Almost as good as it used to be.

. but not quite. A few months ago there was a VLC update that made your users go ballistic. Lucky for me I noticed this before updating and decided install VLC on my iPhone to monitor the app’s rehabilitation while continuing to use the non-screwed-up version on my iPad, where my video library lives. At the time, for me, the dealbreaker was that thumbnails were no longer using whatever frame a given video had stopped on (I like being able to choose my own thumbnail). I just noticed on my phone that at some point this important feature was restored. Great! HOWEVER. what is the need for empty space between thumbnails? And moreover, what is the need for placing the title below instead of upon the thumbnails? Both of these design choices decrease how large they can be and how many can seen onscreen at once. When I compare the library interface of the current version on my iPhone to the non-updated version on my iPad (v3.1.9) I much prefer the old view with them all packed together. Please make this an option in the settings so I can update VLC on my iPad. I’ll continue to monitor the app’s progress on my phone and when it is finally satisfactory again I will upgrade and give VLC the five stars I wish it deserved.

Developer Response ,

Thanks for your detailed feedback!
The iPad keyboard is on our list, especially for those basic playback controls.
An iPhone based remote makes sense indeed, but is a bit more complex to do. It is on our list for the long run, but will not be worked on immediately.

Library management will be greatly improved later this year by a complete rewrite of the current user interface.

To leave a movie to go back to the library during playback, don’t swipe down, but use the pinch gesture.

Vertical Stretch & .srt problem

It’s now March 2021 and I don’t see any update that addresses the issues I’m still having with aspect ratios on my 6S Plus iPhone. I simply cannot buy a new phone with the 16:10 aspect ratio. I was told this issue would be resolved at the beginning of the year. What happened?

Thank for responding to my request for the return of “Vertical” stretch on IOS. But now I’ve discovered a problem with stretching 4:3 aspect ratio to 16:9 on both my iPhone 6S Plus and my iPad mini. A couple of years ago I created .srt English subtitles for Region 2 French Columbo episodes, as you know this 1970’s TV show is in 4:3 aspect. I haven’t watched them for quite a while, when I did the only option to fill the 16:9 screen, is “wide fit” which now cuts part of subtitles off. In the past, I’ve always been able to select 16:9 on either my iPhone or my TV’s remote, right now it appears that most of the aspect ratios are messed up. Please, Please fix this issue. VLC is a great app for studying foreign languages, especially because of the ability to adjust the play speed by 1% increments.

Developer Response ,

Thanks for your detailed report. I can definitely understand the problem and will try to reproduce and fix it!

Version 3.2.0 ruined it

Update: my previous issue was resolved, but unfortunately, I really REALLY wish I could revert back to before I updated to this latest version (3.2.0). Now, TV shows are no longer grouped together, and my video tab just looks like a huge mess! It seems like in this update you spent too much time focusing on how the music part works, especially for a VIDEO player. I never really understood why there was a music option anyway to be honest. I don’t like the new playlist system because as someone else said, the main screen is still wicked cluttered. Also, when I tried to just put a tv show into its own playlist, they are all kinds of out of order and no way to organize them. BOO. This does not feel like an update, but a way to turn the video player into a music player. So now I have no way to get files off the main screen, no way to group episodes of a tv show together, and I have to hunt and hunt through all these video files to find what I’m looking for, but boy. that empty music section sure looks fancy.

Now the app no longer responds to my touch. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling but to no avail. I don’t know how to use an app on a touch device that doesn’t respond to touch. It is useless now. Too bad because it was the reigning champ of video players for so long.

Obviously Perfect

A critical part of the Apple experience beyond elegance in design, beyond product reliability, and beyond integrity in handling those rare occasions when support is needed, is simple thoughtfulness. The facility of use, the intuitive UI, and the ease and simplicity of discovering more and more commands effortlessly is what makes the Apple experience what it is. This is at the root of the deeply held loyalty of Apple customers.

