Следить за всем

Беспощадный микроменеджмент — совсем не то, что всплывает в памяти при словах «триллер о принятии решений в экстренной ситуации». Но с первого взгляда в Gods Will Be Watching видно только его, и молодые и талантливые Deconstructeam даже не пытаются это замаскировать. Как ни парадоксально, в их случае это единственно правильное решение: только шоковая терапия с порога позволяет разглядеть настоящую Gods Will Be Watching.

Первая же ситуация: вы с командой революционеров захватываете научный центр. Уже прибыли спецназовцы, и все, что удерживает их от атаки, — четверо заложников в одной комнате с вами. Ваша задача — продержаться достаточно долго, чтобы лидер группы смог взломать базу данных. Потеряете всех заложников — конец. Позволите штурмовикам подобраться к вашим позициям — конец.

Все, что у вас есть, — большой перечень действий, как в текстовых квестах. Вы можете попытаться ускорить взлом — с шансом провала и потери части прогресса. Можете пойти на переговоры со штурмовиками или попытаться оттеснить их огнем, рискуя перепугать заложников. Есть смысл их успокоить, потратив на это еще немного времени, но, если вы будете с ними излишне мягки, заложники осмелеют и начнут планировать побег. Чтобы этого не произошло, можно наорать на них, ударить, прострелить коленку.

И так далее. Одновременно приходится следить за дюжиной взаимозависимых переменных, чтобы ни одна из них не достигла критического значения. Никогда не получается сосредоточиться на чем-то одном: увлеклись форсированием взлома — потеряли контроль над системами защиты. Пока восстанавливали связь, штурмовая команда успела приблизиться на опасное расстояние. Начали отстреливаться — один из заложников поднял панику и попытался сбежать. Пристрелили — паниковать начали остальные.

Вы будете проигрывать (очень часто!) и после каждого поражения вам придется начинать сначала. Все, на что вы угробили последние минут двадцать, летит коту под хвост — и это жутко злит. Но если после энной попытки вы не бросите игру, то в следующей будете аккуратней. И снова. И опять. И еще. И так пока не достигнете критической массы. В тот момент вы наконец поймете, как в это играть.

Gods Will Be Watching неспроста зовет себя триллером. Такой у нее метод нагнетания саспенса — грубый, но эффективный. В какой-то момент, когда вы зайдете достаточно далеко, напряжение возрастет до предела. Вы поймете, что уже пройден огромный путь и одна-единственная ошибка может заставить вас проходить его сначала. Сохраниться нельзя. Загрузиться тоже. Каждый выбор может быть решающим. Каждый ход в этом чудовищном менеджере сам по себе превращается в тяжелую дилемму: как решить возникшую проблему, чтобы следом не всплыли еще три?

НА ЗАМЕТКУ: на случай, если все совсем плохо, разработчики оставили «легкий» уровень сложности для тех, кто хочет просто оценить историю. Умираешь в нем намного реже, но из-за этого ощутимо перекашивается баланс — моменты, в которые вы должны быть на пределе, на «легком» осиливаются просто и с недоумением. Лучше воздержаться от поблажек.

Есть людей

Молодые и талантливые Deconstructeam будто назло начали игру с двух самых скучных уровней в игре — видимо, чтобы как можно больше народу сказало «нет, я не буду в это играть», написало разгромный отзыв в Steam и испортило им продажи. По-настоящему Gods Will Be Watching раскрывается в третьем акте, когда мы разбираемся во всех действующих лицах и внезапно всплывает мораль.

Пещера. Внутри — вы, ваша команда и горы научного оборудования. Вход в пещеру завален. Электросеть разорвана, и, чтобы оборудование заработало, приходится кем-то ее замыкать. И еще кое-что — вы все заражены смертельным вирусом!

Задача: найти правильную комбинацию компонентов для лекарства и раскопать завал, пока все не умерли. Любые действия требуют времени. Каждый член команды постепенно устает, так что приходится чередовать работу и отдых. Порой кого-то парализует, и тогда нужно, чтобы кто-то потратил время на зарядку дефибриллятора и привел бедолагу в чувство. В общем, одни неудобства.

Добраться до конца будет сложно, но вы всегда можете облегчить себе страдания. Если вколоть кому-нибудь смертельный образец сыворотки и провести вскрытие, процесс поиска лекарства ускорится, и ваши шансы выйти сухими из воды увеличатся. Не у всех, конечно, но так ведь тоже хорошо?

Gods Will Be Watching со зловещей легкостью позволяет творить ужасные вещи, чтобы облегчить свою участь. В следующем эпизоде (том самом, из прототипа с Ludum Dare) вы сможете съесть кого-нибудь из команды, и это тоже очень поможет двигаться дальше. Только вот хочется ли вам этого? Как в первой сцене можно было сохранить всех заложников, так и в третьей вполне реально оставить в живых всю команду, но это действительно непросто. Приходится лезть из кожи вон, чтобы все получилось. А получается редко.

Отчаянно ежиться

У Deconstructeam хорошо получается нагнетать атмосферу. Этому способствуют и решения, которые нам приходится принимать, и то, как выглядит происходящее. Gods Will Be Watching с пугающей легкостью транслирует любую чернуху так, чтобы от нее пробирало до костей. Когда пиксельной фигурке выламывают щипцами зубы, кажется, будто это происходит с вами. Когда того же человечка разрывают пополам, его ощущения невольно начинаешь примерять на себя. Спасибо звукам и звуковикам — они дают фантазии все необходимое, чтобы достроить образ.

И да, это действительно исключительный игровой триллер. Единственное, что подводит Gods Will Be Watching, — то, насколько она «не для всех». Даже если не отпугнет эпатажный ретро-стиль, то насторожит утомительный старт и наплевательское отношение к вашему времени. И либо вы начнете играть через силу, либо вас с ходу зацепит история.

Gods Will Be Watching — это череда вспышек сознания: мы переносимся то в прошлое, то в будущее, то вдруг оказываемся в месте очередной экстренной ситуации. Чем дальше, тем нажористее становится интрига, и финальное открытие великолепно расставляет все по местам. Это стоит испытать на своей шкуре.

Release date and new trailer

We are closer! Gods Will Be Watching finally has a release date! This summer, presumably in June, our point’n’click thriller about commitment and despair will be out willing to test you ethics in Steam, GOG and the Humble Store. Of course, all of you who already supported us getting a digital copy of the game will receive a Steam code.

The game was originally scheduled for february, but as we were working on it, we felt it needed more content and depth so we expanded the development to bring you the best experience we can create. This is somehow our debut with a big game and we want it to be as polished and awesome as possible.
