How to change icloud account on iphone

Change your Apple ID

If you no longer use the email address that’s associated with your Apple ID, you can change it. You won’t lose access to your contacts, purchases, or other account information.

How to change your Apple ID to a different email address

  1. Go to appleid.apple.com and sign in.
  2. In the Sign-In and Security section, choose Apple ID.
  3. Enter the email address that you want to use as your Apple ID.
  4. Choose Change Apple ID.
  5. If you changed your Apple ID to a third-party email address, check your email for a verification code, then enter the code. Learn what to do if you didn’t get the email.
  6. If you use services like iCloud or Messages to share with friends and colleagues, sign in to those services with your updated Apple ID.

If you can’t change your Apple ID

If you try to change your Apple ID to an @icloud.com email address that was created within the last 30 days, you will be asked to try again later.

If you see a message that the email address you want to use isn’t available or is already in use, check that you or a family member aren’t already using that email address with a different Apple ID. If a family member is using that email address, remove it from their account then try to use it.

In some countries or regions, you can use your phone number as your Apple ID. But if your Apple ID is an email address, you can’t change it to a phone number.

How to change the iCloud account on your iPhone, and use a separate account for iTunes & App Store purchases

iCloud is part of Apple’s plan to make using Apple devices so easy you never want to leave the Appleverse. Your iCloud account links everything from shared photo albums to Apple Pay to your iCloud backup, across your Apple devices. This keeps all your data safe and secure, even if you switch devices.

If you didn’t sign into iCloud when you set up your iPhone, skip down to «Sign into another iCloud account.» If you need to switch from one iCloud account to another, start by signing out of your iCloud account.

How to change the iCloud account on your iPhone

Sign out of your current iCloud account

Before you sign out of your iCloud account, make sure you have copies of all the information you need that might be stored in this iCloud account. In particular, if you have passwords in your iCloud keychain that aren’t duplicated elsewhere, make a note of those.

To see all your saved passwords, go to Settings > Passwords > Website & App Passwords. Use Touch ID, Face ID, or your passcode to unlock the list of passwords saved in your current iCloud keychain.

When you’re ready to sign out of your iCloud account, here are the steps to follow.

1. Open your Settings app.

2. Tap on your name at the top.

3. Scroll down to the bottom of the next screen and tap «Sign Out.»

4. Choose «Sign Out of iCloud.»

5. You’ll be prompted to tap Sign Out a second time before you’re signed out.

When you set up a new iPhone, you’ll be prompted to enter your Apple ID. This is an email address and password that unlocks your free iCloud account. If you don’t have one, you can create a new account right on your phone.

To sign into a new or different iCloud account on your iPhone, follow these steps.

1. Open Settings on your iPhone.

2. Tap Sign In to [the name of your iPhone].

3. When prompted, type the Apple ID and password that you want to use.

Among other things, your Apple ID is your key to access the iTunes & App Stores. When you sign in, your account will automatically link to both iCloud and the stores.

Sign into a different account for iTunes & App Store

You can also use a different sign in for iCloud and the iTunes & App Store purchases if you want.

1. After you sign into iCloud, go back to Settings.

2. Tap your name.

3. Scroll down and tap iTunes & App Store.

4. Tap your Apple ID.

5. In the screen that appears, choose Sign Out. You will be immediately signed out.

6. Tap Sign In.

7. On the window that pops up, enter the Apple ID and password you want to use for the iTunes & App Stores.

This will keep your phone as a whole signed into one iCloud account, while the iTunes and App Stores are signed into another.

Question: Q: How do I change my iCloud account on my iPhone

I know i’m not the only one who ha the same prb out there, and I read a lots of stuff in the different discussions, but I want to make sure, so let me ask:

my wife and I share the same store account, and somehow when I set up our two iPhones, her iCloud account got attached to my Apple ID. Which obviously is not good, since we don’t want to share all contacts and appointments, etc.

So, I just what to change her iCloud account from my apple ID to hers. How do I do that?

I am thinking to delete that account (settings->icloud->delete account), but i want to make sure this is not gonna wipe out all her data.

Also, I read somewhere on the Apple website that once you have attached your device to an iCloud account, you have to wait 90 days before to be able to change account. Is that true? Or deleting account will do it?

Thanks for your help.

I am sorry to bother you with this stupid question.

Same issue as everyone else and I do think that deleting my email would fix it but I do not know how to delete the account from my iphone. 😟 I went to setting and tried to figure it out but.

Thank you for any help!

My reason for doing this is to have an icloud account that I can use exclusively for my iphone without messing up outlook for mac with another email address. I would llike to be able to use an .me account simply for iphone emails that cannot wait or I need to mail something.

