Customize your iPhone’s battery indicator with SmoothBattery

Out all the different indicators that appear in your iPhone’s Status Bar, the battery indicator is one of the most pertinent. But while it’s great at its job of displaying how much battery life you have left, it doesn’t have much to speak for in terms of user customization.

A new free jailbreak tweak dubbed SmoothBattery by iOS developer CydiaGeek changes that by providing iOS device users with a host of new battery indicator-centric configuration options.

Upon installation, you’ll find a new preference pane in the Settings app:

• Toggle custom battery indicator color on or off
  • Choose the custom color you’d like via a color picker
• Hide the battery image when connecting to a power source
• Hide the percentage charged text when connecting to a power source
• Hide the transition text containing the percentage charged
• Hide the yellow battery when low on power
• Remove the black edges around the battery icon
• Disable iOS’ low power alert when the battery level gets too low
• Disable sound and vibration
• Disable the bolt icon in the battery indicator when charging
• Put the numeric battery percentage inside the battery icon on the iPhone X

The developer includes a respring button at the bottom of the preference pane that can be used to save any changes you make.

If you’re trying to make your iPhone’s battery level indicator stand out from the rest of the crowd, or you just feel like colorizing it your way, then SmoothBattery is a great place to start.

Those interested in trying SmoothBattery can download it for free from Cydia’s BigBoss repository. The tweak plays nicely with all jailbroken devices running iOS 9 through 11.

How To : Change the Boring Battery Icon in Your iPhone’s Status Bar to Something More Flavorful

Good battery life is one of the most important things any phone or tablet should have, but iOS 7 isn’t always that great at handling power consumption. That leads to tunnel vision on the status bar’s battery meter. After all, you don’t want to be stranded in the middle of nowhere with no juice left to make a call.

So, if you’re staring at the iPhone’s battery icon in the status bar too much, why not make it a bit more interesting? In this softModder guide, I’ll be showing you a quick and easy way to give your iPhone’s battery icon a little more flavor. This is a jailbreak-only mod, so make sure you have a jailbroken iOS 7 device before continuing.

Hop into Cydia, then search for and install Alkaline, a free app from magn2o.

After installation you can access the two default themes, Bolus and Habesha, from the Settings. Go to the default Settings app on your device and scroll down to the section that contains your jailbroken apps. Alkaline should be listed near the top (they’re in alphabetical order).

Once inside Alkaline, the Theme tab is where all of your Alkaline battery themes will be added.

Now just select the theme you want from the list and Respring. Unfortunately, you’ll need to Respring every time you change your current theme, but it’s a small price to pay for a powerful new look.

Where do you see status icons

Status icons appear in the status bar on your iPhone:

About the status icons on your iPhone

To learn what an icon means, find it below.

Your carrier’s 5G network is available, and your iPhone can connect to the Internet over that network. 5G works with these iPhone models. (Not available in all areas.)

Your carrier’s 5G network with higher frequency is available, and your iPhone can connect to the Internet over that network. Works with these iPhone models. (Not available in all areas.)

Your carrier’s 5G E network is available, and your iPhone can connect to the Internet over that network. Works with iPhone 8 and later. (Not available in all areas.)

Your iPhone is locked with a passcode or Touch ID.

Your iPhone is paired with a wireless headset, headphones, or earbuds.

An alarm is set.

This icon shows the battery level of your iPhone. If this icon is yellow, Low Power Mode is on. If this icon is red, then your iPhone has less than 20% charge.

The battery level of your paired Bluetooth device.

Your iPhone is connected to the Internet through the Personal Hotspot of another iOS device.

Your iPhone is charging.

Your iPhone is connected to CarPlay.

If you see blue, green, red, or purple in the status bar

On iPhone X and later, the color shows as a bubble behind the time. On iPhone 8 or earlier, the color goes all the way across the status bar. Here’s what each color means:

Your iPhone is using Screen Mirroring, or an app is actively using your location.

You’re on a call or your iPhone is providing a Personal Hotspot,*

Your iPhone is either recording sound or your screen.

* For Personal Hotspot on iPhone 8 or earlier, you can also see how many devices joined your hotspot. appears in the status bar of iOS devices using Personal Hotspot.

If you see orange or green indicators in the status bar

With iOS 14 and later, you might see an orange or green indicator in the status bar on your iPhone. These indicators appear when the microphone and/or camera are being used by an app.

An orange indicator means the microphone is being used by an app on your iPhone.

A green indicator means either the camera or the camera and the microphone are being used by an app on your iPhone.
