One Bite Apple Pie Tarlets

Last week I posted about the delicious Apple Pie Cinnamon Rolls I made, and I had some ingredients left over from that recipe that I needed to use up. I hate wasting food, so I knew I could use the left over apples and cream cheese glaze for something tasty. It just so happened that I had these cute little Phyllo Shells in the freezer and I thought they would be perfect for this! I was right, and these are super delicious and easy to make. They would make the perfect fall dessert at a brunch or party. They would pair great with a seasonal beer or light white wine. I can’t wait to make them again because they are super cute and delicious!
The overall time to make these little treats is relatively quick, too, about 25 minutes including prep time! I have also put these in the fridge, and warmed them up the next day and they taste just as great!
I would definitely recommend these for a party or get together, just heat them up right before you get there or after the party starts. I love these things and they are so cute and seasonal!
Like Apples? How about trying out these Apple Pie Cinnamon Rolls!

Apple Pie Bites
Apple Pie Bites are great for breakfast or dessert. Use Pillsbury Crescent Rolls and fill with apple pie filling to make these muffin-sized delicious pies.
Apple Pie Bites
Pillsbury’s crescent rolls, in themselves, are an amazing snack and make for a great, bready side-dish with plenty of dinner entrées . What Pillsbury likely didn’t expect were all the recipes that found creative, new uses for their crescent roll dough . Whether served up or as an ingredient, I’ve struggled to find anyone who doesn’t enjoy the flakey, buttery goodness of a crescent roll .
We’re no strangers to crescent rolls here on the site- we’ve already used them in a number of recipes. We’ve used them in our simple Apple Dumplings and a delicious Caramel Apple Cream Cheese Crescent Ring in the past ! Both of those recipes are amazing examples of just what you can do with some apples and a few cans of crescent roll dough .
This time around, we’ve found another easy recipe that’s incredibly delicious but still super simple ! You just need to reach for your favorite muffin pan- that’s right: muffin-sized apple pie bites! All topped with a tasty little glaze.
These little apple pie bites are an amazing treat to have for either a sweet breakfast or a little evening dessert . If you’re more a fan of cherry than apple, we’ve also put out some Cherry Pie Bites before that might be right up your alley.
I’m certain all of you with love this fun little recipe. With the autumn season on the horizon, many of you will be coming back to this recipe. That’s because once you try these sweet little pie bites, you’ll never have just one!
Ingredients for Pie Bites
How to prepare our Apple Pie Bites
Before getting started on this recipe, you might find it necessary to cut your apple pie filling down into smaller chunks . We want our filling to be comfortably stuffed into our dough later on. A quick, rough chop with a kitchen knife should do the trick.
Once you’ve got that filling taken care of, it’s time to get started. Turn your oven up to 375 degrees and allow to preheat while you get your bites ready. To make sure you can remove your bites from their tins down the line, spray your muffin pan down with cooking spray.
After cracking open your crescent roll dough, roll it out and separate it. You’ll take the triangles of dough and drop them into each of the cavities in the muffin pan.
From there, you’ll be adding your filling. It’ll probably come out to about a tablespoon of pie filling per pie bite. Though, no one’s going to complain if you add a little extra…
However much filling you add, you’ll be sealing your pie bites by folding the ends over top. Start with the two shorter ends of the dough that are sticking out and then fold the longer end over those two.
Now comes the baking: pop those pie bites into the pre-heated oven and allow to bake until they looked lightly-browned . Should take around 15 minutes. Once those finish baking, pull them from the oven, set them aside to cool, and prep a simple glaze using your milk and powdered sugar .
Drizzle your glaze over your pie bites once they have cooled down. With that, your pie bites are ready to eat. That wasn’t so hard, was it? Easy as pie!

Flaky, crispy phyllo cups filled with cinnamon apples with a touch of bourbon and topped with airy whipped cream and a drizzle of decadent salted caramel. These Easy Apple Pie Bites are like mini apple pies minus the all the effort!
This post was originally published in November 2016. I edited the photos and updated the post below to include more information about this Mini Apple Pies. Plus, I added a recipe video to show you how easy this apple pie dessert is to make!
Hi friends! Annnnnd, the countdown to Turkey Day continues!
Seriously, I cannot believe it is in exactly one week! How are you guys doing with that 411? Excited, anxious, stressed? Or are you the champion of holidays and feeling cool as a cucumber?
