Account Management
Use your developer account and Certificates, Identifiers & Profiles to manage your membership and development settings.
Creating your free developer account
If you’re new to development on Apple platforms, you can get started for free. Simply accept the Apple Developer Agreement and an account will be created for you. Use this account to download beta versions of Xcode, visit forums, report bugs, or accept an invitation to join your organization’s account in the Apple Developer Program.
Managing your developer program account
When you’re ready to build more advanced capabilities and distribute your apps, you can join the Apple Developer Program to distribute on the App Store, Apple Business Manager, and Apple School Manager.* Organizations with specific use cases that require private distribution directly to employees through a secure internal system or a Mobile Device Management solution may be eligible for the Apple Developer Enterprise Program. If you join a program, you’ll see additional membership-related options in your account, such as membership information, access to Certificates, Identifiers & Profiles, code-level support, and more.
Resetting your device list annually
If you are the Account Holder, you can reset your list of development devices each year using Certificates, Identifiers & Profiles. You can register up to 100 of each device type for testing and Ad Hoc distribution per membership year. At the start of your new membership year, Account Holders, Admins, and App Managers will be presented with the option to remove listed devices and restore the available device count to 100 when first signing in to Certificates, Identifiers & Profiles .
You may disable a device on your list during the year, but doing so will not increase your number of available devices. When resetting your list, make sure to remove all devices you no longer use for development before adding any new devices.
Managing your App Store Connect account
Once you’ve completed your enrollment in the Apple Developer Program, you can sign in to App Store Connect with the Apple ID you used to enroll. App Store Connect is a suite of tools that allow you to submit and manage your apps for sale on the App Store, distribute beta versions of your app using TestFlight, accept legal agreements, enter your tax and banking information, view analytics, and more.
Updating your information
To update the Apple ID and/or email address associated with your developer account, sign in to the Apple ID website and modify your information.
To update your address, contact information, or organization name, please contact us . Note that certain updates, such as changes to your name or address, must be verified and approved, as this information is associated with contracts between you and Apple. You will be asked to provide documentation that reflects the changes you request.
Transferring the Account Holder role
If you’re the Account Holder of an organization’s team, you can visit your account settings to transfer your role to someone else on the team. Please note that the person you assign as the new Account Holder must be an employee and have the legal authority to bind your organization to legal agreements. If you’re enrolled as an individual and need to transfer your membership to someone else, contact us.
Can I switch my membership from an individual to an organization?
Yes, if you are the founder/co-founder of the organization. To start the conversion process, please contact us. You may be asked to submit business documents to verify your organization’s identity.
Can I transfer my app to another account?
Yes. Use App Store Connect to transfer qualifying apps to another account in case of an acquisition, asset purchase, or other similar situation. When you transfer an app, it will remain available on the App Store, all ratings and reviews will carry over, and users will continue to have access to future updates. Learn more in App Store Connect Help.
* You can use Apple Business Manager and Apple School Manager where available. View supported regions.

To update the Apple ID and/or email address associated with your account, visit My Apple ID, click «Manage your account», and sign in with your current Apple ID and password.

I’ll answer your second question first. No, this name isn’t really used elsewhere—just with your Apple Developer account. If you connect with other team members, they will also see this name.
Now for the first and more important question: Per Apple Developer Support (I called them because I also have this problem), whatever the name on your account was originally when the account was created, that is what your Apple developer name will be forevermore (even if you change your name on your Apple ID). My account was created nearly 15 years ago by one of my parents, so my mother’s name is my Apple Developer name (which, obviously, I hate—nothing against my mom). Apple Support was not able to change this name for me.
Here is what you can do:
- Create a new Apple ID with a different email. As tempting as it might be to use the name of your mom, your dog, your neighbor’s cat, or Qui-Gon Jinn, use your own name.
- Sign up for an Apple Developer account
- Sign into Xcode with the new account
It’s not the cleanest or most convenient solution, but it is a solution (and the only solution, at that).

Changing or Removing Developer Name in App Store
I have created an application for my customer. We have published the application with my account. Now, they want to change the developer name as their company’s name. Is there a way to change the developer name? Can I move my application to their business account so that Developer name changes to their business name?

Yes, you can transfer the app to other since WWDC 2013. Also, you can call the Apple Support to change the Seller Name. Here is a video about this: App Transfer Tutorial.
My apps initially appeared in the App Store with the wrong seller name. I don’t personally own a credit card, so a family member who did paid my developer subscription. While my correct name appeared elsewhere, under Seller it showed the name from the credit card. I used one of the contact options in iTunes Connect to request a name change, which was applied within a few days.
On the current Contact page, the Contracts and Legal category includes Request Name/Address update. Try that.
You’ll certainly find it easier to rename your account than to move the app to a different account. Here’s what they say about that.
I sold my app to another developer and can no longer distribute it on the App Store. Can I transfer the app to the new developer’s iTunes Connect account?
No, you can’t transfer the app to another developer account on iTunes Connect. To add the app to another account, remove the app from the current account and upload it to the new iTunes Connect account.
Note that uploading the app to a new iTunes Connect account will disable current customers from receiving automatic and free updates of your application. All customer reviews, rating, and ranking information will be reset. You will not be able to reuse the app name and SKU in the old account. If you have uploaded a binary or used the app with the iAd Network, your Bundle ID will not be reusable either.

