kitchen table (as the guys played cornhole outside) and let’s just say that more giggles and mischief came out of a jar of Apple Pie Moonshine. I swear I never laughed so hard!

    When I decided to try my hand at making my own Apple Pie Moonshine., I wanted it to be less strong and more flavorful and enjoyable. Because the moonshines we had tried from the store were actually awful tasting. It was more of a novelty that we would drink it (and shudder each time).

    Honestly, the homemade Apple Pie Moonshine recipe I came up with is delicious! It’s smooth yet has a kick. It can sneak up on you.

    Since I don’t have a still in my backyard…I use Everclear as the base for this and all of my moonshine recipes and it works perfectly!

    One quart sized jar of the stuff I was buying ran about $26.00. My recipe yields over 4 times that for about the same total price – score!

    A couple of years ago I began adding in apple chunks for some extra flavor. It’s not necessary, I just like doing it. After the mixture has cooled the apple chunks are very soft, I mash them right the liquid with a potato masher, then strain the liquid out into another pot before adding in the Everclear. As I strain, I press on the solids so they release all of their juice.

    Tips on Making Apple Pie Moonshine

    • The better your ingredients the better the result. I use farm fresh apple cider when I can get it and organic apple juice.
    • I like to use one or two Honeycrisp apples to cut into chunks and cook along with the mixture. Mashing them up afterwards for extra flavor as well as little tidbits of apple.
    • Tinker with the amount of sugar you add. Apple cider sweetness as well as apple juice sweetness varies. The more alcohol you end up adding the less sweet it will be also.
    • Do not add your alcohol until the mixture cools (if you add it when hot, the alcohol will dissipate some).
    • Always taste and adjust the next day after it has chilled. Add more alcohol to make it strong, add additional cider if you feel you made it too strong.
    • I keep this in the freezer. Remember to leave headspace at the top of your containers/jars. Liquid expands in the freezer.
    • Depending on how strong you make your moonshine will dictate if it freezes, is slush or doesn’t freeze. If it does freeze, it will thaw quickly. It’s so delicious a little slushy, mmmm!
