Apple File Conduit «2» (iOS 11+, arm64)

Works on any arm64 device running iOS 11 and higher.

This is a modified version of saurik’s original AFC2 code that downloads and installs an arm64 copy of afcd (required on iOS 11 and above) straight from Apple, and then automatically grants it the necessary platform-application entitlement required for functionality on KPPLess jailbreaks (like Electra and Meridian).

As a result, this package does not illegally redistribute copyrighted Apple binaries.

In compliance with saurik’s original code being licensed under GPLv3, source code has been released above at the GitHub link.

saurik’s original explanation of what AFC2 is

AFC stands for «Apple File Conduit» (or at least so says TheiPhoneWiki), and is how computer applications such as iTunes and iPhoto can read and write files from your device over USB.

AFC is «jailed» and only allows access to «media» (such as photos, music, and data for apps from the App Store).

This package creates a new service, «AFC2», with full filesystem access.

If you use a USB device management tool, it might need AFC2 to fully work.

Historically, getting full (not «jailed») filesystem access was core to the idea «this is a jailbreak». However, due to security concerns, modern «jailbreaks» now avoid installing AFC2 by default.

Please understand that AFC2 is considered by many to be a security hole: you might not want to provide full USB filesystem access.

Some AFC2 setups, in particular many that were installed by default with older jailbreaks (such as evasi0n for iOS 6) set a flag that allows this access to not require a «trusted» USB connection :/.

Installing this package will correct that mistake, and is thereby more secure than the «stock» from-jailbreak AFC2 configuration you may be using now.

AFC2 is GPLv3-licensed. See LICENSE for more information.

About

Allow full file-system access over USB for all arm64 devices, especially useful for those on iOS 11 and above.

Apple File Conduit 2 updated for iOS 13 [DOWNLOAD]

Apple File Conduit 2 has been updated for iOS 13 firmware. Here’s how you can download and install AFC2 on iPhone/iPad.

Table of Contents

What is Apple File Conduit 2?

Apple File Conduit 2 unlocks filesystem access over USB on Windows or macOS on jailbroken devices. Originally developed by Saurik, the project is now maintained by Ichitaso.

Though you can still access the root folder through SFTP, AFC2 makes it way easier for the user to access the device’s root filesystem.

It’s fully plug-and-play, so all you have to do is connect your device via USB.

For those who don’t know, there are other similar tools around like Unrestr1ct0r and House Arrest Fix.

However, these unofficial alternatives break iTunes sync or grant partial access to app containers or directories. If you are using any of these tools, be sure to uninstall them before you install AFC2.

Why is root filesystem access important?

Root access allows you to poke around your device’s filesystem (core folders and sub-folders).

You can use Apple File Conduit 2 to fix a corrupt installation of Cydia, change your resolution, and replace the icons, ringtones, or other stock files.

Moreover, root access over USB is relatively easier since you don’t have to deal with SFTP or SSH utilities, which require a certain level of expertise.

While you may not use this feature daily, it’s a lifesaver if your device ever gets bricked after you install a bogus tweak or mess something up.

Requirements

  • A jailbroken iPhone, iPad, or iPod
  • iOS 7-13 firmware
  • A computer running macOS or Windows
  • Apple File Conduit 2
  • USB cable

How to install Apple File Conduit 2 from BigBoss repo

Installation

Step 1 First and foremost, remove any conflicting tool or utility from your device. This will make sure your device will not experience any errors down the line.

Step 2 Launch Cydia and head over to the Search tab.

Step 3 Input Apple File Conduit “2” and select the very first result that comes up. The official version of this package is available only on the BigBoss Cydia repository.

Step 4 Tap Install, then Confirm the installation and respring your device once it’s done.

As of the time of publication, the developer tested this AFC2 on iOS 13.7 and the following package managers:

  • Cydia 1.1.36
  • Sileo 2.0.0b5
  • Zebra 1.1.12
  • Installer 5.0b9

Set up your device

Before you access the filesystem, you must grant the necessary permissions to your computer. Setting your device up beforehand and downloading the necessary tools will ensure your PC gets unfettered access to your device in the future.

Step 5 Connect your device to your computer or laptop.

Step 6 Tap Trust when your iPhone or iPad prompts you to trust the computer.

Step 7 Download and install iFunBox utility on your computer or laptop. If you are using a MacBook or iMac, open the DMG file and move it to “Applications”. For those of you who are on Windows, run the setup and add a shortcut to iFunBox on your desktop.

If you use the Linux operating system, you are out of luck as iFunBox is incompatible with it.

Access the root filesystem using iFunBox

Step 8 Go to Applications and launch iFunBox. If you are on Windows, launch the utility from your desktop.

