Ingredients

  • 90 g suar
  • 90 g flour

For covering:

  • 750 g apples, sour
  • 1 pck. Custard powder, (cream)
  • 450 ml apple juice
  • 50 grams sugar
  • 200 g cream
  • 100 g quark, (low-fat quark)
  • 2 sheets gelatin
  • 50 g chocolate couverture, dark
  • 30 g powdered suar

Apple Biscuit Cake

Instructions

  1. Beat the eggs with the sugar in about 5 minutes until creamy. Fold in the flour, put the mixture in a springform pan (base covered with baking paper) and bake at 175 degrees for about 15 minutes. Peel off the baking paper and let it cool down.
  2. Peel and quarter the apples, remove the core. Cut the apple quarters crosswise into thin slices.
  3. Mix the pudding powder with 5 tablespoon apple juice. Bring the rest of the apple juice to the boil with sugar, stir in the mixed pudding powder. Bring to the boil briefly, fold in the apples and let steep for 2 minutes. Take it off the stove.
  4. Wrap the sponge cake in a cake ring. Spread the apple mixture on top and chill for 2 hours.
  5. Soak gelatin. Whip the cream. Mix the quark with the powdered sugar, fold in the cream. Heat the gelatin. Stir the mixture into the gelatin, tablespoon at a time. Spread on the cake. Remove the shavings from the couverture with the peeler and decorate the cake with them.

Cream cheese frosting is super easy to whip up. The most important thing to remember is your cream cheese and butter need to be soft. Then everything comes together beautifully with an electric mixer. I absolutely love cream cheese frosting!   • 1.5 blocks cream cheese softened
  • 2 tablespoons butter softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 cups confectioners’ sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray a 9×13 pan with non-stick cooking spray.
  2. In a large bowl whisk together sugar, eggs, oil, and vanilla, until combined.
  3. In a medium bowl whisk together, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, baking soda, and salt.
  4. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until combined.
  5. Fold in the diced apples and pecans.
  6. Pour batter into prepared baking pan. Bake 50-55 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Let cool

    Действительно, а в чем разница-то? Раньше, например, и мне было совершенно все равно: pie это или cake, главное, что сладкое, а мой собеседник сам разберется, о чем речь. Сегодня такая самодеятельность в выборе терминов режет мне слух также, как и когда американец называет наши булочки или пирожки с мясом какими-нибудь пирожными. На днях так случилось, что в одном из комментариев к фотографии торта на фейсбуке я прочла перевод “pie”, и сразу же после этого план статьи сам стал вырисовываться в голове. Итак, сегодня время разобраться, что и как нужно называть, чтобы эти названия воспринимались адекватно.

    • Cakeторт. От “пирога” торт отличается тем, что в нем несколько слоев бисквита (sponge cake, ни в коем случае бисквит не переводится biscuit, см. ниже), которые между собой склеены кремом. Как нам известно, торт также сверху украшается кремом. Есть разные торты, один из них – cheesecake, который на русский переводится именно как чизкейк, поскольку дословный перевод (сырный/творожный пирог) не отражает сути (и не вызывает особого аппетита).

    • Pieпирог. Здесь имеется ввиду тесто с начинкой (или корж с начинкой – pumpkin pie, который пекут к дню Благодарения, apple pie, etc.) То, что у нас называется пирожки с капустой, мясом, картошкой на английский тоже переводятся pies: cabbage pies, meat pies, potato pies.

    • tart/pastryпирожное. Первое слово британское, второе – американское. Вообще слово pastry переводится как общий термин (выпечка), когда Вы не совсем уверены, как называется то или иное блюдо: I ate some really good pastries at the party, I wish I could remember what they were called.

    • biscuit/cookie – печенье. Первое слово британское, второе – американское. Biscuits в америке – это несдобные булки, которые подают на завтрак. Они несладкие, но непременно должны быть горячие и свежие.

    • sweets/candy- конфеты. Опять первое слово употребляется чаще всего в британском (в значении конфеты), а второе – в американском. Candy всегда в единственном числе, нельзя сказать 5 candies, обычно говорят 5 pieces of candy. Sweets допустимо и в американском английском как собирательный термин “сладкое”.
