OnePlus 6 and 6T owners receiving the gift of a new update this holiday season
Not bad for phones from 2018
It’s hard to imagine, but it’s been more than three years since the OnePlus 6 and 6T hit the market. A couple of generations before the company dove headfirst into flagship pricing, both phones represented some of the best value Android devices that year. Although neither phone is receiving attention as often as it once did, OnePlus has made a new software version available on the heels of its Android 11 update earlier this year.
Amazon’s latest fitness tracker is down to just $50 ahead of next week’s launch
A perfect stocking stuffer
Fitness trackers are perfect for anyone looking to improve their health and wellness without the unnecessary bulk and bloat of a smartwatch. While companies like Fitbit lead the pack, Amazon is looking to make a big splash with its latest wearable, the Halo View. It’s not out until next week, but you can already save $30 on it — the perfect stocking stuffer ahead of the holiday season.
Samsung’s November 2021 security update is hitting more devices in the US

Put those pumpkins away and bring out your string lights, because it’s finally November. That frosty chill in the air doesn’t just mean the holiday season is on the way — it also means it’s time for another round of updates from Samsung. A week after international patches arrived on phones, the first set of devices is receiving new software stateside.
All the new movies and early theater releases you can watch at home right now
There’s plenty to watch at home these days, and we’re rounding up the best (and worst) streaming movies and theater releases for you.

Google’s latest awesome Pixel wallpaper collection celebrates the people with disabilities in our lives
Available now for the Pixel 3 and later
Google’s been doing nothing less than nailing it lately when it comes to wallpapers, and we’re not even talking about the beautiful magic that is Material You. Pixel phones have access to a stunning assortment of exclusive wallpapers, and today we get a look at the latest set, as Google shares some super-colorful designs that celebrate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
Looks like your relatives are going to ruin Google TV recommendations for you this holiday season, after all
Multi-user profiles are likely delayed into 2022
Not everyone who lives together has the same taste in entertainment, which is why apps like Netflix and HBO Max offer individual user profiles for each account. Google TV was set to add profiles in November, but if you’re rocking a Chromecast, you’ve probably noticed they aren’t live just yet. Unfortunately, if you’ve been expecting to take advantage of separate accounts ahead of the holiday season, you shouldn’t expect them any time soon.
Your next friend request might be from a debt collector

Debt collectors: they’re dead set on keeping tabs on you, even when you’d rather not deal with them. In fact, they want to be your friends. And now they legally can be.
Samsung drops another One UI 4 beta update for US Galaxy Note20 users
Is a stable release just around the corner?
If you’re one of the millions of Samsung Galaxy Note20 users out there, you’ve had access to the One UI 4 beta for a few weeks now. As with any prototype software, the new Android 12-based software has faced its fair share of bugs. As we get closer to the upcoming stable release in January, we’re beginning to see many of those issues addressed.

JerryRigEverything puts the Fairphone 4 through the wringer
We won’t do it to our phones, but you do you
Fairphone has an enviable reputation in the smartphone industry as one of most sustainable OEMs out there (The Fairphone 2 launched in 2015 with Android 5 and is still receiving updates). Its phones are designed to be dismantled and repaired by the end user, prolonging the useful life as long as possible. Its latest model, the Fairphone 4, has struck a remarkable balance between quality and modularity. But how does it hold up to abuse?
Google brings the full YouTube app experience to your older Chromecast
Complete with a handy virtual remote
Read update
Google finally turned the Chromecast into a fully-fledged streaming box last year, complete with an all-new interface and a dedicated remote for navigating through menus and apps. Of course, millions of old-school Chromecasts are still plugged into the backs of TVs. With a new update, Google is making YouTube work more like an actual application — a major change for how these receivers usually work.
Here’s the fix if you can’t play Rocket League Sideswipe on the Pixel 6
Don’t worry, it’s an easy solution
Read update
Earlier in the month, we learned that Psyonix was planning to release its mobile sidescrolling interpretation of Rocket League on mobile across the globe. This rollout started with a few territories and has finally expanded to the US and EU, completing the worldwide launch for Rocket League Sideswipe. Amazingly, the game is great. I went hands-on with the title back in March when it was still in testing and came away pretty impressed, and I’m a diehard Rocket League player that plays on PC every night, so I’m not easily swayed. Not only does the core gameplay of hitting giant soccer balls into goals with cars hold up in its sidescrolling form, there’s no monetization yet, which means the only way to earn in-game cosmetics is by playing the game. No matter how you slice it, Psyonix has hit this one out of the park.

Samsung’s December 2021 security patch is already hitting Galaxy phones internationally

Samsung’s November 2021 security patch now hitting even more Galaxy phones internationally

One UI 4 beta program arrives for the Samsung Galaxy S10 series
The Android 12 beta rollout continues
Samsung has been on a roll with its Android 12-based One UI 4 update. The Korean smartphone giant has already released the stable One UI 4 build for the Samsung Galaxy S21 series worldwide. It is also currently beta testing the update for several more devices, including the Galaxy Z Fold3, Flip3, and Note20 series. Now, a day after the Galaxy Note10 series jumped on the One UI 4 beta train, the company has announced (via TizenHelp) the Android 12 beta program for its 2019 Galaxy S flagship: the S10 series.
YouTube for Android adds new listening controls for easier music playback
A handy little feature, but it’s exclusive to Premium subscribers
YouTube Premium subscribers get a number of worthwhile perks, such as add-free content, downloads, and access to YouTube Music. There are also a number of smaller exclusive features that enhance the experience, and this latest one fits into that category. If you’re listening to music in the YouTube app, you’ll now be able to bring up new controls that make it a little more like a dedicated music-streaming app.
Nest’s holiday doorbell ringtones have arrived, no subscription needed
Come on, get into the holiday spirit

Netflix keeps up its Android gaming momentum with three new titles on the Play Store
And one of them is called ‘Knittens,’ so you know it’s gonna be good
Gaming might’ve started as a hobby for Netflix, but it’s clear the company’s been taking it pretty seriously lately. Since the program launched worldwide last month, it’s already added several new games. With today’s update, three more are coming to the Play Store exclusively for Netflix subscribers to try out.
The FTC just tossed a wrench into Nvidia’s plans to acquire ARM
Turns out this deal is as anti-competitive as everyone assumed
We’ve been hearing about Nvidia’s attempts to acquire chipset maker ARM since last year, but thanks to some not-so-surprising concerns from the US government, the purchase has yet to be made official. After both companies confirmed in October that the ongoing antitrust probe was far from complete, it seemed like the deal’s future was murky at best. Now we know the conclusion of that investigation: an FTC lawsuit meant to put an end to the sale.