Honestly, I’m feeling quite relaxed about the whole thing. But, I’m kind of cheating. You see, Boy and I have decided to go out to dinner for Thanksgiving. Again. 🙂
We went out last year and honestly it was one of the best decisions. EVER.
Easy Apple Pie Bites
AKA Apple Pie minus all the fuss PLUS a touch of booze!
Or you can just call these bad boys, mini bourbon apple pie bites of deliciousness.
Either one will do. 😉
Flaky, crispy, delicate phyllo cups filled with cinnamon-y, sweet, barely boozy and tender-crisp apples; topped with light and fluffy whipped cream and decadent, rich, sinfully delicious salted caramel.
Seriously, these boozy apple pie bites are like WHOA.
But, they also couldn’t be easier to whip together. Dessert hack to the rescue!
Simply caramelize some diced apples in a bit of butter with a few seasonings like cinnamon, nutmeg and brown sugar. Add the bourbon and let the apples cook until tender. Add in a slurry (cornstarch + water) to thicken the mixture a bit and viola. Apple pie filling done.
Then you just fill the phyllo shells with the apples, top with a bit of whipped cream and drizzle with salted caramel.
Bodacious lil’ bites of apple and bourbon heaven for your face stuffing pleasure.
Who invented apple pie? Where did apple pie originate?
Shockingly (to me anyways) apple pie wasn’t invented in America. The first recorded recipe for apple pie was written in 1381 in England by Geoffrey Chaucer.
The original recipe by Chaucer included apples, raisins, figs, pears and a pastry shell, san sugar.
Can apple pie filling be frozen?
Yes! Traditional apple pie filling, as well as this mini apple pie bite filling, can be frozen!
To freeze the pie filling, simply prepare the recipe below as instructed from step 2 to 3. Allow the apple filling to cool completely before transferring it to an airtight container. The apple pie filling can be stored in the freezer for up to six months.
How to make the best Easy Apple Pie Bites (Notes, Tips & Tricks):
- Baking the phyllo shells prior to stuffing them is completely optional, as the shells have already been baked before packaging. I baked mine because I like the added crispness.
- You can peel and dice your apples in advance to save prep time later. To prevent apples from turning brown mix 1 teaspoon of kosher salt with 2 cups of water and store your diced apples in the salt water (covered and refrigerated). Before using them, simply rinse and drain. You can easily double the salt water mixture if needed.
- The apple pie filling can be prepared in advance, and stored, covered in the refrigerator. If you prepare the filling in advance, skip the baking option in note one and spoon the cold filling into the shells, then bake the bites for 10 minutes or until the filling is warm.
- If you want a more prominent bourbon flavor in your apple pie filling, you can increase the amount to ½ cup.
- You should be able to find phyllo shells in the frozen food isle of your grocery store. In stores near me they are located with the frozen fruit and puff pastry sheets.
Easier than pie (and cuter too), these Boozy Easy Apple Pie Bites are perfect for your holiday gatherings!
Until next week friends, cheers – to thirsty Thursday in mini pie form!

Lots of us non drinkers who knows most of the alcohol cooks off…just really can’t have it, so apple cider only alternatives? Your recipes are delicious. Thankyou , much happy Blessings to you!
Hi Laura!
Great question! While I have only made these apple pie bites as instructed in the recipe, I don’t see why you couldn’t substitute the bourbon for good-quality apple cider! I would also add a splash of real vanilla extract to bring out the warm flavors. If you try the recipe with the substitution(s), I’d love to hear how it turns out!! Cheers and warm wishes for a wonderful rest of the week!
I plan to make these for Thanksgiving but how can I make these without the bourbon? My father in law can’t have any alcohol. Look forward to your suggestion!
Hi Ali!
The alcohol in the bourbon burns off, just like any other alcohol when you cook with it. While I’ve only made these bites with bourbon, you could try using apple cider. Obviously the flavor will be altered, but more than likely still delicious! Let me know if you have any other questions! Cheers!
What an excellent idea to serve apple pie. Yummm!!
Interestingly, I do remember almost all your recipes from the past, but I don’t recall this one (And since I even left a comment 2 years ago, I couldn’t miss it). I don’t mind, though. It gives me that feeling when you meet something exceptionally good first time ever, and needless to say these mini apple pies are exceptionally delicious. Did I deserve a pie or two please? 😉 Happy (official) autumn!