Step 9 Select the Raw File System option from the sidebar to access the root folder and its sub-folders. If it doesn’t work on your device, restart the SpringBoard.

Step 10 (Optional) Unlike other tools, iTunes syncing works splendidly with Apple File Conduit 2. To check if it’s working, open iTunes and check if it’s able to sync your device properly.

If you run into issues with Apple File Conduit, feel free to leave a comment below.

Apple File Conduit 2 for iOS 10/10.1.1/10.2 [DOWNLOAD]

A lot of users are unable to use their device with unofficial tools. To do this, you must install Apple File Conduit 2 fist. Here’s how to do it.

Table of Contents

What is Apple File Conduit 2?

Apple File Conduit (AFC) is the “link” between applications such as iTunes and your iOS device. It allows these programs to read and write files from your device through a USB connection.

However, it doesn’t grant complete access. It only allows access to media files like photos, music, official App Store applications data.

This is where Saurik’s Apple File Conduit 2 comes in. It creates a new “link” called AFC2 that grants complete access to the filesystem.

If you are using a device management tool, it might require AFC2 to work.

Why do I need Apple File Conduit 2 for iOS 10?

Jailbreak tools no longer come bundled with AFC extensions. It is required for programs such as iFunbox, DiskAid, and AnyTrans. So if you want to use any of these programs, you should install the AppleFile Conduit “2” Debian package from Cydia.

It is also useful in case you need to manually remove tweak files.

Apple File Conduit 2 is recommended for users that really use this functionality. If you think you are good without it, there’s no need to install it.

Now on to the tutorial.

How to Install Apple File Conduit 2 on iOS 10/10.1.1/10.2

Step 1 Launch Cydia application.

Step 2 Search for Apple File Conduit “2” debian package.

Step 3 Install Apple File Conduit “2”.

Step 4 (This step is optional) To use Apple File Conduit 2, you must reinstall it each time you reboot your device. This happens because the daemon doesn’t start automatically. This is where AFC 2 iOS 10 fix comes in. It fixes this issue and you will no longer need to reinstall it after rebooting. To install it, add this repo https://apt.enduniverse.com/cydia/

Step 5 Install AFC 2 iOS 10 fix.

Step 6 Reboot your device.

Now you can easily use programs such as iFunBox with your device. Don’t run iFunBox unless your iOS device is connected to the computer.

If this method doesn’t work on your iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 plus, here’s what you need to do.

How to Install Apple File Conduit 2 on iPhone 7/7 Plus on iOS 10.1.1

Step 1 Open Cydia and search for afc2add.

Step 2 Exit from Cydia, start it once again and install Apple File Conduit “2”. Once you install this package, afc2add will get deleted automatically.

Step 3 Install AFC 2 iOS 10 fix as given above.

Step 5 Reboot your device.

It should work now. If it still doesn’t work, restart your device and run mach_portal application.

If you get the “size mismatch” or Cydo code (1) error, refresh your sources.

Remember, it might not work every time due to a bug present in Yalu jailbreak and backboardd daemon. Once Yalu jailbreak comes out of beta, AFC 2 should work as usual.

I want to 10.2 iOS download

Hi! I entered in the new repo but Cydia says did not find repository. What should I do. I am new to this.

Which repo did you add?

Hi Luca
Re https://yalujailbreak.net/team-vexation-repo/ Cydia cannot Find Repo. Any thoughts? Thanks

Hello, Gordon. Try adding it again, it’s up now.

Step 3 Install AFC 2 iOS 10 fix as given above.

where to get this? this is no longer available at https://apt.enduniverse.com/cydia/

Hello, Geoff. Here’s the new repo – https://yalujailbreak.net/team-vexation-repo/

Thanks for the quick response.. 🙂

hi @YaluJailbreak:disqus i have done every single step but still ifunbox has not detected my iphone being in a Jailbroken state? What can I do?

What are you trying to accomplish with iFunBox?

i want to do USB Tunnel and share my LAN connection via USB SSH.

Background about my iphone. its an iphone 6s wand was originally jailbroken ever since Yalu came out. However due to tweaks compatibility my device was sent to a bootloop. Unfortunately i don’t have any idea to what caused the bootloop so i decided to do “OSRestoreXTerm” which wiped out my entire device (geez i have no backup. stupid me). So i re-jailbreak my device once again with BlueYalu (https://loftynine7.github.i…. I have been dding through the internet and have not found any solution to mine. Please help. Thanks! 🙂

Try the method for iPhone 7 given above.

Still no luck.. its still showing as (Jailed) on ifunbox.. 🙁

Try rebooting your PC.

Done.. Still detecting it as (Jailed). I have also removed and reinstalled ifunbox but still, similar results..

