Installing apple application support itunes

If you can’t install or update iTunes for Windows

Learn what to do if you can’t install or update iTunes on your Windows PC.

If you downloaded a version of iTunes from Apple’s website, use the steps in this article.

If you have Windows 10, you can also get iTunes from the Microsoft Store. If you have trouble installing iTunes from Apple’s website, download iTunes from the Microsoft Store. If you can’t download or update iTunes from the Microsoft Store, contact Microsoft for help.

If you can’t install iTunes on your Windows PC from Apple’s website, or if you see «error 2» or «Apple Application Support was not found» after you install the software, follow the steps below in order.

Make sure that you’re logged in to your computer as an administrator

If you’re not sure if you have an administrator account, learn how to log on as an administrator.

You can also refer to your computer’s help system, contact your IT department, or visit support.microsoft.com for more help.

Install the latest Microsoft Windows updates

To download the latest updates, visit the Microsoft Windows Update website.

iTunes for Windows requires Windows 7 or later, with the latest Service Pack installed. If you can’t install the updates, refer to your computer’s help system, contact your IT department, or visit support.microsoft.com for more help.

Download the latest supported version of iTunes for your PC

Download iTunes from Apple’s website, then click Download to download the iTunes installer. When prompted, click Save (instead of Run).

If you have Windows 10, you can get the latest version of iTunes from the Microsoft Store. If you get iTunes from the Microsoft Store, you shouldn’t need to follow the rest of the steps in this article. If you downloaded iTunes from Apple’s website, continue below.

Repair iTunes

Right-click the installer that you downloaded in step 3—it will be labeled iTunesSetup or iTunes6464Setup—and choose «Run as administrator.»

If you’ve previously installed iTunes, the installer will prompt you to repair the software.

After the repair is complete, restart your computer and try launching iTunes.

Remove components left from a previous installation

If iTunes fails to install or repair, it might be necessary to remove components left from a previous installation of iTunes and then reinstall.

Songs that you bought from the iTunes Store or imported from CDs are saved in your My Music folder by default. Deleting iTunes won’t delete your music.

Disable conflicting software

Some background processes can cause issues that prevent applications like iTunes from installing.

If you installed security software and are having issues installing iTunes for Windows, you might need to disable or uninstall security software to resolve the issues.

Restart your computer

After the restart, try to install iTunes again.

Get more help

If the steps in these articles don’t help you fix the issue, you might be able to find a solution through a search of the Microsoft support website.

Question: Q: How do I install Apple Application Support?

I am trying to install iTunes on my laptop. It gets all the way to the end, and then it gives me an error saying I need to install Apple Application Support. I have no idea how to get that. Any advice would be appreciated!

Let’s try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.

Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:

Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:

Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select «Extract to iTunesSetup» (or «Extract to iTunes64Setup»). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called «iTunesSetup» (or «iTunes64Setup»).

Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.

Does it install properly for you? If so, does iTunes launch properly now?

If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

I’m having the same exact issue, I did all the steps you said above, but the Apple Application Support installer gets stuck at «publishing product information.» I’m running Windows 7.

The error message says:

An error occured during the installation of assembly ‘Microsoft.VC80.CRT,type=»win32″,version=»8.0.50727.6195″,publicKeyToken=»1fc8b 3b9a1e18e3b»,processorArchitecture=»x86′». Please refer to Help and Support for more information. HRESULT: 0x800736FD

I too get this error message when trying to install Apple Application Support (and also when trying to install iTunes or QuickTime, which both include AAS). The error message appears at «publishing product information», whatever that means.

I am using a relatively new HP PC, with no Apple software previously installed.

Alright, I»m about at the end of my rope with this stupidity.

By some miricle I was able to get iTunes 10.3 to install but AMDS would not install no matter what I did. But at least I could use iTunes. Which turned out to be pretty useless as I have been unable to update anything on my phone for almost a year now.