Apple pie isn’t actually American? That’s crazy! Good thing we’ve made it our own because it wouldn’t be the holidays without apple pie! These little bites are so perfectly cute and I love that they’re small so I can eat several and feel like I’m indulging even more. Have a great week, Chey!
I love easy little bites like these Chey! Finger foods are so perfect for parties and these totally fit the holiday bill. Plus, we get to enjoy more than one and not feel one bit guilty about it! Happy Monday!
Great suggestions. I need to start thinking about the dishes will be served in the Christmas party for my childrens and their freinds. I always end up doing that at the last minute. So I feel really fortunately when seeing your recipe. My children love apple too much and they must be happy when I bake this apple pie for them.
Oh this is so dangerous! Not only did you combine apple and bourbon, but you made them bite-sized! I can see it now, my just popping these little beauties into my mouth one right after the other before I realized I’ve eaten the entire tray! We’re going out for dinner too this year. After all, being a food blogger and trying to plan Thanksgiving meals all month to share, means we’ve been eating Thanksgiving meals all month too! Hope you guys enjoy your dinner out 🙂
I’m just hosting a small mini-meal for just a few of us – but, Cheyanne, am so loving yours and boys idea of going out! You are spot on – I too have made and enjoyed most of my sides at this point – but gotta remake some of ’em. My daughter suggested we fly off to NYC and spend Turkey day there and catch the parade like we did when she was 7 – and eat Thai – but last minute T-day tickets to the Big-Apple cost a kidney + heart! Yikes!
Speaking of apples… gosh – you have your appetizer game down! This is epic-ness indeed! I think I could skip the sides and turkey and feast on your appetizers ALL day!
I love that you two are going out for Thanksgiving, Chey. I wish we were too, in a way. But in another way, I’m looking forward to our trip to PA and seeing my Aunt Pinkie and lots of the rest of the extended family. She is 83 and I just love her. Sure hope we don’t get stuck in traffic though. I did some reading up and this particular Thanksgiving will be the most traveled on the roads since 2007. I think fewer people are flying and that means clogged roads. So my extended family in New England has decided we are all driving to PA ON THANKSGIVING DAY! Sure hope we don’t run into unexpected traffic or even worse, have car trouble. That would be fun with all the kids. Not. You and Boy have a lovely Thanksgiving, look forward to hearing all about it. I love these little boozy pie bites. Cute and easy and delicious. Nicely done my friend. Have a beautiful Thanksgiving. XO
I’m hosting Thanksgiving because I always do. lol It’s not a huge crowd this year…only 12 people so there’s that. I think you made the right decision, because so true, we food bloggers have Thanksgiving before the actual holiday every year. You’re not cheating! I wish you a wonderful Thanksgiving and these apple pie bites look scrumptious! I love the bourbon addition!
Love everything about these mini pies. Perfect for Thanksgiving when you want a bite of everything! I’ll be cooking ad hosting Steve’s family this year so the prep starts today! But, i actually love it because my family leaves me be in my happy place!
Amen is right!! These look amazing. And that crispy phyllo with those tender, brown sugary, boozy apples is a delectable combo! I’ll take a dozen! Take care.
Amen sista! This looks great… thanks for the easy how-to lesson. I am planning on going up to Sacramento, Ca with my family next week and this seems like the perfect recipe to execute (we are a large family of 20 hungry tummies). These adorable sweets will go a long way!
You know you had me at bourbon! What a delightful little treat, Chey… that would def get me in trouble. I tend to pop way too many little petite fours into my mouth when I have access to them :0 . Hooray for going out and taking a break! I’m right there with ya my dear. I have family comin in town and will be hosting breakfasts, drinks, snacks several days but for Thanksgiving, it’s all relaxation and enjoying what the chefs prepare! Hooray! Yall have fun! I’m takin the whole week off! Yahoo!
All the bourbon and cute little apple pie bites for me! I’d go out to dinner with you guys if I lived closer or I’d have you over for dinner (where I would cook all the food and clean all the dishes) 😉 We are heading over to my sister & brother in laws’ house for turkey day and then we are having friendsgiving at our house the next day. Truth: friendsgiving is more fun than regular Thanksgiving because you can get drunk and not care about offending anyone. lol! Happy Thanksgiving to you and Boy.
