Android 11 DP4: Pixel Themes adds new icon shapes alongside other launcher tweaks

With the arrival of Android 11’s unscheduled fourth developer preview, there’s not a whole lot to really talk about. One area Google has made a few tweaks, though, is with the homescreen with new icon shapes to choose from in Android 11 and more.

First, let’s go with a change you might not have noticed. The “chevron” arrow that represents the app drawer has changed slightly. It’s now wider while retaining roughly the same height. Personally, I’m not a fan of the look, but if it works it works.

More excitingly, Google has expanded on customizability further. In Android 11 DP4, there are two new shapes for icons on the homescreen and in other portions of the system. The first of those shapes is a hexagon — though a weirdly slim one — and also a quatrefoil (aka four circles connected). I’m not sure who will really want to use these extra shapes, but I guess any choice is good!

Notably, we can see these shapes but neither of them actually work yet.

Instructions
1. Install module using magisk manager.
2. Reboot
3. Go to settings and change the default launcher.
4. Reboot.

Will this work on lineage 18.1 gsi. Nokia 8.1 snapdragon 710..whenever I change something in product/overlay like dump apk from on gsi to other without editing phone bootloops. so will this work on my device. I am on lineage 18.1 gsi

I know I’m in the Essential forum, but I’ll post my experience anyway in case anyone is interested. I installed v3.1 on a Pixel 5 Running unofficial Lineage 18.1 with open gapps nano. Everything works except for text selection; I tried granting permissions to Device Personalization Services, but it didn’t help. It would be nice to have that feature, but I’m happy to use this module even without it.

Tried and ****ed up for 3 hours.. OnePlus 7 pro running Android 11 OOS OB 2.. why 3 hours because my phone is rooted with no twrp with modded boot image patched with magisk for android 10 that’s the way OnePlus 7 pro users having root.

Well I want pixel launcher 11.. pls do something.

Actually after magisk installation device getting into boot loop with the bigger size module.

And for smaller package device got re-start, but when I tried to access settings app the phone get restart, I tried 3 times to get into settings app after that phone went into bootloop.

[THEME][ROOT][MAGISK][Android 11]Pixel Theme for AOSP ROMs and MODs for stock ROM

This is a Magisk module that ports Pixel theme and some Pixel features to AOSP Android 11 (it should be compatible with all AOSP 11, and close to it, ROMs and devices).

Don’t have Magisk running yet? No problem, just follow THESE instructions. If you’re running stock Android 11 ROM 12.0.7.0 for Mi A3, then you just need to follow from step 7 onwards and use THISMagisk patched boot.img. You can also use TWRP to patch your current boot.img, just check THESE INSTRUCTIONSto understand how to do it.

In case you’re worried about OTAs, and you should since this will most likely break OTA installation, please just read THIS.

Don’t forget to give all permissions to all apps included on the theme (Pixel Launcher, Sound Picker, Pixel Live Wallpaper Picker, Device Personalization Services, Markup, etc.)

Regarding the themed boot animation, I recommend you to, before using the «Auto Dark Based On Daylight» macro, create a backup of your current bootanimation.zip file (just rename it to bootanimation_BKP.zip or something like that, the original file is on /system/media/). If you don’t do this, you will lose it!

Since Android 11 already has the feature to automatically change the theme based on daylight, you can edit the macro and remove the enable/disable dark theme. Leave only the script that changes the boot animation.

Notes about Mi A3 Mods :

All features that you see on Mi A3 MODs Magisk Module were reverse engineered from Evolution X ROM source code. The source code is available on the link bellow shown on the credits. This means that I’ve been practicing some hard core «old school» Android smali edition in order to get this working. So, yes, I have some credits about this but, if it weren’t for the orginal devs and it’s public source code, none of this would be possible. Thank them for this!

Smali edit is not enough to get this working. After decompiling, changing/adapt the code and recompiling everything again, I had to find a way to make it bootable without messing with the original apk signature. And here is were VR Theme logic came in handy. So thanks for the original dev who brought us this feature.

As for ROM Control app. this was/is a project created by daxgirl and wubydax back in 2015! So yeah, I’m not bringing anything new here, I just followed their instructions in order to get the features working after editing smali with the source code taken from Evolution X. The app source code is also available on the link shared on the credits.

I’ve combined all of the above into a Magisk Module and shared here so that we can get the best of both worlds. a stock ROM with custom features included.
