Скандальная облога и зажигательный музон: Mom’s Apple Pie, 1972
Сегодня поговорим о далеко не топовой команде, игравшей тем не менее интересный и мощный хард-рок и брасс-рок. У группы из Огайо всего два альбома в 72-73. Это дебютный.
Альбом далеко не редкость на виниле — при желании вы можете легко купить его в добротном состоянии за 15 долларов. А вот если достанете CD, то будете обладателем довольно редкого экземпляра. Единственный раз этот альбом в 2015 году выпустила на компакт-диске компания из Лихтенштейна Hifly Sound Anstalt.
В группе играли аж 10 человек: Bob Fiorino (Vocals), Bob Pinti (Vocals), Dave Mazzochi (Keyboards, Vocals), Joe Ahladis (Guitar), Bob Miller (Guitar), Greg Yochman (Bass), Pat Aulizia (Drums), Roger Force (Flute, Saxophone), Fred Marzulla (Trombone), Bob Pinti (Trumpet). Главный автор – Mazzochi.
На альбоме есть две чужие песни: I Just Wanna Make Love to You Вилли Диксона и Mr. Skin Джей Фергюсона из репертуара Spirit, которым эти ребята (как и Uriah Heep) явно подражали. В целом получилось зажигательно, здорово.
Бонус на посошок
А у нас последняя песняра нашего музпроекта — «Луки на фоне ковра». Последняя на сегодняшний день, потому что скоро будут новые :)))

Apple Pie Recipe
We all know that nothing is as American as apple pie. But did you know the recipe did not originate in America?
The first apple pie recipe to be found on paper goes back to England and the year 1381. The recipe was printed by Geoffrey Chaucer and included apples, figs, raisins, pears, and a pastry shell, but no sugar. After the first recipe was revealed, it spread through Europe. Evidence of Dutch apple pie recipes date back to the 1600s and included lemon and cinnamon and sometimes raisins and icing.
The recipe wasn’t introduced to America until the 17th and 18th century when it was brought overseas by English, Dutch, and Swedish settlers. Apple pie became synonymous with American culture during World War II. At that time, when soldiers were asked why they were fighting the war, a popular answer was ‘For mom and apple pie’. That response secured the dessert’s place and status in American history.
Simple Apple Pie Recipe
There are many variations on the apple pie. France’s version, the tarte tatin, is a caramelized, upside down version of the dessert that was created by accident by a hotel owner when she was trying to make a traditional apple pie in the 1880s.
Other variations include Apple turnovers which originated in Germany. Torta de miela is an Italian version a bit like an apple torte with layers of lemon cake at the bottom.
Because there are so many things you can do with the apple pie recipe, the possible ingredients you can add are endless. Let’s start by looking at the ingredients added in a classic apple pie.
Well, it really can’t be an apple pie without fresh apples. Some may start with a pre-made apple pie filling but let’s agree right here and now that it will not take the most discerning taste buds to call this one out. The filling needs to be made at home starting with Jonagolds, Honeycrisp, Braeburns or whatever type of apple is currently in season.
Growing up, it basically was not allowed to have apple pie without ice cream. I’m happy to carry on this delicious apple pie tradition with my family
Fresh Apple Pie Recipe and Ingredients
Another necessary ingredient will be the crust. Again, this is a component that can be store bought or homemade. For many home cooks, the thought of making a pie crust can seem overwhelming, while others insist it’s just not an apple pie without this unless the crust is made at home. We’ll choose to be politically correct and say, you decide what is best for you.
It can’t be an apple pie without a crust and apples, but every chef knows it is the seasoning that truly makes the dish. Nutmeg and cinnamon are commonly added to give the pie a warm, rich taste. Those who are more adventurous may consider adding cardamom and allspice. Apple cider vinegar, bourbon, vanilla and even raspberry jam are other ingredients that can take the taste to the next level.
If you want to make a variation on your pie, other ingredients can be added. Caramel is commonly used. Nuts like pecans are also great additions. And let’s not forget about adding whipped cream or ice cream to the top!