You know… I just looove your boozy recipes Cheyanne 😀 You make most fun dishes and desserts, you know! This mini apple pie with touch of bourbon looks fantastic and it sounds like perfect no-kids-weekend treat. I’ll save this recipe! Have a great weekend friend :*
I would love to go out for Thanksgiving! No days of preparation and more days of cleanup sounds amazing to me! Good for you guys for making it happen! We are hosting this year and have lost count of all the people coming. We’re headed to Costco tonight to get 2 turkeys. I’ve got to keg my 10 gallons of home brew tonight to make room in the fermenter so the turkeys can defrost in there! I wish I had some of these boozy mini apple pies to pop while I’m doing all that work because they look so cute and yummy! Pinned!
I’m a huge fan of bite-sized desserts. I can eat more than one without killing my waistline. These little beauties are perfect for Thanksgiving, a perfect upgrade to apple pie. I am ordering Chinese Food on Thanksgiving, and I don’t feel bad about it at all! I have no husband, no kids, this might be my last Thanksgiving where I’m totally free, and I want to take full advantage of it.
Love these mini apple pie bites, Cheyanne. I’m not sweating the Thanksgiving hustle since I just need to bring a dessert – hmmm…maybe these bites! But I so looking forward to Thanksgiving – my favorite holiday! Hope you have a wonderful one with Boy!
We are going to Thanksgiving at my brother’s house, and as usual, I am in charge of the mashed potatoes, which I make with lots of Irish butter and cream cheese because THANKSGIVING! Although I am super tempted to make a platter full of these gorgeous little apple bites too! Happy, happy, happy Thanksgiving my friend – I’m grateful to be blogger friends with you! xoxo
Perfect looking bites, I am sure I would love them. We don’t have the phyllo in mini here, so I will have a bit more work with cutting the large sheets. But I am sure it’s worth it!
Ben Maclain says
Hah, like your point about being a food blogger and developing recipes (and apparently, devouring some festive food). I’ve got a feeling you might have had enough Thanksgiving deliciousness, and thinking (or maybe making?) about Christmas now. Tell me I’m wrong! But these fancy apple bites! OMG. And bourbon? OMG! We need a potluck, Chey. You’ll bringing these lovely bad guys, and will eat them all:) Well, if you think I need to bring in something as well…okay I’ll grab my ice cream and we’ll pair it with these bites. Sounds good?:)
A no fuss dish like this sounds perfect to me! I’m hosting 18 people this year and I’m cooking everything so I’m excited, anxious and stressed, lol! My plan is to have everything done ahead of time so that I can actually relax and enjoy on the big day! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
AMEN! I’m rather liking your thought pattern on going out to dinner. I was just volunteered at Dave’s family’s dinner to cook the night before for 16 people and I wanted to go up and just chill. The big day should be fun though and I can’t wait to go up outside of Portland to visit family, laugh and scratch and have a good time. Hiking is a must as is eating. Like you, I have made and done Thanksgiving 3 times now for the site… ahh the life of a food blogger, right? These little beauties would do me good right about now! Lovely Chey. 🙂
P.S. You know I loves the phyllo cups!
Girl, I feel you!! When I got the invitation to a family friend’s house for Thanksgiving this year..I was incredibly relieved. Don’t get me wrong, I love Thanksgiving, but when you’ve been prepping turkey, stuffing, and pie all month long, you can totally do without one more day of it lol. These little apple pie bites are darling though! I love phyllo and don’t use it nearly enough as I should
Oh my goodness, what a perfect little bite. These look great, Cheyanne! As for as Thanksgiving goes, I cook the same thing every year. They won’t let me switch it up! But the big news this year is that all the grands will be here. Four of the cutest little faces you’ll ever see. 😀 Have a great Thanksgiving with that boy of yours.
Oh gosh, someone announced on facebook a few days ago that Thanksgiving is next week and I had a mini heart attack. Wasn’t it just two second ago that we were preppin’ ice cream and complaining about the heat?? Goodness gracious! Dude, going out for Thanksgiving sounds awesome! Yep, us food bloggers have been enjoying thanksgiving for three months now. Lolol. Okay, what am I gonna do for the big day–besides drooling over your bites? Hmm, nope, can’t think of anything! 😉 Spending some quality time with Erik and eating… probably working. Let’s face it! And totally bugging my bestie. Ahem. 😉 Happy early Thanksgiving my dear! xo Pinned, of course.
