How to change apple email

Change your Apple ID

If you no longer use the email address that’s associated with your Apple ID, you can change it. You won’t lose access to your contacts, purchases, or other account information.

How to change your Apple ID to a different email address

  1. Go to appleid.apple.com and sign in.
  2. In the Sign-In and Security section, choose Apple ID.
  3. Enter the email address that you want to use as your Apple ID.
  4. Choose Change Apple ID.
  5. If you changed your Apple ID to a third-party email address, check your email for a verification code, then enter the code. Learn what to do if you didn’t get the email.
  6. If you use services like iCloud or Messages to share with friends and colleagues, sign in to those services with your updated Apple ID.

If you can’t change your Apple ID

If you try to change your Apple ID to an @icloud.com email address that was created within the last 30 days, you will be asked to try again later.

If you see a message that the email address you want to use isn’t available or is already in use, check that you or a family member aren’t already using that email address with a different Apple ID. If a family member is using that email address, remove it from their account then try to use it.

In some countries or regions, you can use your phone number as your Apple ID. But if your Apple ID is an email address, you can’t change it to a phone number.

Question: Q: How to change email passwords on iPhone

I recently had to change the password for one of my email accounts. I successfully changed it on the email provider’s site, but I cannot see how to update the password on my iPhone 7Plus / ios 13. Alternatively, I would like to delete this email account and add it back into iPhone using the new password, but cannot see how to do this either.

I recently had to restore my Windows 10 PC. I have had to add in again the email accounts but am having difficulty with my @me.com email account. I have looked at my Apple ID settings and added this in but my Apple ID account username is not the same as the @me.com account. So this fix hasn’t worked for me. Can you help please? I can’t seem to find where the password is for my @me.com account anywhere though it is still working on my ipad.

About your Apple ID email addresses

Learn how to add, change, or delete the different types of email addresses that you can use with your Apple ID account.

Email addresses you use with your Apple ID

Your Apple ID uses email addresses to sign you in to your account with Apple. With your Apple ID, you can access services like the App Store, Apple Music, iCloud, iMessage, FaceTime, and more. We use your email addresses to send you information about your account, and to help friends and family communicate and share with you.

Apple ID email address
In most cases, your Apple ID is also the primary email address of your Apple ID account.

Additional email addresses
Add extra email addresses to your account to help people find you on Apple services like FaceTime, iMessage, and Find My.

Rescue email address
Most people have a notification email address instead of a rescue email address. Apple uses this to send you important account and security related information. If you don’t use two-factor authentication or two-step verification (learn how to check what security method you use), you have the option to add a rescue email address to your account for more security. You can see it when you sign in to your Apple ID account page.

Before you can use a new or updated Apple ID, we’ll send you a verification email to make sure that the email address belongs to you.

Apple ID email address

When you create an Apple ID, you enter an email address. This email address is your Apple ID and the username that you use to sign in to Apple services like Apple Music and iCloud. It’s also the contact email address for your account. Be sure to check your email address regularly. We’ll send you email notifications to help you manage your account and make the most of your Apple ID.

Change your Apple ID email address

Reset your Apple ID password

If you know your current Apple ID password and want to change it, follow these steps on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac. If you’ve forgotten your Apple ID password and need to reset it, follow these steps.*

Get a verification code

With two-factor authentication, you’ll need a verification code to sign in with your Apple ID on a new device or browser. Learn how to get and use the code on a trusted device, or get a text or phone call.

* If you use two-factor authentication, in some cases you might be able to speed up the account recovery process or reset your password immediately by verifying a six-digit code sent to your primary email address.

Additional email addresses

Many of us have more than one email address that friends and family use to reach us. Add an email address that you commonly use to your Apple ID account, so people can easily find and communicate with you on Apple services like FaceTime, iMessage, Shared Albums, iWork collaboration, and Find My.

Add an additional email address

  1. Sign in to your Apple ID account page.
  2. Click Edit in the Account section.
  3. Under Reachable at, select Add More.
  4. Enter your additional email address. Make sure you’re not already using it as an Apple ID.
  5. We’ll send a verification to that address. Didn’t get the email?
  6. Enter the verification code and click Verify.

Delete an additional email address

  1. Sign in to your Apple ID account page.
  2. Click Edit in the Account section.
  3. To delete one of your additional email addresses, click next to the address.

Rescue email address

Having a rescue email address is optional but recommended if you do not have two-factor authentication or two-step verification. If you ever forget your security questions, you can use your rescue email address to reset them. We also send any account security-related notifications to your rescue email address. If you have two-factor authentication or two-step verification, you have a notification email address instead of a rescue email address and won’t need to remember security questions.

Add or edit a rescue email address

  1. Sign in to your Apple ID account page.
  2. Click Edit in the Security section. You might be asked to answer one or more security questions before you continue.
  3. To add a rescue email address:
    • Under Rescue Email, click Add an Email Address, then enter your rescue email address. We send a verification to that address. Didn’t get the email?
    • Enter the verification code and click Verify.
  4. To edit a rescue email address:
    • Select Change Email Address under the address you want to edit, then enter the new address. We send a verification to that address. Didn’t get the email?
    • Enter the verification code and click Verify.