How to manage Personal Team info on Apple Developer website?
Ever since WWDC 2015, developers now have a Personal Team in addition to the other teams they are members of.
My account is part of an organization as well, so when I go to my Accounts in Xcode, I see something like so under Team Names:
- Organization, Agent, Agent
- User (Personal Team), Free, Free
I accidentally created an app identifier using the «Fix It» button in Xcode using the wrong team (personal team instead of the organization). Now if I attempt to register that App ID for my organization, it complains that it is already in use. If I try logging in to https://developer.apple.com to see my App IDs, I only see the ones for my organization, and not my personal team.
If I double click my personal team in Xcode, I do indeed see a provisioning profile for the App ID in question. I cannot figure out how to see these provisioning profiles on https://developer.apple.com.
Is there a way for me to manage App IDs, provisioning profiles, etc. for a Personal Team on developer.apple.com, or can they only be managed via Xcode?
If it’s the latter, how would I delete an App ID I no longer need via Xcode?
Update: If I try to create a new Apple ID and log in to the developer portal, I see a severely striped down version. The top menu just shows Home, Programs & Add-ons, and Your Account. There is no way to access the iOS features such as Provisioning Profiles, App ID, etc. unless you pay the $99 fee. But even then, you would be accessing it for that new team ID, not your Personal Team.
Normally when you login or choose Change Team, it presents you a list of all the teams you are a member of. If I try this on an account that is a member of multiple teams, it shows those teams, but not the Personal Team option.
So far, it looks like if you ever click on «Fix Issue» while a personal team is selected, that App ID will be permanently registered to that team with no way of ever unregistering it.

Account Holder Role Transfer
The Account Holder of an organization’s team can transfer the Account Holder role to someone else on your development team. The person accepting the role of Account Holder must have the legal authority to bind your organization to legal agreements. If you’re enrolled as an individual and need to transfer your membership to someone else, contact us.
Transferring the Account Holder Role
To initiate the transfer of your Account Holder role to someone else on your development team, sign in to your account on the Apple Developer website and follow these steps.
If you’re enrolled in the Apple Developer Program:
- In your developer account, click the Membership tab.
- Scroll down to Settings, and click “Transfer Your Account Holder Role”.
- In the dialog that appears, select a person from the “Transfer to” pull-down menu, then click “Continue”.
- Read the Account Holder Transferor Agreement, select the checkbox, then click “I Agree”.
If you’re enrolled in the Apple Developer Enterprise Program:
- In your developer account, click the Membership tab.
- Scroll down to Settings, and click “Transfer Your Account Holder Role”.
- In the dialog that appears, click “Transfer Account Holder Role”.
- Complete and submit the form.
The person you’ve selected to be the new Account Holder will receive an email with instructions on how to complete the process.
Accepting the Account Holder Role
Verify Your Identity
United States or China Mainland
If you’re the transferee and are based in the United States or China mainland, you’ll need to verify your identity using the Apple Developer app before accepting the Account Holder role. After you verify your identity in the app, you can sign in to your account on the Apple Developer website to continue accepting the Account Holder role.
Other Countries and Regions
If you’re the transferee and are based in another country or region, proceed directly to the steps below.
Confirm on the Apple Developer Website
Complete the acceptance of the Account Holder role by following these steps.
- Sign in to your account on the Apple Developer website. Your Apple ID must have two-factor authentication turned on.
- In your developer account, click “Review Agreement”.
- In the dialog that appears, review the Account Holder Transferee Agreement, select the checkbox, then click “I Agree”.
Update Subscription
If you enrolled through the Apple Developer app, your membership automatically renews as an auto-renewable subscription. Once the Account Holder transfer is complete, you will need to turn off automatic subscription renewal and the new Account Holder will need to subscribe on or within 28 days after the membership expiration date.
Step 1: The previous Account Holder turns off automatic membership renewal by going to Settings > iTunes & App Store > Apple ID > View Apple ID > Subscriptions. Choose Apple Developer Program Membership, then tap Cancel Subscription. If you do not complete these steps, you will continue to be charged for membership, but the membership will not renew.
Step 2: The new Account Holder can renew on or within 28 days after the membership expiration date. Download the Apple Developer app, visit the Account tab, sign in, and tap “Renew Apple Developer Membership”.
Next Steps
Once the Account Holder transfer process is complete, an email will be sent to the admins on the team notifying them the Account Holder for the team has changed. As the new Account Holder for your organization’s team in the Apple Developer Program, you will assume the responsibilities of accepting all legal agreements and contracts, managing your app submissions, and renewing your team’s membership.
