Ham and Cheese Apple Wraps
Ham and cheese apple wraps are a delicious combination of savory and sweet that you can pack in the lunchbox or serve for a high-protein snack!
I’ve made grilled ham & cheese sandwiches for years, but these apple wraps are a low-carb version that’s light and satisfying with crunchy, tangy-sweet flavors.
Ham & Cheese Wraps with Apples
These apple wraps are an easy lunch option that will fill you up without weighing you down, and they’re quick to assemble.
Since apples are notorious for browning, use my trick to prevent apple slices from browning before wrapping them with cheese and ham.
You can also swap the ham for sliced deli turkey and use any cheese that pairs well with fruit. My favorite options are Gouda, Cheddar, and Colby Jack.

Packing These Ham Wraps for Lunch
These apple wraps can be prepared the night before and packed into lunch containers along with a boiled egg for additional protein, whole-grain crackers, veggies, and hummus for dipping.

These would work for those days when it’s all “I’m hungry, but I don’t feel like eating” . Not to mention getting your 5+ a day.

These little ham wrapped apple/cheese slices are just what I was looking for…we provide snacks after church and have gluten-free families that will love these. I was running out of ideas for low cost, easy fixing finger foods. Thanks. Love your ideas!

What a GREAT idea!! Thank you for saving me this morning, lol! I just could not put together a lunch this morning, so I came to your site, knowing you’d give me inspiration and VOILA! There it was! I used goat cheese because I have a son with a dairy allergy and a daughter with a wheat intolerance, so lunches sometimes confound me! Anyways, thanks for helping me out this morning!!

Ham, Cheese and Apple Turnover
These savory pastries filled with ham, cheese and crisp apples are a great thing to have in the fridge or freezer, waiting to be reheated in the toaster or oven. Look for ready-to-bake rolled pie crusts (not the kind that is already in a pan). Once you get the hang of these, start experimenting—you can fill them with almost anything!
Makes 4 | Total Time: Less Than 60 Mins
Ingredients
- 1 (15-ounce) package ready-to-bake rolled pie crusts
- 4 slices APPLEGATE NATURALS ® Slow Cooked Ham
- 4 slices APPLEGATE ORGANICS ® American Cheese
- ½ crisp apple, thinly sliced 1 egg, lightly beaten
- 1 tablespoon water
Instructions
- Heat oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Remove pie crusts from packaging and gently unroll. Working with 1 crust at a time, use a rolling pin to roll out slightly, patching any cracks that appear. Using a sharp knife, cut the rounded edges from crust to make a 9-by-9-inch square. Then cut the square in half to make two 4 ½-by-9-inch rectangles.
- Fold 1 piece of ham in half and place on one-half of a dough rectangle, keeping a ½-inch border all around (trim ham to fit if needed). Fold 1 piece of cheese in half and lay over the ham. Top with 3 or 4 apple slices. Fold the dough over the fillings and use a fork to press the edges to seal. Repeat with the remaining dough, ham, cheese and apples.
- Transfer the pastries to baking sheet and cut a few vents in top of each pastry.
- Whisk together egg and water in a small bowl. Lightly brush top of each pastry with egg wash.
- Bake pastries until golden brown, 15–18 minutes. Let cool slightly before eating.

HAM, APPLE AND CHEESE QUICHE
Cheese quiche with chopped ham and apples is so good.
We like this ham, apple and cheese quiche anytime but it is really good with coffee for breakfast. It keeps well in the refrigerator and can be reheated in the oven or microwave. Serve it as a meal on a weeknight or just anytime. Add cooked chicken instead of ham for variety.
Ingredients for cheese quiche with apples and ham:
1 (9 inch) pie shell, uncooked (I used a bought frozen crust on this one but you could make your own with my recipe for homemade pie crust)
1 1/2 cups chopped cooked ham
1/4 cup chopped onion
1 cup chopped apples (I did not peel mine and used red delicious apples)
1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese (you could use whatever you like)
1/2 cup sour cream
1 teaspoon Dijon or spicy brown mustard
2 teaspoons flour
1/2 cup evaporated milk (could use regular milk)
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Combine ham, onion and chopped apples. Spread in pie crust. Sprinkle on cheese. Mix together the sour cream, mustard, flour, milk, eggs, salt and pepper until smooth. Pour over ham mixture. Bake in preheated 375 degree oven 50 to 55 minutes. Can sprinkle on extra cheese the last 10 minutes of baking if you like. Makes 1 (9 inch) quiche. Enjoy!

