Nest uses sensors, algorithms and the location of your phone to do the right thing automatically, turning off the heat and turning on the camera when you leave. Forget to set the alarm? It will notice, and send you a Remind Me alert.

Но впервые за последние несколько лет из-под крыла экс-менеджера фруктовой компании вышел самостоятельный продукт. «Умный» термостат Nest привлёк к себе внимание месяц назад, а затем необъяснимым и удивительным образом попал на полки Apple Store. Продержался он там не очень долго.
Термостат Nest исчез из практически всех крупных магазинов компании в США. Некоторые сотрудники на условиях анонимности сообщили, что команда снять продукт с полок поступила им от менеджмента, а остальные работники ритейла настаивали на том, что они банально распродали все единицы товара. Так или иначе, в данный момент все эти термостаты закрыты на складе, а приобрести Nest можно только через онлайн-магазин Store.Apple.com.
Читатели западных блогов выдвинули несколько версий, по которым термостат временно убрали из розничной продажи. Возможно, команда изначально исходила от компании Тони Фаделла, которой могло срочно понадобиться внести критически важные конструктивные изменения, влияющие на удобство использования устройства. Вероятно и то, что Apple внезапно поменяла своё отношение к продукту бывшего сотрудника. Но сейчас в кресле CEO сидит рассудительный Тим Кук, а не вспыльчивый Стив Джобс. В итоге прямого ответа нет, но никто особо не расстроен: за 250 долларов можно купить десять менее симпатичных, но не менее «программируемых» термостатов. [ap]
