Finding iphone using icloud

Find friends and share your location with Find My

Learn how to use the Find My app to share your location with friends and family members. You can even set up location-based notifications so you know if someone left a location or just got home.

The Find My app combines Find My iPhone and Find My Friends into a single app in the latest versions of iOS, iPadOS, and macOS. If you need help finding it, use Search on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch or use Spotlight on your Mac. You can also share locations on iCloud.com.

Share your location

When Share My Location is turned on, you can share your location with friends, family, and contacts from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with Find My. You can also share your location in the Find People app on watchOS 6 or later with Apple Watch models that have GPS and cellular and are paired with your iPhone.

Remove a device from Find My iPhone on iCloud.com

You can use Find My iPhone on iCloud.com to temporarily remove a device from the Devices list or turn off Activation Lock on a device you already gave away or sold.

If you set up two-factor authentication but you don’t have your trusted device, you can still use Find My iPhone. Just click the Find iPhone button after you enter your Apple ID. See How to sign in to Find My iPhone on iCloud.com.

To sign in to Find My iPhone, go to icloud.com/find.

Remove a device from the Devices list

If you’re not using a device, you can temporarily remove it from your account so it doesn’t show up in your Devices list. When the device goes online again, it reappears in the list if it has Activation Lock turned on (for an iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac, or Apple Watch) or is paired with your iOS or iPadOS device (for AirPods or a Beats product).

Turn off the device, or put AirPods in their case. The device must be offline before you can remove it from the Devices list.

In Find My iPhone on iCloud.com, click All Devices, then select the device you want to remove.

If you don’t see All Devices, it’s because you’ve already selected a device. Click the name of the current device in the center of the toolbar to see the Devices list, then select a new device.

Click Remove from Account.

Note: You can also remove your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac by turning off iCloud completely on that device. Turning off iCloud turns off all iCloud features on the device.

Turn off Activation Lock on a device

If you forgot to turn off Find My before you sold or gave away your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac, or Apple Watch, you can turn off Activation Lock using Find My iPhone on iCloud.com.

In Find My iPhone on iCloud.com, click All Devices, then select the device you want to erase.

If you don’t see All Devices, it’s because you’ve already selected a device. Click the name of the current device in the center of the toolbar to access the Devices list, then select a new device.

Because the device isn’t lost, don’t enter a phone number or message.

If the device is offline, the remote erase begins the next time it’s online. You receive an email when the device is erased.

When the device is erased, click Remove from Account.

You can use Find My iPhone on iCloud.com to find the approximate location of your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac, Apple Watch, AirPods, and Beats product if Find My is set up and the device is online. iPhone 11 and later with iOS 15 or later can be found for up to 24 hours after it’s turned off. Note: If your AirPods or Beats product are separated from each other, you see only one location at a time on the map. First, find the one shown on the map and put it in the case. Then refresh the map and find the other one.

If the device can’t be located: You see Offline under the device’s name. The last known location is displayed for up to 24 hours. Select “Notify me when found” to get an email when it’s located again.

To locate another device, click the name of the current device in the center of the toolbar to access the Devices list, then select a new device.

Locate a family member’s or friend’s device

If you’re part of a Family Sharing group, you can use Find My iPhone on iCloud.com to help locate any family member’s device. Their devices appear below yours in the Devices list.

Each family member must set up their devices to share their locations with other family members. See the Apple Support article Share your location with your family. Once they set up location sharing, you can locate their devices using the instructions above.

You can’t add a friend’s device to Find My iPhone. Friends who lose a device can go to icloud.com/find and sign in with their Apple ID.

Update the map

You can even find devices that are offline.

If your missing device can’t connect to the internet, the Find My app can still help you track it down using the Find My network — hundreds of millions of iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices around the world. Nearby devices securely send the location of your missing device to iCloud, then you can see where it is in the Find My app. It’s all anonymous and encrypted to protect everyone’s privacy.

AirTag can help you find just about anything.

Misplaced your keys? Forgot your purse? If they have AirTag attached, they won’t be lost for long. The Find My network can help you track down items on a map. You can play a sound on your AirTag to find something hiding nearby — you can even get the distance and direction to your AirTag with Precision Finding. 2

Find your friends.

Invite friends and family members to share their locations. So you can keep in touch with one another, coordinate around an event, or know when a family member has arrived home safely.

See where everyone is on a map.

When you share your location with friends, it’s easier for you to find each other and stay connected. Share your location for an hour, a day, or indefinitely — it’s up to you.

Know when they leave. Know when they arrive.

If you like, you can get notifications when your child arrives at school or a family member leaves work. Notifications are easy to set up, and each person gets the choice to opt in. So everyone’s privacy is respected.

What else can Find My find?

Find My technology can now be built into all kinds of things — like bikes, headphones, and more. So anything that works with Find My can be added right next to all your Apple stuff in the Find My app.

Everyone’s location data stays private.

Just like every Apple product, Find My is designed to put you in control of your data. Location information is only sent to Apple when you actively locate your device, mark it as lost, or enable Send Last Location. Data is encrypted on Apple’s servers and kept for no more than 24 hours. And when the Find My network is used, everyone’s information is kept private — even from Apple.