And while it’s always great to experiment with various recipes, the classic apple pie we have featured here will take all of us back to that truly wholesome taste of America.
You don’t have to make your apple pie look this fancy for it to taste good. Do what you want with the crust and enjoy it all the same
Using fresh apples, a homemade pie crust recipe, and the
perfect blend of spices; this is the apple pie that is true delight in every
forkful. It is fit to be served at just about any table and brings the goodness of home cooking to life. Don’t wait for the holidays; try making this dessert for your family tonight!

Mom and apple pie
How long is the pie good for?
There is an expiration date on the label. However, if you refrigerate or freeze your pie upon arrival, your pie will last much longer. Mom’s does not use preservatives.
How big are the pies and breads?
The pies are 9 inches in diameter and weigh 2 to 2.5 lbs depending on type. The breads are 8 inches long.
Do you make other items?
Yes, there are several seasonal pies we make which appear on our website when available. Additionally, each of our store locations make their own specialty items such as cream pies, cookies, cakes, and quiches.
I am ordering a large number of pies for my office. What should I do?
If you are ordering a lot of pies (from 20 to 500+), please call us at 703-771-1243. Please note that we do not offer price breaks on large orders.
How do we get started? Should our information exchange be done via email, website, or phone? Please email us at mom@momsapplepieco.com.
What size pies do you have? Our standard size pie is 9”.
Do you have recommendations for how many pies we might need? Yes. We recommend a 6 or 8 slice cut for each 9″ pie. Sweeter, richer pies (pecan, chess) can be sliced in 8 pieces. If pie is the only dessert, we suggest 6 slices per pie. If there are other finger foods, an 8 slice cut works just fine.
Do you offer pie tastings? We do not do formal tastings. However, both of our locations (Occoquan and Leesburg) have slices available for purchase at $3.75 per slice.
Can you suggest which varieties we should choose? Certainly. We consider time of year when recommending pie flavors. Some pies are especially seasonal and always a great bet (i.e. fresh, in-season Strawberry Open-Faced Pie in May and beginning of June). The type of wedding or event sometimes dictates flavors; for instance, pecan and apple are great for a picnic-style wedding where Almond Chess with fresh whipped cream would be more appropriate for a sit down scenario.
Do you offer discounts for large orders? As a small business, family owned and run, all pies are made by hand in in small batches. Discounts start at over 175 pies of a single variety.
How much notice do you need for an order? Turnaround can happen in as short as 2-3 days, but we prefer at least 5 days notice.
How far do you deliver? What is the cost? We charge a flat rate of $40 to deliver within a 20 mile radius of our Leesburg store.
Do you encourage delivery or pick up? We encourage you to pick up! Often guests are looking for a way to be helpful and picking up the pies can really fill the bill. Not only will you save $40, but you also provide an outing for your visiting guests!
What is special about Mom’s pies? Mom’s Apple Pie is a local family run bakery based on fruits and vegetables grown on our Loudoun County Farm (15 minutes from our Leesburg Store.) We make our fresh pies from scratch using real butter and flour in the crust and our own farm grown fruits for filling when available.
What are the do’s and don’ts or special instructions when picking up pies for weddings? What about reheating? Mom’s pies are typically baked in the morning, so we recommend a late morning/early afternoon pick up. If you need to pick up early morning, we will bake the afternoon before to avoid traveling with pies that are not completely cooled. If there are catering facilities at the wedding site, the pies can be reheated pies in the oven at 350 degrees for about 20 minutes. Pies are most easily sliced when they are cool.
Is a contract required when placing wedding orders? How do we pay? We will generate an invoice for you based on your initial email order. We can change the order as you get closer to W Day and receive final counts. You can pay for the order from your computer anytime, but we need payment by 5 days prior to the event. You are welcome to send a check instead of an internet payment.
What other products do you offer for weddings? Finger foods? Our most requested finger foods for weddings are mini brownies, lemon bars and macaroons. We are happy to discuss these items with you.