Make sure the “Emulate Jailed Device” option is turned off. Try reinstalling after each reboot.

Presto.. That solves it.. Sorry for getting to you back late. But that solves it all.. THANK YOU SO MUCH. Your an iOS GOD.

So glad to hear that. iOS God, LOL! Just been dealing with iOS since 2009 so needless to say I have quite a bit of experience with all things jailbreak 😉

You have been a saint!

Yes, I have installed the modified mach_portal IPA countless times! It didn’t seem to make any difference; I have also run the MTerminal CydiaSubstrate “fix” command countless times.

I finally took the plunge and used iFile to install the Cydia “firmware-sbin_0-1” file. (It turned out to be a reinstall). Once I did that, Cydia had no problems with any updates. It seems quite happy; I still have not installed any tweaks.

But after three days (!) of this whirlwind, I still cannot install Apple File Conduit “2”; I still get the same error:

subprocess new extra-installation script returned error exit status 1

Now that Cydia is healthy again, I will start all over again tomorrow afternoon, assuming there is enough sunlight to recharge my battery bank (I am a monk, camped out in the wilderness of Utah, US, after a bad hiking accident–or so I’m told 🙂 .)

This has been a rough ride!

That’s great, Richard! Glad you got it working. Try again and see how it goes. Be sure to report back. Good luck.

Please feel free to ask many questions as you want to. I will be happy to help.

Thanks for such an invaluable site!!

I have been trying for hours to get Cydia to install Apple File Conduit “2”, but keep getting errors. Any advice would be appreciated. Here’s the log:

Hello, Richard. Have you tried refreshing your sources?

Yes, Luca, repeatedly,; thank you for your response. I carefully followed your instructions, including refreshing my Cydia sources! Thoughts?
P. S.: iPhone 7 Plus, iOS 10.1.1

Hey Richard, are you getting this error with other tweaks as well?

No, Luca. All other tweaks seem fine; I can send the (small) list if that would help. (I am using MTerminal to fix the Substrate.)

Do you have Coolstar’s Stashing installed?

I think Cydia’s filesystem must be corrupted. I suggest you use the modified mach_portal to fix it – https://yalujailbreak.net/mach-portal-not-installing-cydia/

I used to have a working jailbreak . . .

Cydia Impactor (0.9.41 ) wouldn’t copy the modified mach_portal over, so I deleted the original mach_portal, thinking there might be a conflict with two apps on the iPhone at the same time.

Now Cydia Impactor won’t copy either .ips file over.

All I get is the dbox asking for my password, and then a dbox saying “your password is only sent to Apple”

Then _nothing_ happens

It worked perfectly the first time I tried a few days ago.

How can I get the original mach_portal back onto my iPhone??

Was the modified mach_portal not sideloading with Impactor?

Can you use SemiRestore10 Lite?

If not, then use this tutorial – https://yalujailbreak.net/accidentally-deleted-cydia-ios-10/. This will repair your Cydia.

Getting the error (in iFile):

dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of cydia:
cydia depends on dpkg (>= 1.18); however:
Version of dpkg on system is 1.14.25-10.

I haven’t found a site where I can download a latest version of dpkg

Sorry for the bother, and thank you!

No problem. Please feel free to ask as many questions as you want to. Please try using SemiRestore.

🙂
Well, not quite to bed yet!
I followed your link using SSH, and Cydia 1.1.28 b14 is now on my iPhone 7+!
> Please try using SemiRestore
I did!
Cydia still wants UIKit Tools >=1.1.4.
When I try to install UIKit Tools 1.1.12, Cydia refuses with:
Depends firmware Luca April 1, 2017

Try OSRestoreX now. It will clean all jailbreak+user data though. Your device will be restored to stock while still staying on the same iOS. Follow this tutorial – https://yalujailbreak.net/osrestorex/

You can then re-jailbreak your device easily with Impactor and mach_portal after that.

Thanks, Luca, but OSRestoreX’s page now states:

Update (March 31) – Refrain from using this tool for the time being. Any stock application that has been modified by a Cydia tweak will be removed by the tweak. Wait for an update.

All I really need to do is to install UIKit Tools 1.1.12. Is there _any_ shell script I can run? Many of the other updates run in MTerminal just fine.

Since you have already used SemiRestore by CoolStar, you can use OSRestoreX now. Try it and report back.

Grrr. My reply had a link in it, and seems to have been wiped, I trust you got it!
Bless you!

Hello, Richard. Yes, I have read your question. The best way to fix these errors is by installing modified mach_portal IPA. May I ask why aren’t you able to install it?

I installed Order 66 Substrate Fix for Yalub3 and Cydia is no longer on the iPhone and the two mack–portals do not bring it back.
Going to bed!