Big old AAAMMMENN to these simple, sugary goodies. And you put alcohol in there, so how can I not love them? I may not be able to wait till Thanksgiving. This week has been a doozy — I need some boozy (apple caramel bites).
An amen to that! Boozy apples are the BEST and I love these little poppable bites, Chey! Since we’re extra far from home this year, we’re actually going to a pot luck Thanksgiving dinner at a friend’s and I’m really excited about it! I hope you guys have a great dinner out, that’s such an awesome idea 🙂 I was just telling the hubs how we still have like three more T-Day dinners to eat this week from all of the blog cooking so I feel ya! Pinned! XOXO
Um, so don’t tell, but I don’t love the Thanksgiving main meal as much as I do the appetizers and desserts. And maybe the stuffing! These little bites look like everything I could ever want in the world – mini and dessert!! I’ll take like a billion, please and thank you 🙂
I was at the grocery store yesterday and was specifically looking for these or the puff pastry dough and my searches came up dry. Maybe everyone already beat me to it orrr I’m just the worst at locating fun and delicious food items at the store and am too stubborn to ask for help. I’m sure it’s a combination, lol.
This year the fiance and I are Thanksgiving hopping from my family’s gathering to his – I am going to be so full. I envy your low-key Thanksgiving!
This looks like the perfect Holiday treat..I love how you put thirsty Thursday into this little treat with some Apples(one of my favs). Not really stressed about the Holiday..I’m kind of a last minuter and will just go with what feels right when I get there. Going out to eat sounds like not such a bad idea 🙂
Soooo I literally finally sat down yesterday and made my menu for turkey day … and now you have me reconsidering my dessert plans!! I so want to make these!! Bourbon + apple pie. Yes, just so much yes. The in-laws are descending here soon … maybe I should just bust out the bourbon on its own.. 🙂 Oh family!!
Well these are precious! Love the flavors and the adorable presentation! We’ll be spending Thanksgiving day with Dom’s family – eating a traditional Lebanese Thanksgiving dinner…then celebrating on Friday with our brood at home for our traditional meal. My kids are making me! 😉 I’m sure your day will be splendid! We went out to dinner one year and we loved it! Have a great weekend, my friend! Cheers!
To tell you the truth Chey, I have no idea what we’re doing yet! This year it’s just Tom and I. Sean will be working in Charleston and Casey will be in Ann Arbor. Getting stuck in bumper to bumper traffic is not my idea of fun either, so a nice cozy dinner for just Tom and I, either in or out will be perfect. And these fabulous apple pie bites would make for a perfect dessert for the two of us. You know I’m not the pro at pie crusts so these are just my speed! And add some bourbon and I’m in heaven! I’ll NEED to make these for Sean for Christmas though because apple pie and bourbon are two of hive faves! Happy weekend! XO
You say bourbon and you know I am coming running! These cute little apple pie bites are the PERFECT dessert after a huge meal! Or just any ole night of the week 😉 I am pinning and can’t wait to make them soon!!
I don’t think you’re cheating at all. You’ve already done Thanksgiving dinner, it was just spread out over the course of the month. 😉 So go out, order, enjoy! XO
Oh yum! These tiny apple pie bites look so divine, Cheyanne. Love how adorably they are bursting with boozy flavors. So much yes to these beautiful looking bites. Love the idea of eating booze. 🙂 Wish you a wonderful weekend!
These mini pie bites are super adorable and I am very sure they taste just as great as they look, Cheyanne.
I’ve never gone out to dinner on Thanksgiving before, but I’ve always wanted to! Kind of like Christmas…I’ve never done that for Christmas either, but I would love to try it one year. Hope you have a wonderful dinner! And yay for no cleanup! 🙂 My husband and I always divide our time between our families, so this year, we’ll go to my in-laws for dinner and my parents’ house for dessert. LOTS of food! And I really need to add these cuties to the list! Use phyllo cups are my favorite for mini desserts, and I LOVE the bourbon apples in here. Such a great idea, Cheyanne! Pinned and can’t wait to try these out. Hope you have a wonderful weekend!
This is perfect for every mom 😀 I love it!
These are just the perfect little bite and they looks so beautiful as well! Eating booze instead of drinking it on thirsty Thursday works for me as well 😉 Have a lovely weekend!
