You can connect a PS4 controller to an iPhone and play iOS and PlayStation 4 games.
PS4 controller support is only available for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices with iOS 13 or later.
How to Pair a PS4 Controller With an iPhone
The iPhone officially supports the Sony DualShock 4 controllers. You can also use third-party PS4 controllers, but these may not function as expected. To pair a DualShock 4 with your iOS device:
On the PS4 controller, press and hold the PS button (the one with the PlayStation logo on it) and the Share button simultaneously until the light bar on the controller blinks.
Your controller is ready to pair. There’s a new entry on the iPhone Bluetooth settings screen, located in the Other Devices section. If you use a default PS4 controller, tap DUALSHOCK 4 Wireless Controller.
If pairing is successful, the PS4 controller appears under the My Devices section accompanied by the word Connected. The PS4 controller is connected to the iPhone and can be used with iOS apps that support it.
Which iPhone Games Can You Play With a PS4 Controller?
The number of iOS App Store titles compatible with a PS4 controller is limited. However, this list may grow as time goes on.
How to Play PS4 Games on Your iPhone
After you connect a DualShock 4 controller to your iOS device, you can play PS4 games with the help of a special app:
Graphics-intensive games may lag when wirelessly streaming PS4 games to an iPhone.
Turn on the PS4 and confirm that it’s connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your iPhone.
Download and install PS4 Remote Play from the App Store.
Launch PS4 Remote Play on your iPhone and tap Start.
Enter the email address and password associated with your PlayStation account.
Tap Sign In.
The app attempts to locate the PS4. This process can take a few minutes. Once located, the app registers, and then connects to the console. If the Wi-Fi signal is weak or the connection speed isn’t fast enough for Remote Play, the process is halted, and you receive an error message.
There are several troubleshooting methods you can try if your PS4 won’t connect to Wi-Fi.
After you successfully connect your iPhone to the console, you’re presented with the standard PS4 interface in split-view mode accompanied by a touchscreen controller. Select a game as you normally would on the PS4 using the physical controller to navigate.
Consult Sony’s official DualShock 4 Wireless Controller manual for more details on how to use the PS4 controller.
When the game launches, rotate your iPhone horizontally to landscape mode so that most of the on-screen buttons disappear. This way, the majority of the iPhone display is utilized for the game.
There is no way to get rid of the on-screen buttons completely.

- Visit Insider’s Tech Reference library for more stories.
As addicting and fun as iPhone games are, some games can be tricky to play when all you have is a touchscreen. This is especially true for first-person shooters and other games that require fine movement.
But there’s good news for PlayStation 4 gamers: You can connect your PS4 controller to your iPhone, and use it to play iPhone games.
Quick tip: Not all games have controller support, and the App Store generally won’t tell you which games allow it or not. The only real way to tell is to do research online or test it yourself.
You can get started by connecting your PS4 controller through the iPhone’s Bluetooth menu.
How to connect a PS4 controller to an iPhone
1. On your PS4 controller, press the PlayStation and Share buttons. Hold both down until the backlight light starts flashing, which indicates that your PS4 controller is in pairing mode.
2. While your controller is in pairing mode, open your iPhone’s Settings app and select the Bluetooth tab. Make sure Bluetooth is enabled on your iPhone — if it’s not, you can tap the slider at the top of this screen to turn it on.
3. Your iPhone will scan for nearby Bluetooth devices. When it finds your controller, you should see its name appear under Other Devices — if you’re using an official PS4 controller, it’ll likely be called DUALSHOCK 4 Wireless Controller. Tap it to connect.
4. Wait a moment. Once the controller successfully connects, the controller will be listed under My Devices, labeled with the word «Connected.»
Happy gaming! And if you’re looking for a new game to tackle with your new controls, Apple Arcade has lots of great options.