Just go breadless with a classic combination when you make Turkey, Ham and Cheese Apple Sandwiches.
Table of Contents
For a long time, this blog was not just recipes but also a record of what was going on in my life. As the focus of my business has changed, readers’ expectations have changed, and demands of the Google gods have changed, so have my blog posts.
Now I really just focus on the background of the recipe, why I am convinced you should make it, and helpful information to ensure it’s easy and delicious.
But I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that, as I write this post, we are in the midst of one of the craziest times the world has ever seen. Let me just say I hope you are all well and leave it at that for now.
And one of the craziest side effects of current circumstances is the lack of, amongst other things, bread on the grocery store shelves.
I have been putting an Apple Sandwich in my kids’ lunches for ages. I’ve actually had these photos on my computer for about two years. Yet I never posted it.
It’s like I was waiting for this exact moment.
How to make a sandwich without bread
Sure, there are plenty of options, like rolls, wraps, and even English muffins. But if you want a wheat-free alternative and aren’t a fan of gluten free bread, then apple slices make perfect little sammies.
They are firm enough to hold in the fillings, but not to hard that you can’t chomp right into it. And the crisp, sweet apple is actually a great flavor and texture contrast to your basic deli meats and cheese, like turkey, ham and cheddar.
Kids love making and eating them. And while I am telling you about one of the most basic combinations, I do share some variations below. Or let your imagination and tastebuds be your guide.
Here is a brief overview so you can see just how easy it is to make. Scroll down to the printable recipe card for the full quantities and details.
But don’t skip my PRO TIPS below!
Ingredients
- Apples
- Mustard – I like the contrast of a nice spicy brown mustard, but you can use dijon, yellow, or even honey mustard.
- Deli meat – I used turkey and ham, but you can just use one or the other
- Cheese – slice some sharp cheddar or use deli slices of American or your favorite that you’ve cut into squares
Directions
- Turn an apple on its side and cut it into slices about one-quarter to one-half inch thick.
- Using a knife, apple corer, cupcake corer, or back of a large icing tip, cut out the core of each slice. If you have a corer, you can do this before you cut the slices.
- Spread mustard on one of the slices, top with one folded up piece of turkey, one folded up piece of ham, and a couple of slices of cheddar cheese from a block or a slice of deli cheese cut into quarters.
- Top with another apple slice.
Depending on the size of the apple, you can get two, or possibly three little apple sandwiches out of it, and you can always cut the rest into slices to snack on.
Brianne’s pro recipe tips
Useful tools
The “hardest” (if you will) part of making apple sandwiches is cutting and coring the apples. So here are a few options:
- Apple corer – if you have one of these, you can cut out the entire core before cutting it into slices.
- Paring knife – not the best option because it can be more dangerous and you don’t get a perfectly round hole (though that’s just about appearance, not taste). But you can just cut ut the core after you cut the slices.
- Cupcake corer – this does work for cutting the core out of the individual slices, but it can break the apple rounds.
- Large frosting tip – use the back of one of these decorating tips, because the thin metal will cut right through the apple.
Variations
- Prosciutto and mozzarella with creamy balsamic dressing
- Roast beef and Greek yogurt blue cheese dip
- Leftover rotisserie chicken and maple dijon coleslaw
- Peanut butter and jelly with peanut butter granola
- Waldorf chicken salad with grapes and walnuts and lettuce