Today I attempted again to get this going. I downloaded Revo Uninstaller and removed any and all Apple cancer on my system (at least I think I did). Downloaded a fresh version of iTunes64 and extracted to a folder. I then proseeded to install each part individually. This was working great. AAS installed, AMDS installed, Apple Software Update installed, Bonjour64 installed. However, iTunes64 refused to install. It failed instantly saying it encountered an error.

So I decided to use the regular installer now that I had all the other stuff installed. It did the regular stupidity of failing to install each bit (which was fine cause I already installed them) and iTunes did install cause I got shortcuts on my desktop as well as errors when trying to start iTunes after install. Seems when it failed to install the other bits it removed them (thank you apple!). So I proseeded to manually install them again now that iTunes was on my system. They all installed except AAS (Apple Application Support). So now I have iTunes on my system with all but one of the support .msi’s but I cannot install it. But at least my system now recognizes when my iPhone is plugged into my computer and allows it to charge and view the pictures.

Is there perhaps a specific order to either install or uninstall (or both) that may have made it work? I’m tired of this BS to be quite honest.

Question: Q: Apple Application Support is required to run iTunes.

On first execution after a clean install of iTunes 9, this error message:

*Apple Application Support was not found.*

*Apple Application Support is required to run iTunes. Please uninstall iTunes, then install iTunes again.*

Can’t run iTunes. Already reboot, reinstall, blah blah blah. Windows Vista 32.

Helpful answers

I found the solution myself!

1. Download and install WinRAR.
2. Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe icon and choose «Open with WinRAR».
3. Once the EXE is opened in WinRAR, double-click AppleApplicationSupport.msi and when the installer window is open choose «Repair».
4. Done! You can now run iTunes normally. 🙂

OK, this worked for me:

1. Save iTunes install file to your desktop.
2. Disconnect from internet.
3. Disable Firewall/Security software.
4. Run install. Note that it installs Application Support and a bunch of other software this time.
5. Run iTunes.
6. Enable Firewall/Security software.
7. Reconnect to internet.
8. Download Watchmen Director’s Cut post haste.

TY so much for your tip. I was ready to reformat my whole HD.

Sep 11, 2009 8:01 AM

Thank you for this! I did it a little differently. I uninstalled all apple software from my PC (Vista Ultimate). Then I ran the AppleApplicationSupport.msi file. Then I ran the iTunes install. It worked. Before Windows wasl killing the AppleApplicationSupport install causing QuickTime not to run and therefore iTunes not to run.

I was minutes away from formatting my harddrive. I had it all backed up and ready to go. I really did not want to do this, so I searched for a solution again and found yours. Thank you again!

This fix is PC only. Backup your iTunes Library, uninstall iTunes then follow one of the 3 procedures listed below

1. CMD LINE — cmd line to directory containing » iTunesSetup.exe»
Type without quotes «*iTunesSetup.exe /passive /norestart*»

2. Using Batch File — Using 7zip or WinRAR, right click » iTunesSetup.exe» then «*Extract to iTunesSetup*». Using notepad, copy and paste code below then save file as » InstalliTunes.bat» in the iTunesSetup directory containing the extracted files.

*USE THIS ONLY IF QUICKTIME IS ALREADY INSTALLED*
+msiexec.exe /i «iTunes.msi» /passive /norestart+
+msiexec.exe /i «AppleApplicationSupport.msi» /passive /norestart+

*USE THIS ONLY IF QUICKTIME IS NOT INSTALLED*
+msiexec.exe /i «iTunes.msi» /passive /norestart+
+msiexec.exe /i «AppleApplicationSupport.msi» /passive /norestart+
+msiexec.exe /i «quicktime.msi» /passive /norestart+

3. Using VBS file — Using 7zip or WinRAR, right click » iTunesSetup.exe» then «*Extract to iTunesSetup*». Using notepad, copy and paste code below then save file as » InstalliTunes.vbs» in the iTunesSetup directory containing the extracted files.

+’C:\iTunesSetup folder used as an example.+