Connecting a PS4 controller to your iPhone or iPad with iOS 13 is as simple as connecting any other Bluetooth device, and involves putting the pad into pairing mode. From there the pad can detect it and connect to your device.
- Go to Settings, and then Bluetooth Settings on your iPhone or iPad.
- Press and hold the PS and Share button until the light bar starts to flash.
- When the PS4 controller flashes white it’s in pairing mode and should appear under Other Devices section in Bluetooth settings.
- Select the controller in settings to pair it.

Once it’s connected you should be able to play any game that supports external MFi (Made For IOS) controllers. Although it doesn’t look like all PlayStation’s usual pad features are supported, as the tweet below suggest.
The DualShock 4 is already working in iOS 13 beta 1, works like other MFi controller. Means you can remote play your PS4, but option, share, ps button and the touchpad won’t work. pic.twitter.com/6PbWukhaF5June 4, 2019
That’s likely because non-functioning buttons don’t have a matching counterpoint in iOS. Further updates might add them in but that might require Sony to allow or enable it.

Like the PS4 pad, connecting a Xbox One Controller to an iPhone and iPad with iOS 13 again involves putting it into a pairing state so your phone or tablet can see it and connect. Here’s how you do that with an Xbox One pad:
- Go to Settings, and then Bluetooth Settings on your iPhone or iPad
- Make sure the pad is on (press the Xbox button on the Xbox One controller if it’s not) and then hold the connect button on the front of the pad (the one with the little WiFi bars next to it) to put the pad in pairing mode.
- Once the Xbox pad is in pairing mode it should appear in the Other Devices section on your phones Bluetooth menu where you can can tap it to pair and start playing.

Once you’re connected you should be good to play games although, again, as your Xbox controller is working as an MFi (Made For IOS) controller don’t expect all the non-gameplay buttons to work as expected. That’s something xCloud might fix when it arrives but now it’s likely just moving and shooting.

How to connect your PS4 controller to an iPhone
If you game on the go but want more control over the experience than you can get with your phone’s touchscreen, you’re in luck. iOS 13 (or later) lets you connect a Playstation controller to your iPhone via Bluetooth pairing.
While you can also do this with an iPad and some Xbox controllers, we’re focusing on how to pair your PS4 DualShock controller with your iPhone.
Here’s how to connect
Go to the Settings menu on your iPhone.
Tap «Bluetooth» to get into the Bluetooth menu. It might already be on, but if it isn’t, turn it on now by clicking the toggle switch at the top of the screen. It’ll be green when Bluetooth is turned on.
Keep the Bluetooth menu open so you can see when the controller shows up and pair it.
On your PS4 controller, press the Playstation and Share buttons at the same time. Hold them down until the light on your controller starts to flash.
You should see “DUALSHOCK 4 Wireless Controller” pop up in the Bluetooth menu on your iPhone under other devices. Click that to pair your controller.
Your controller is paired when the light on the back stops blinking and turns a reddish pink color.
If you want to pair your PS4 controller with an iPad instead, follow the same steps.
How to disconnect
To disconnect your controller after you’re done playing, follow these steps:
If your phone has face ID enabled, you can get to the Control Center by swiping diagonally across your screen from the upper right to lower left. On a touch ID phone, swipe up from the bottom of your screen.
Press and hold the Bluetooth icon.
A menu will come up. Find the icon that says “Bluetooth: On,” then press and hold it.
Your available devices will come up, including your DualShock controller. Press the controller name to disconnect.
You can also navigate into the Bluetooth menu from Settings, the same way you did when you paired the controller in the first place. Once there:
Find “DUALSHOCK 4 Wireless Controller” under My Devices and click the small ‘i’ icon next to it.
Troubleshooting
If you’re still having problems connecting your controller, Apple recommends trying the following:
Unpair, then pair again. If that still doesn’t work, get more info on connecting Bluetooth accessories to your iPhone here.
If your DualShock 4 controller connects, but you still see a “connection unsuccessful” message, try pressing the Playstation (PS) button and waiting for it to connect.
Make sure you don’t have a bunch of other devices already connected, as there are limits to how many devices you can have paired at once.
