Connecting a controller

To connect a SHIELD TM accessory, your SHIELD’s light should be flashing.

If the SHIELD TV light is not flashing, touch and hold the power button on the
SHIELD until the «connect accessory» screen appears on your TV.

Make sure your controller is unplugged, and then touch and hold the NVIDIA
button until it flashes. The controller should connect after a few moments.

If the button did not flash, please charge your controller and try again.

With an existing controller or remote, or with your new controller plugged into your
SHIELD TM TV, open the «SHIELD accessories» app on the SHIELD TV home screen and
select «Pair an accessory».

This is a full precision controller with support for both PC gaming and Android gaming on SHIELD devices. It has two joysticks, a D-pad, ABXY buttons, L/R bumpers, L/R analog triggers, a multi-function Start button, Android Home and Back buttons, a volume control slider, and a voice search button (NVIDIA button).

Yes. Open the SHIELD accessories settings from the SHIELD TV home screen. Select the SHIELD Controller you wish to configure. Select «Swap Start and Home buttons».

If you are actively using a SHIELD Controller, the SHIELD accessories app will report which one controllers are connected and which one is «active» (in current use).

You can also rename each SHIELD Controller. Select the controller you wish to rename, and select «Accessory name». This name will stay with the SHIELD Controller, so if you connect it to another SHIELD device it will continue to be listed with the new name.

WHAT HEADPHONES AND HEADSETS WORK WITH THE SHIELD CONTROLLER?

The included 3.5 mm headphone jack supports headphones with stereo audio (3-pin) and headsets with combined stereo audio plus microphone (4-pin). When headphones are used (3-pin), the internal microphone will be available for use. The Micro-USB port on SHIELD controller does not support headphones or headsets.

HOW DO I ADJUST THE VOLUME USING SHIELD CONTROLLER?

SHIELD Controller provides a touch-sensitive region between the joysticks that acts as a volume control slider. Sliding up will increase the volume, and sliding down will decrease the volume.

Note that if you have enabled IR mode for controlling your audio-visual equipment, then you need to ensure the SHIELD Controller is pointed directly at the equipment and without obstruction.

On your SHIELD TV, you need to navigate to the Display & Sound settings, then Volume Control settings. There you will see a toggle switch to enable and set up on IR.

This is a simple process. All software updates for the SHIELD controller are directly pushed out by NVIDIA. You’ll see a notification on your SHIELD devices when an update is available. Once you confirm, the system will automatically download and apply the update when you have sufficient battery life.
