CSS background images resizing incorrectly on iPad and iPhone.

My site’s background image is resizing nicely in Chrome and Safari using background-size: cover, but when I go to test my website on an ipad or iphone, the CSS background image is really zoomed in and looks horrible. I’ve read lots of other questions on here relating to this and none have solved my problem.

.background has no container and is 100% width of the screen.

I had the same issue, I used SCROLL instead of FIXED.

Apparently, the iPad’s Safari is downsampling images above the 1024px threshold. I had tried using scroll instead of fixed but that wasn’t successful. Other tricks didn’t work for me either.

I solved this by splitting my originally-too-large 1600×1600 image into two images. Because of that, I was able to use two 1024px sized images and achieved an even better readability than before.

Maybe a workaround like that would work for you, too.

Background image not showing on iPad and iPhone

I want to create a section with a background covering it in a mobile web page, so I was using the following CSS code:

The background is showing correctly on Android (Chrome, Firefox . ), but it is not showing at all on iPhone or iPad (Safari, Chrome iOS . ). I have tried to set these properties using jQuery when the DOM is ready, but no luck. I read that the size might be a problem, but the image is about 700kB (1124x749px) so it should accomplish the Safari Web Content Guide rules. Which is the problem?

My problem was that iOS doesn’t support background-attachment: fixed . Removing that line made the image appear.

It looks like there are workarounds for a fixed background image though: How to replicate background-attachment fixed on iOS

There’s a problem with your CSS rule:

Your using the shorthand notation in which the background-size -property comes after the background-position -property and it must be separated by a / .

What you’re trying to do is to set the position, but it will fail as auto is not a valid value for it.

To get it to work in shorthand notation it has to look like this:

Also note that there’s a value called cover , which may be suitable and more flexible here:

The support for background-size in the shorthand notation is also not very broad, as it’s supported in Firefox 18+, Chrome 21+, IE9+ and Opera. It is not supported in Safari at all. Regarding this, I would suggest to always use:

Here are a few examples and a demo, to demonstrate that behavior. You’ll see that Firefox for example shows every image except the fist one. Safari on the other hand shows only the last.

See background-size. This property must be specified after background-position, separated with the ‘/’ character.

Change the wallpaper on your iPhone

Want to change the wallpaper on your iPhone? You can choose an Apple image or one of your own photos. Learn how.

Читайте также:  Huawei или apple часы

Open Settings on your iPhone

Go to Settings, tap Wallpaper, then tap Choose a New Wallpaper.

You can also turn on Dark Appearance so that your iPhone dims your wallpaper depending on your ambient light.

Choose an image

Choose an image from Dynamic, Stills, Live, or one of your photos. The default wallpapers change with each iOS update.

To choose a Live wallpaper or a Live Photo, you need an iPhone 6s or later.

iPhone XR and iPhone SE (1st and 2nd generation) don’t support Live Wallpaper.

Move the image and choose a display option

Drag to move the image. Or pinch to zoom in and out, so the image fits the screen.

Some images might not move and scale.

If Perspective Zoom is on, the wallpaper moves as you tilt your screen. To turn it off, tap the Perspective Zoom button. The Perspective Zoom display option isn’t available when Reduce Motion is on or when Low Power Mode is on. If your wallpaper is a Live Photo, you can turn on either the Live Photo effect or Perspective Zoom, but not both at the same time.

When you’re done adjusting the image, tap Set. Or tap Cancel to start over.

Set the wallpaper and choose where you want it to show up

You can set the wallpaper as your Home screen, Lock screen, or both. The Home screen appears when your iPhone is unlocked. The Lock screen appears when you wake your iPhone.

To see your new wallpaper, lock your iPhone or check the Home screen.

To see your new Live wallpaper in action, touch and hold the Lock screen.
