Most likely one is not enough storage. Check your recently deleted images are cleaned out.

Hey there, irfan160,

Thanks for stopping by the Apple Support Communities. If I understand your post, you’re trying to record your screen on your iPhone, but get an error message that the recording couldn’t save, with the error Cocoa error -1. I’m happy to help!

There are a few reasons your screen recording may not be able to save. To help determine what is going on, I’d recommend first checking the storage on your iPhone, and making space as needed: How to check the storage on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch — Apple Support.

If there is enough space but you still are unable to save the screen recording, try recording a different app to see if the issue is app-specific. If not, I would next recommend force closing all open apps: How to force an app to close on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch — Apple Support then restarting your iPhone: Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch — Apple Support.

After restarting, check to see if you are able to record your screen. Move onto the following steps if you still need help. Test the screen recording after each step, stopping when the issue is resolved:

  1. Check for, and install, any iOS updates available for your device: Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch — Apple Support.
  2. Backup your iPhone: How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch — Apple Support, then reinstall the iOS software using the «Reinstall iOS» section of If you see the Connect to iTunes screen on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch — Apple Support.
  3. Restore your iPhone to factory settings, and then set it up as a new device (meaning without restoring the backup you made in the previous step, at least temporarily): Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings — Apple Support.

That is a very general error. Were you using the built-in screen recording app or a 3rd party app? How long was the recording? How much space did you have on the phone?

What is the context where you are seeing this error? It normally indicates a bug in an app, or, less frequently, iOS.

Mar 18, 2019 2:21 PM

-1 is a very general error that means «something went wrong and we don’t know what it was», so the context is really important to try to figure it out. If it was a one-time occurrence I would ignore it. If it repeats consistently then we can try to figure it out. It may just mean that the phone was out of available storage to save the recording.

Question: Q: iPhone Pinterest App (Cocoa Error -1)

This has been a problem for a couple years now and it’s been been absolutely driving me insane. There is absolutely zero information on the internet, apple and Pinterest have absolutely no idea and I’m just going mad. The problem is — when I want to save a photo to my camera roll from Pinterest I get a pop up message saying «The operation couldn’t be completed. (Cocoa Error -1). Nothing more. There is absolutely zero information from the internet, Apple or Pinterest. I have to screen shot anything I want, which is a problem if it’s photo that’s large enough to scroll. Also before anyone comments random things like restart your phone, do a hard reset, uninstall reinstall, etc. I’ve done pretty much all of that. PLEASE someone help me fix this. This is almost two years of not being able to save photos from pinterest and I use pinterest a lot on my phone.

If anyone has any questions or needs more details just ask. I am getting desperate to fix this.

That error is coming from within the Pinterest app, it would appear differently if it were an iOS error. You need to contact whomever develops Pinterest’s app.

Sep 9, 2017 10:57 AM

I’ve tried contacting Pinterest many times. No one has a clue what so ever. They haven’t been able to help me at all, apparently I’m the only person in existence with this problem. Pinterest works perfectly fine on all my other iPhones. No errors or anything.

Sep 9, 2017 3:44 PM

You are not alone! I have had this same exact problem for about the same amount of time. I was really hopeful that IOS 11 would finally fix it but notta. Screenshots annoy me so.

Oct 3, 2017 9:55 PM

It can’t be a Pinterest issue as I am trying to save pictures from Google Drive. I’ve read multiple posts of the same issue occurring on many different sites so it has to be an iOS issue! The only time it’s reported is from an Apple device that I have seen.

I have this EXACT same problem and it is driving me mad too.

I recently changed my phone and though great that will solve it but NO it is the exact same error.

it’s up to the developers of these apps and sites to test on different platforms, not Apples responsibility to modify their iOS or OS to accommodate someone else’s website or assets every time those developers are incapable of doing so themselves.

Im having this issue when moving videos to camera roll from “documents app” 🤔

Jan 2, 2018 2:23 PM

I’ve had the same problem on 2 different iPhones.

I’ve been unsuccessful in getting resolution from Pinterest. The last email response I received about 14 months ago was that it would be fixed in a few months». Poor customer service! I’ve stopped using the flawed app.

Feb 5, 2018 2:55 PM

It did work on my iPhone until I updated the app about 2 years ago.

Now I continually get the error message.

Question: Q: Cocoa error -1 in Photos

I’ve just upgraded from a 2016 MacBook Pro to a new m1 chip MacBook Pro. Does anyone know why I’m getting Cocoa error -1 when I try and access my images in Photos and can’t edit or download them?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.15

Well, without the answers to some of the questions above I’m going to be guessing a little. But you have one huge advantage. If all your photos are in iCloud, you can easily recover your full library from there:

The easiest way is to create a new empty library on your mac, (in the pictures folder is the normal place). Set this new library as the system library, and make sure iCloud photos is enabled, and your mac will then download everything from iCloud photos library into your newly created library.

First do you have enough space on your mac for your full library to be downloaded again. If so, carry on — if not, take a backup of your current library and then delete it from your mac. ( You still have the previous version on your old Mac, don’t you?)

Hold down the option key while starting photos, and click «create new». Name it Photos Library.photoslibrary, and locate it in your pictures folder. (First screenshot).

Then open the new library — go into photos preferences (general tab), and click «use as system photos library» (second screenshot)

Finally in photos preferences iCloud tab, set it up as the final screenshot. (You need to have enough space on your mac to download all the photos from iCloud)

It will then download everything from iCloud to the new library.

Which application are you sharing from?

And what is the file format of the photos you are trying to share? JPEGs, RAW files, other formats?

Hi, thanks for responding. I’m running macOS Mojave. Actually, Photos crashed and when I restarted it, it had loaded the two photos. I had Airdropped them from my iPhone as Photo stream hadn’t transferred them (must have had too many photos, or too little capacity perhaps) and was then using the ‘Share to’ feature to get them to the Photo library. They are jpegs I think but am not totally sure what format the iPhone uses.

Anyway, all is good now thanks for whatever reason 🙂

I have restarted my computer but still have this error message. Any help is appreciated — this is very frustrating.

Dec 29, 2018 9:43 AM

Not sure what more you can do. I also deleted some photos off both my phone and laptop. Good luck!

Dec 29, 2018 1:47 PM

Thanks, found a work around. If you send a photo to your computer and want to share to Photos — right click the photo and export to Photos.

Dec 29, 2018 2:35 PM

same error message when sending from DXO to Photos. Worked well before.

Dec 31, 2018 10:23 AM

I have the same problem. Did you find a solution?

Jan 7, 2019 1:55 PM

It fixed itself after Photos crashed. I had also deleted photos off my iPhone and the laptop. So I’m not sure what actually made the difference, but when I re-started Photos, the photos were there that I had tried to share. Perhaps try shutting down Photos, and re-starting your computer. Good luck.

I’m was trying to save a png file to Photos, and I assume the Cocoa error 66800 error message means that I can’t save a png file in Photos.

Jan 20, 2019 3:32 AM

In my experience you can. The reason why you’re having trouble is due to something else I’d say. Try closing photos and restarting your computer, which is what I did.

Jan 20, 2019 3:47 AM

Photos for Mac can handle PNG files. But files can become incompatible, if a third-party application embedded an unsupported color profile.

Arh, thanks Leonie

Cocoa error 66800. In Preview I found that this error notice came up when I went to File-share-photos but if I used the share icon at the top of the photo, then it worked without a problem. So press icon-share-photos and hopefully it should be fine.