Can you slice the pies for us? We do not slice the pies ahead of time as they tend to travel better intact. If you have more people than expected, this will also give you more flexibility to accommodate extra guests when slicing. Besides, «The Slicing of the Pie» is wonderful entertainment during the reception — have the groomsmen each don a pie slicer and serve the bridesmaids first!
Do you provide serving platters for presentation purposes, i.e. buffet style wedding? We do not provide serving platters. we suggest you work with your catering service if that is your preference.
We need to have a contact phone number for pre-wedding and a day-of-wedding number as well. (We have been given the wrong address for delivery, the wrong time for delivery, told they were being picked up when someone else thought they were being delivered, etc.) Things can get crazy on the big day and we want Mom’s Pies to be your Rock of Gibraltar through the storm! Because, let’s face it, even if everything else goes to heck in a hand basket, eatin’ pie with your best friends at your wedding is unforgettable and fun!

Motherhood and apple pie and mom and apple pie
Motherhood and apple pie and mom and apple pie are two versions of an idiom. An idiom is a commonly used word, group of words, or phrase that has a figurative meaning that is not easily deduced from its literal definition. Often using descriptive imagery or metaphors, common idioms are words and phrases used in the English language in order to convey a concise idea, and are often spoken or are considered informal or conversational. English idioms can illustrate emotion more quickly than a phrase that has a literal meaning, even when the etymology or origin of the idiomatic expression is lost. An idiom is a metaphorical figure of speech, and it is understood that it is not a use of literal language. Figures of speech like an often-used metaphor have definitions and connotations that go beyond the literal meaning of the words. Mastery of the turn of phrase of an idiom, which may use slang words or other parts of speech common in American slang or British slang, is essential for the English learner. Many English as a Second Language students do not understand idiomatic expressions and idiomatic language such as hit the sack, spill the beans, let the cat out of the bag, silver lining, back to the drawing board, barking up the wrong tree, kick the bucket, hit the nail on the head, face the music, under the weather, piece of cake, when pigs fly, and raining cats and dogs, because they attempt to translate them word for word, which yields only the literal meaning. English phrases that are idioms should not be taken literally. In addition to learning vocabulary and grammar, one must understand the phrasing of the figurative language of idiomatic phrases in order to know English like a native speaker; it is helpful to maintain a list of phrases, common expressions, colloquial terms, and popular expressions to memorize that are used figuratively or idiomatically. We will examine the meaning of the common saying motherhood and apple pie or mom and apple pie, where it came from, and some examples of its idiomatic usage in sentences.
Motherhood and apple pie is an American idiom that means the core beliefs of the people of the United States; the most cherished values of the people of the United States; or the most deeply ingrained characteristics of the people of the United States. The expression motherhood and apple pie became popular after World War II. The original expression, mom and apple pie, was a phrase popular among American troops fighting in the war. When an American soldier was asked what he was fighting for, his answer was often, “Mom and apple pie.” The answer was so ubiquitous that the phrase was incorporated into the simile, as American as mom and apple pie. The term was co-opted by advertising agencies in the 1960s and turned into the idiom motherhood and apple pie. When used as an adjective before a noun, the idioms are hyphenated, as in motherhood-and-apple-pie and mom-and-apple-pie.
Criticising the campaign is like saying one is against motherhood and apple pie, Emily Kenway writes, before comprehensively unpicking the hypocrisy that runs through much of the government’s work in this sector. (The Guardian)
But the shocking revelations about this once revered motherhood-and-apple-pie institution have drastically slashed nationwide membership from a peak of about 4 million back in the ’70s to fewer than 2 million active Boy Scouts today. (Examiner-Enterprise)
We all know that party platforms are traditionally about mom and apple pie—but at least they tell us the party is in favor of apple pie rather than cherry pie. (Brookings Institution)
“It was almost subversive to use the most mom-and-apple-pie, all-American of mediums, the marching band, to open minds,” she said. (The Atlantic)
