I’m having this problem now, ever since I updated to the new iOS 7 on my iphone 4. I’ve tried everything hard reset, soft reset, turning phone off and back on, hitting speaker repeatedlywhile in voice mail but nothig works. This can’t be a hardware issue because up until I updated the software I was not having any issues with my phone. I’ve done the whole cleaning of the ear jack, making sure the phone was not in silent mode, which has never been a problem before. I still haven’t seen anyone with a solution to this problem. Is there anyone out there with one? It’s getting really old having to turn my phone on speaker to have a conversation!!

I have a similar problem. all sounds, mic, speaker, etc work but not during calls. But I cant even hear on loudspeaker! When I receive/make a call when answered it automatically has the speaker on, but no sound. If I click it nothing happens. If I put the volume up nothing happens. If I turn on hearing mode, still nothing.

I have had this on and off.. but since Ios7 there is no solution it seams. No restarting or reseting will do.

Can someone please help, I would love to be able to make calls on the iPHONE!!

i have the same fault after ios 7 upgrade. what was your fix

I had all these same problems/symptoms. If, after receiving an incoming call or having someone pick up on an outgoing call, I hit the speakerphone button then I could complete the call with speakerphone. I spent three hours at the Apple store only to be told it was a hardware issue and that I could live with it or buy a new phone. I decided to live with it but it quickly became a pain to always have to use speakerphone with calls. If you have the same problem-I may have an answer. I tried EVERYTHING I found online and nothing worked for me until I found my answer by accident. I was trying to listen to a voice mail someone left when I realized I had the same problem for VM’s as I did for calls. I hit the speaker button inside VM (upper right corner) so I could at least hear the VM. One day while listening to a VM this way I got really mad and hit the speaker button 4-5 times in a row as I was very angry! It ended on speaker off but as I went to hit the button again I could hear a little bit out of the earpiece! I quickly hit the sound up button on the side of the phone and turned the sound way up and it was working! It lasted about three calls and then stopped working again. When it stopped during a call I tried hitting the speaker button a few times on the keypad during the call but it didn’t work so I finished the call on speaker. As soon as the call was over I went into VM, played an old VM and hit the speaker button there until it started working again. It took about 7 times but did work! This time it lasted over a wekk then I went through the whole process again. This third time has now lasted 2 months and is still working perfectly for me. I know this is long but if it works for anyone else it’s worth it! I don’t know why the speaker button on calls didn’t fix it, only in VM and maybe it will be different for others, but I’m convinced it is some weird software issue and until they solve it, I have this little trick working for me. Good Luck!

I had the same issue and solved it by disabling and later again enabling the Noise Cancelation. This setting can be found via Settings -> General -> Accessibility -> (Hearing) Phone Noise Cancellation.

are you sure restore is gona work?

did you try it yourself?

My solution: I removed my Otterbox cover, and switched on the sound switch on the upper left hand side. It had been moved to an off position — happens with protective covers.

this is only valid for iphone 5. noise cancellation is not an option in iphone 4 and 4s. I still could not find soultion to this problem for my iphone 4. waiting for a new ios update 7.0.3. they may have a fix for this fault. wish if i had the option to roll back to IOS 6.

If you hear no sound or distorted sound from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch speaker

If you can’t hear a person’s voice clearly, hear crackling, hear static, or have issues with sound quality, learn what to do.

Check your sound settings

If your device has a Ring/Silent switch, move the switch forward—toward the device’s display—so that orange isn’t showing. If you’re using an iPad, you can also swipe down from the top-right corner to view Control Center and make sure that Silent Mode is off.

Open Settings > Focus > Do Not Disturb and make sure that Do Not Disturb is off.

Clean your receivers and speakers

Remove all screen protectors, films, or cases from your device. Check the speaker opening to see if it’s blocked or dirty. On iPhone only, make sure that the receiver is not blocked or dirty. If necessary, clean the speaker or receiver opening with a small, soft-bristled brush. Make sure that the brush is clean and dry.

Check the sound on your device

Go to Settings > Sounds (or Settings > Sounds & Haptics), and drag the Ringer and Alerts slider back and forth a few times. If you don’t hear any sound, or if your speaker button on the Ringer and Alerts slider is dimmed, your speaker might need service. Contact Apple Support for iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

Try making a call

If you hear sound, try making a call with your iPhone and turn on speakerphone. On iPad or iPod touch, make a FaceTime call. If you still can’t hear, or hear static or crackling, then your network or reception could be the issue. Try to call again later, or from a different location.

FaceTime isn’t available in all countries or regions.