This app is an extension of the Apple experience for purposes of buying from Apple. Nothing bad, nothing surprising, it just works as you would expect it to. Perfectly.

Disappointed

I tried to order some apple products this past Black Friday weekend with no resolve. I tried to pay for the items in my cart using Apple Pay which has my debit card, two different credit cards, and my one-week-old Apple Card. All cards have a close to zero or zero balance and work for reoccurring monthly payments as well as recent purchases at my regular grocery shopping. I spent over 2 hours on the phone with over four different phone calls with three additional apple employees. I figured there were issues with Apple being overloaded with Black Friday/Cyber Monday orders on Saturday, so I tried Sunday and again on Monday. I tried all my Apple Pay payment options and always got “Payment Not Processed.” I made sure my iOS and Apple store app were up to date. I deleted and reinstalled the Apple Store app. I restarted my phone—all of which the Apple employees had me do again over my phone calls with them. So Thursday and Friday, the apple store didn’t work. I invested in the Apple ecosystem to not deal with tech issues. I invested three extra hours in helping Apple become aware of its problems and get more orders. I missed out on the $25 Black Friday gift card, and this issue still isn’t resolved within this version of the Apple Store app and my iPhone 12 Pro Max. I wish someone would help me as much as I have helped apple become of this issue.

Don’t recommend

So on October 12 I ordered AirPods through the apple online store expecting really good service well NO I ordered them on October 12 and it said they would arrive around oct 20-22 well It took longer than that and I was like ahh it’s probably just late days pass and pass so it’s nov first and I had to do some so I contacted customer service through service wanted to save time and was attended really well but I told him my order was taking longer than what it was originally supposed to be I wasn’t trying to make a big deal he said yea my package got lost and he would REPLACE it for a new pair. I check my order status and it says I have to return air pods in order to get a replacement but wait I never even got my AirPods so I was tired of it and callled customer service and this guy was very RUDE about and said he couldn’t find my billing order so I was really frustrated about that. Later that day I called again because this wasn’t okay anymore so I called and this really nice lady helped me out and omg my billing number was there so she helped me out and today I received my stuff but don’t recommend it’s too much of a problem for a simple object not worth it don’t purchase from here just go to the store. Some guy from customer service was sooo rude l

Description

Owned and run by the NHS, the NHS App is a simple and secure way to access a range of NHS services on your smartphone or tablet.

To use the NHS App you must be aged 13 and over and registered with a GP surgery in England.

You can also access NHS App services from the browser on your desktop or laptop computer. Go to www.nhs.uk/app

Use the NHS App to:

• get your NHS COVID Pass
• get advice about coronavirus
• order your repeat prescriptions
• book and manage appointments at your GP surgery
• get health information and advice
• view your health record securely
• register your organ donation decision
• find out how the NHS uses your data

If your GP surgery or hospital offers other services in the NHS App, you may be able to:

• message your GP surgery, doctor or health professional online
• consult a GP or health professional through an online form and get a reply
• access health services on behalf of someone you care for
• view your hospital and other healthcare appointments
• view useful links your doctor or health professional has shared with you
• view and manage your care plans

View and share your COVID Pass for places in England that have chosen to use this service and for travel abroad.

Get information about coronavirus and find out what to do if you think you have it.

See your available medicines, request a new repeat prescription and choose a pharmacy for your prescriptions to be sent to.

Search for, book and cancel appointments at your GP surgery. See details of your upcoming and past appointments.

Search trusted NHS information and advice on hundreds of conditions and treatments. You can also answer questions to get instant advice or medical help near you.

Securely access your GP health record, to see information like your allergies and your current and past medicines. If your GP surgery has given you access to your detailed medical record, you can also see information like test results and details of your consultations.

Choose to donate some or all of your organs and check your registered decision.

Choose if data from your health records is shared for research and planning.

After you download the app, you will need to set up an NHS login and prove who you are. The app then securely connects to information from your GP surgery.

If your iPhone or iPad supports Touch ID or Face ID, you can use it to log in to the NHS App each time, instead of using a password and security code.

