This extension will block access to websites of your choosing. A master password controls all customization options, as well as access to any blocked site. It’s also possible to redirect navigation from one specific website to another.

Features:
1. Block unwanted domains.
2. Prevent access to a range of websites using wildcard matching or regular expression matching.
3. Reverse mode allows access to only some hostnames and blocks access to all others.
4. Custom redirection; you can redirect a single blocked hostname to a new destination.
5. Display a custom message on blocked pages.
6. Time and date based blocking. Only block access to the websites at specified times and dates. This feature can be configured per hostname.
7. Protect data leakage. This extension prevents certain hostnames from gathering network activity from your computer, since blocking occurs before any network request is emitted to the server.

10. Closes annoying pop-ups as soon as the opening request is received.
11. Pause and resume blocking from the right-click context menu of the toolbar button.

As part of our service, Block Site maintains and updates a database of known sites with adult content. Each URL you visit is checked against this database, in case you want to block adult content. Additionally, Block Site receives and analyzes data about visited sites. The data collected includes: visited URLs, your IP address, your operating system and the browser you are using, and the time stamp. Your privacy is important to us. The data collected is not used to identify individual users. In addition, the data collected is not shared with any third parties for the purposes of marketing or targeting individual users. You can always opt out from data collection by deselecting the checkbox next to the words “Block Adult Sites” which can be found under the Settings tab of the Options page. Note that once you opt out, some of the services provided by BlockSite will no longer be available.

Unfortunately Noel Briggs wasn’t able to co-maintain this add-on, so I took over again. Please donate if you would like to see BlockSite updated regularly.

2010/02/01: The first donation pledge of $50 was reached in less than two weeks. Thanks to all who’ve donated. I will be working on a major update (with probably much faster execution and certainly with less bugs). This can take a while, so don’t worry if you will not see the major update shortly.

Known spyware that transmits your browsing history to their servers, which makes no sense if all this extension did was block websites.

very bad update. I returned to older version 1.1.8.1-signed.1-signed.
because, i cant import my list from older version’s export.
also in new version, first opened blocked site and then diverted to another link. but in older version, the mozilla can’t open blocked site.

in older version when any site blocked, you receive a notify in down right corner and it hides automatically. but in new version, I need to close the notify from top of the window .

J’utilise Firefox.
Il n’est toujours pas possible de voir le Setting en Mode Private dans Firefox. Donc, il suffit de faire des copier/coller entre une fenêtre normale et une Private.
C’est très bien d’avoir la possibilité de masquer vos images dans les pages bloquées.

J’ai beaucoup apprécié l’intégration de la fonctionnalité qui ramène automatiquement dans la fenêtre appelante sans montrer la page bloquée, elle me faisait gagner beaucoup de temps. Il me semble que cela ne fonctionne plus car l’onglet ou la fenêtre appelée reste ouverte de nouveau.

Néanmoins, cette application est vraiment efficace.