I finally got my iCloud up to date with my new email address on my iPad, but can’t on my iPhone. It keeps wanting me to sign in with an old, nonexistent email and won’t work with any passwords I’ve used. Can’t delete the account because it keeps prompting me to turn off Find my iPhone. And again, it keeps popping up with the old email/ Apple ID with no correct password. Anyone know what I can do? Should I try to reset? And if so, network settings? All settings? Thank you so much for any help!

Go to settings/iCloud and tap delete account. This only deletes the iCloud from your iPhone. It will give the option to save iCloud Contacts and Calendar on the iPhone. You can then login to iCloud using another email id or create a new .me email account.

I believe that the icloud and old mobileME is natively tied to the appleID and that’s the whole point and you will never be able to separate that tie

but I could be wrong

Oct 21, 2011 9:10 AM

Let me re-phrase, because it doesn’t seem that it was clear: on her iPhone, her iCloud account shows my Apple ID. I want to change it to her own Apple ID. How do I do that?

Oct 21, 2011 8:25 PM

My wife and I have two iPhones too, but we share the same iCloud account. However to change the account info:

Settings > iCloud > Account

Also check her: Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Accounts

and: Settings > Store > Apple ID (towards the bottom)

make sure they have her Apple ID

Hope that helps.

Oct 21, 2011 8:30 PM

Thanks Dustoff99, but we do NOT want to share the same iCloud account, as it will merge or two sets of data (contacts and calendars, etc. ).

The account your Store is linked to can be different than the one your iCloud has. So checking the Store account doesn’t really do anything.

All I’m trying to understand is how to change her iCloud account ID: yes, I can go into Settings > iCloud > Account, but it is greyed out, you cannot change it in there !!

So to change it, I’m wondering if I should delete this account (bottom of the page) and re-create another one?

Oct 22, 2011 12:31 AM

Odd, I just deleted (my email to test), and my Apple ID wasn’t greyed out. I suspect you have a genius appointment ahead of you. Just went yesterday for my wifes iPad. 😕

Oct 22, 2011 3:23 AM

I had the same problem, the email was greyed out, all you have to do is delete the icloud account, and you will be able to sign into your new account. The information will not be deleted off of the iphone because you can choose to leave all information on your iphone before actually deleting the account. I used to share an account, but now i have my own. Hope this helped.

Oct 22, 2011 8:16 AM

yep, i agree. I just did the same thing. deleting the iCloud account from ur iPhone does just that, it doesn’t impact on iCloud.com. works like a charm.

Oct 26, 2011 4:54 AM

FYI. You can use different iCloud accounts and use the same iTunes Store account. You may need to change the Store account back to the old shared account after changing the iCloud account.

Oct 26, 2011 6:12 AM

I was just having an issue for the past couple of days because I have all an all new email account. I couldn’t change it on my phone to the new email so it wasn’t backing up, etc. I thought I had a Genius appointment in my future, and wanted to avoid it and finally checked it out here before I did.

Just want to make it CLEAR for anyone who doesn’t know that if you are trying to change the account email address for iCloud on your iPhone 4, at least, you must delete that account from your phone and then sign back in to the account using the new email address. My new email address was already filled out on my phone when I signed back in. so it was really easy. Thanks for the help, everyone.

Nov 1, 2011 10:55 PM

Just to be sure. When you delete the iCloud account from your iOS device and use a different AppleID (thus, a different account) as you guys are describing, the iOS will backup to this new account, correct? So I can have the photo stream (for new photos from this point in time), backups and all the other iCloud features on this new account. Correct?

Dec 14, 2011 7:52 AM

Yes. Everything should be backed up to the new account and your iOS device will be synced to the new account.

Dec 14, 2011 12:38 PM

im having this problem too. i did delete my account to put my icloud under another account but this one says that it wont work because of a high demand. i dont understand

Dec 17, 2011 6:52 PM

I can’t seem to verify my icloud account. it says under the icloud settings on my iphone (3gs) that I must check my email for instructions on how to verify. the problem is that somehow, and I have absolutely no idea how, but my mother’s email is listed as the one to check for instructions, even though my icloud account is under my email address. I deleted the icloud acount and put my email and apple id account information when it prompted and yet it hasn’t changed the instructions. This does not make sense to me nor do I understand where my mother’s email came from, we do not share an apple account or anything of the sort. I want to reinstall the previous IOS because since updating to the latest one my 3GS is much less responsive and the my battery dies twice as fast, I realize the newest software is ideal for the newest iphone models but the ill effects it has had on my 3gs are much worse than I expected. I just dont want to lose anything on my phone in the process of going backwards software-wise. Any clarification would be appreciated thanks.