“I am genuinely delighted that I am able to book a GP appointment on my phone at a time when it suits me. I even got an emergency appointment within the hour by just looking on the app! I have also successfully booked and cancelled blood test appointments, ordered a prescription and registered to be an organ donor.”

“Best health app I’ve used. Easy to use and has all the functions I require. Great the NHS has produced such an innovative app.”

“I found the registration super easy and quick. I have booked an appointment through the app which was so much easier than waiting on the phone to my GP. I have also now become an organ donor.”

Incomplete medical info

I just downloaded this app without any problem at all, very straightforward as long as you have everything on hand. However, was disappointed when I check my medical information as only the medication I had in the past and current including allergies are showing. I had 1 surgery and handful of tests prior to that such as blood test, xrays, scans etc, but was never shown. Maybe it’s not important for them , that’s why it was never shown on my medical record. Also, I was expecting that it could help made booking online with my GP easier , but still, I have to call my GP to book appt as no booking available in this apps.
Not useful in my opinion, it only show the things you already know. I mean , you already know your details, your nhs number, your medication (if you have one) . whats the point! What we need here is to make booking appointment accessible, and to have our detailed /complete medical record. Is it too much to ask?

Developer Response ,

Hello! We are very sorry to hear you are not quite happy with the NHS App. With regards to your medical records, in the first instance you should only be able to view your Summary Care Record, which is a basic view. It is the decision of your GP to allow you access to your full records. Please contact your GP to request it. Also due to COVID-19 your GP might has switched off their online appointment. Please call your practice to arrange one. Thanks

Disappointed: Incomplete and therefore of little value

I’ve had conversations with NHS digital stretching back nearly 3 years. Apple, for example, were using HL7 of FHIR and if the NHS did so we could have everything (and I mean everything) on the Health App. As they do in the US and elsewhere. But yet again they set about developing their own app. Just like test, track and trace tried with some weird but unachievable ambition to collect our data and hold it centrally! All this app does is display, in an even less useful format, some of those records held by my GP. Other records, scans, letters, hospital details and reports aren’t available. A previous reviewer raised similar shortcomings but the reply just brushed him off. Even Patient Access allows a graphical display of test results (if you’re lucky and they’ve have been given identical titles). GPs have little time and less interest in my health than I do so I, along with many others, would like ALL our records in the same format and accessible by me. It is after all my data! Please stop re-inventing the wheel and direct your energies to ensuring ALL medical records are FHIR compliant for single source Smartphone access. Now wouldn’t that be really good in an emergency as we all have our phones on us even if we’re injured/unable to speak/immobile etc..

Developer Response ,

Thank you for your feedback. We are very sorry to hear you are disappointed with the NHS App. The NHS App is owned and run by the NHS, and is a simple and secure way to access a range of NHS services, such as ordering a repeat prescriptions or booking a consultations. By default, you can view your summary care record (SCR) in the NHS App. It shows information about allergies and adverse reactions, medicines, and your NHS number, name, address and date of birth.

Your GP decides whether to give you access to more detailed information in your record. To request full access to your detailed coded record, please contact your GP surgery.

Very good app- still in development

I fail to see why people are criticising this app. Easy to set up. It is clearly a work in progress and will be added to as we go along. Just being able to book an appointment takes so much pressure off the surgeries. Yes, reasons are limited at the moment but I’m sure as time goes on it will be populated more. Just think only a short while ago we had nothing like this and it’s very clear to see people (as they always do in the nhs) are working hard to make it work and I’m confident it will. Just think for all the neurotics, you can look up any ailment without being bombarded after with google adds, a big plus. The point about more medical information is quite right, I should think the surgery (gp) will need your permission to fully release what they are allowed to so thats something you personally need to deal with. I’m well impressed with it and it will get better. I’m sure in time all hospital correspondence (appointment/reminders) etc will be geared through this app. Just give it time. Bravo Zulu to the NHS 👍