If you had a rescue email address on file when you upgraded to two-factor authentication or two-step verification, you can also use these steps to edit your notification email address. If you remove the notification email, you won’t be able to add a new one.

Question: Q: How to change iCloud email address?

I entered a test address when setting up iCloud, but now cannot find out how to change this to the email I would like with the @me.com ending. Any ideas?

I unfortunately had a typo when entering my email address and after being unable to delete the account tried to register the typo account. Unfortunately the typo account is already assigned to someone. Now I have my iCloud account link to a mail account that is not mine and I have no way of changing these details. very frustrating. Any ideas how to change the email?

I have the same problem. I sure hope it’s possible to edit the email accont associated with my icloud account.

Oct 13, 2011 9:15 AM

Thanks, but I am trying to change the newly created email address that was setup when signing up for iCloud. It is listed under my login with my old primary email address which is tied to my iTunes. The one I want to change ends in the @me.com extension. This is not editable on the iPad, and also does not show up yet as an email under Manage my account. Two emails from Apple already, but they are giving me similar suggestions as you. Maybe I need to wait foe the Beta to end.

I spent over a hour with apple support about this and they say there is nothing you can do. My wife in advartenly attached her email to my icloud and now it can’t be changed. I asked support what would happen with a typo or if I just set it up with someone else’s email and try claim no way to delete or fix it. too bad!

Oct 13, 2011 11:42 AM

I was facing the same issue. I was able to resolve it by going to Settings > iCloud. At the very bottom, there is an option to ‘Delete Account’. It sounds much more dire than it really is. It simply breaks the connection with your device and the iCloud set up for that email. Delete Account, then head back into Settings > iCloud. You will be prompted to enter new information, and your problem should be solved.

Matt’s solution worked for me! I turned all the items (mail, contacts, bookmarks, etc) to off, then hit delete. It let me change the email. Now my brother and I won’t have things sync together due to us both buying apps off my mom’s iTunes account, hence it being the main thing.

Oct 13, 2011 9:58 AM

For the record, you are not allowed to change your iCloud email address once it has been created, now that we all have access to it.

Oct 12, 2011 7:42 PM

Thanks — the first sensible explanation. And it worked.

Jan 24, 2012 12:52 PM

To change your iCloud address, on your iPhone- you can go to Settings > iCloud > Then delete the account. Set up a new one under the iCloud option agian. There is an option to change the extention when creating the account username.

And that way you can also sign into itunes/app store with your @me account and wal la all your accounts and info is your @me account.

Oct 13, 2011 2:03 PM

that is a dang good question, are we stuck with our iTunes / iCloud email? I hate how Facebook doesn’t let you change your email EVER (at least as far as I can tell)

Also, I have 2 or 3 @me.com addresses, I need to merge them so i can access my purchased content from any account.

I don’t know what answers have been previously given in this thread because obviously I’m not going to read through 450 of them to find out. But, as has probably already been stated:

  1. You cannot change the primary @icloud.com address on an iCloud account.
  2. If the ID itself is a non-Apple address you can change it; it it’s an @icloud.com, @me.com or @mac.com address you can’t
  3. You can create up to three additional @icloud.com addresses as ‘aliases’ pre accounts but you cannot use them to log in.
  4. If you have more than one actual Apple ID and thus different logins to different iTunes accounts you cannot merge them. Purchases remain permanently tied to the account which purchased them.

A quick summary:

This threat is about: «How to change iCloud email address?«

  1. I understand that creating a new Apple-ID is NOT an answer to the question of this threat.
  2. This threat is NOT about «Where do I find my iColud @me.com email address on my iPhone.
  3. To this date, there is NO solution found. In other words: When using the same Apple-ID, NO ONE has been able to change his/her iCloud email address so far.

Oct 19, 2011 6:50 AM

Doesn’t work! The only things you can do to change your icloud email is create an alias.

Aug 3, 2012 12:46 PM

DON’T DO THIS guys — DON’T delete your iCloud email or anything like that as it may your stuff out of sync, or cause more issues as many pointed out here.

With iCloud mail you can create up to 3 aliases which become a fully functional email address.

Simply create the one you’re missing and et voila!

To create an alias get to iCloud mail web interface and set it up in settings.

Hope this helps.

Oct 14, 2011 7:50 AM

The solution ‘set-up an email alias’ and just use that is a brower/device solution, But. syncing with windows outlook (set-up sooo easy) i can now only send via primary email address/alias. Very frustrating.

Can’t believe there is not a simple solution/edit for this!! I was checking availability for my kids and am now stuck with my duaghters name as a primary email!!

Oct 19, 2011 5:14 PM

Anyone know where the verification email goes?
