Awesome app, reliable service, outstanding developer
I have been using Pushover for more than a year to receive critical alerts for work. I go on call once every three weeks and this app has never let me down. The feature that I like the most from the paid service is that I can create an application with its own email address and set up my alerts to go to that email address. Any of my devices running pushover can then receive that alert. The service itself is far more configurable than that but for the sake of brevity I will keep it short. Also one of my other favorite things is the API. We are going to be doing some very interesting things with alerts that require acknowledgment. My biggest request is that Superblock LLC would add a third type of alert (level 3?) that has an approve/deny response instead of a simple repeat alert until acknowledged. I would like to be able to push approve/deny workflow items to my phone and be able to capture those responses on the backend or with a postback like I can with level 2. It would also be great if the repeat frequency of the level 2 and 3 alerts could be configured.
A+ exactly what you are looking for!
as a network engineer (and somewhat coder), I
frequently get very important alerts I have to be able to depend on arriving. Well some of the software I use has companion apps that allow me to be a notification to get notifications via push messages, I was looking for a bit more flexibility and customization.
This app/service is perfect! I was able to quickly migrate some of my alerts by using the custom email address they give you. overtime I’ll upgrade (on my end) some of these alerts from using email to using a more reliable HTTPS API method (with email as a fallback).
I can’t believe the service is five dollars for life as I’m sure that rate will go up at some point but either way it’s a great service (I paid up as soon as I got my first test alert).
Apple Watch notifications are unreliable
This app works great for notifications to my iPhone but my associated Apple Watch notifications are often delayed and/or unreliable. I have my home automation system pushing these notifications and my phone gets every one of them and almost instantly. The Watch only gets some of them and often delayed. I use many other apps with watch notifications without issue so it is not a communication or settings problem. I can have my automation hub send the exact same notifications to pushover and it’s own app and my iPhone will get both notifications at the same second. My watch gets the automation app notifications also at the same second, the pushover notification comes sometimes at the same time, sometimes a few seconds later and sometimes never. This app is literally the only one that I have the problem with. I have reinstalled both the phone and watch app and tried all combinations of Bluetooth, WiFi and Cellular connections with the watch and the phone . nothing fixes this issue.

Ratings and Reviews
Great app but a couple of missing features
Im a dev so I know these kinds of requests can get annoying but there are a couple of things holding the app back from the best possible rating.
The app is great. You can schedule notifications and edit everything about them, including image and sound. I think it will fit most people’s use cases as a five star app.
But for me, I have a different schedule during the weekdays than the weekend. I’d really like to be able to schedule notifications to repeat some days during the week, but not others. Right now notifications can repeat every day, or can be scheduled weekly on one day. You could create 5 different notifications, one for each weekday, but it would be simpler to be able to select the days of the week I want the notification to repeat.
The second feature I would like is to be able to test a notification after it was created. Right now I need to wait until the scheduled time to see it. Now I know what it would look like, but I’d like to craft the notification text after seeing it as a notification.
Thanks for the great work on the app. Looking forward to seeing further updates.
Developer Response ,
Thank you so much for writing this out and no worries, I’m always incredibly happy to receive more feedback regarding the app.
Adding notifications for specific days is a feature that has been frequently requested and is currently being worked on for release in a future update soon.
Allowing the testing of notifications in real-time isn’t something that has really been brought up before but I think it’s a great idea. I’m going to look into adding this feature either in the update accompanying the ‘specific day’ notification update or in a standalone one that’ll be released sooner.
Again, thank you so much for the feedback, I really appreciate in depth reviews and new and interesting ideas that sound like they’d be great additions. Feel free to reach out if you have any more feature requests or feedback!
Helpful, but.
Pros
——
• You can make custom notifs
• Works as said
• Very customizable
Cons
——
• Scheduling issues (read details)
Suggestions
——
• More scheduling options (read details)
• Say how much notifs you can make in Basic
Details
——
This app is neat. As I said, you can easily create notifs. But, as everyone said, there’s not enough scheduling options.
Sometimes I want a one-time use notif. I have to delete it afterward. Sometimes I want a notif for several, but not all days. I have to make multiple notifs or ignore it on other days. Devs should make it so that you can do multiple days.
Also, sometimes I want to have notifs on for a specific time but not others. Like, I might have a “Start being productive!” notif only when I’m not being productive. I want it to go off every 15 min. I delete it when I be productive. Then I have to remake it when I’m not productive. It would be easier to have an enable/disable function.
Also, sometimes I make the body too long so that it doesn’t show up when it fires off. Maybe make a character limit so it won’t go to long.
I still would reccommend!
Needs one feature to be perfect
This is really useful, but I wish there was a way to schedule/activate notifications. When I’m working I like to be reminded to stretch and take breaks, but I don’t need that 24/7. I wish there was a way to make a notification active only during a certain time frame, or a way to turn them on and off without having to delete them when you’re done.
