The goal of these releases is to open up :
— the ARCHOS Generation 10 tablet,
— the ARCHOS Generation 9 tablets,
— the ARCHOS Generation 8 internet tablets,
— the ARCHOS 5 Generation 7 internet tablet,
— the ARCHOS 5 and ARCHOS 7 Generation 6 Internet Media Tablets
and provide a starting point for people interested in building native applications on a standard Linux base.
Remarks:
These SDE firmwares do not contain any of the legacy ARCHOS multimedia software.
Generations 6, 7, 8 SDE firmwares are based on the Ångström distribution (http://www.angstrom-distribution.org/) generated from a customized open embedded build (http://wiki.openembedded.net/index.php/Main_Page).
Generation 9, 10 SDE firmwares consist only in enablers for being able to flash a kernel or install a new system image through Archos recovery. Note that no real system image (e.g. Ångström distribution) is provided in this SDE firmware, there is only a small Linux kernel that display a logo on the screen and then reboots. For ARCHOS Generation 9 and 10 devices only:
Important notices to be acknowledged before downloading and installing the SDE firmware:
- Once the SDE firmware is installed on a device, this device will be watermarked and ARCHOS will be able to detect that this firmware has been installed once.
- After SDE firmware installation, you will not be able to play DRM protected content anymore.
- Installing the SDE firmware is considered by ARCHOS as a voiding of the warranty and ARCHOS declines all liability and responsibility for any issues resulting from the installation of this SDE firmware.
- ARCHOS strongly advises that only experts in embedded software development should install this firmware.
- This firmware is provided «as is» and is not supported by ARCHOS.
The firmware must be installed on a unit with a firmware version above 4.0.1 (Ice Cream Sandwich). Once the SDE firmware is installed, powering on the device while pressing the ‘volume down’ button will now trigger a «Boot Menu». This menu allows to select which operating system is to be launched (Android, the newly installed Developer Edition or the Recovery System). If the device is powered on while pressing jointly the ‘volume down’ and the ‘volume up’ buttons, the Developer Edition will be launched. If the device is powered on without any other button pressed, Android will be launched.
Installing a new ARCHOS (Android) firmware WILL NOT remove the SDE firmware. In order to uninstall the SDE, boot into the recovery using the Boot Menu, select «Developer Edition Menu», then «Uninstall Developer Edition».
For ARCHOS Generation 8 devices only:
Important notices to be acknowledged before downloading and installing the SDE firmware:
- After SDE firmware installation, you will not be able to play DRM protected content anymore.
- Installing the Special Developer Edition firmware is considered by ARCHOS as a voiding of the warranty and ARCHOS declines all liability or responsibility for any issues resulting from installing this Special Developer Edition firmware.
- The Special Developer Edition firmware is provided under the entire responsibility of whomever installs it and this firmware is not supported by ARCHOS.

The SDE firmware MUST be installed using the recovery menu. The recovery is triggered by powering on the device while pressing the ‘volume down’ button (or 3 consecutive short press on the power button for the A28). In order to install the new firmware, the «Update firmware» option needs to be selected by navigating up and down the items with the ‘volume up’ and ‘volume down’ buttons and then executing the selection with a short press on the power button. Once in this mode, the device can be connected to a PC and will act as a mass storage device where the .aos firmware file can be uploaded. Once this step is done, press on the power button again to launch the installation process.

Непонравилась стабильность прошивки(2.0.54 андроид 2.2.1) сегодня например 5 раз уже вешал наглухо очень надеюсь что в ближайшее время выдет новая прошивка.

Мы создали процессор ARM A8 коры максимум 800 МГц по умолчанию в целях оптимизации работы аккумулятора. Все Archos продукты используют изменение частоты в качестве средства, чтобы продлить срок службы батарей (например, при прослушивании MP3, скорость процессора снижается до 300 МГц). 1 ГГц в настоящее время используется для определенных задач, таких как интернет.
Мы добиваемся примерно такую же производительность между эклер 1.0.84 и 2.0.54 Froyo прошивки использованием Квадрант тестирования компьютеров.
Отметим, что существует проблема с Квадрант тестирования компьютеров на наших текущих прошивки в результате ложного результата относительно оценки скорости процессора. Он был установлен внутри страны и мы достигнем теперь оценка более чем 1300 для Archos43it.
Wi-Fi:

У нас есть конкретные конфигурации флэш-плагин, который позволяет аппаратное ускорение декодирования видео оптимизированы, которые не могут быть обнародованы до Adobe сертификации будет завершена. Все тесты проводятся в настоящее время с другими плагинами Flash приведет к снижению производительности, что не будет отражать нашу платформу потенциал. «

Я сегодня разогнал проц до заявленных 1000МГц, в результате получил совершенно другую машинку. Это просто супер. Рекомендую.
По умолчанию стоит 800МГц!

1. Получаем временный root (до перезагрузки гаджета)
- Загружаем и инсталируем приложение z4root, запускаем, жмем на кнопку «Temporary Root»
- Появляется сообщение «Usb Debugging, must be enabled!» Жмем ok
- Попадаем в настройки/приложения,выбираем пункт: разработка, ставим галочку напротив : » Отладка по USB » и возвращаемся в программу, ждем примерно 3-5 мин. До получения уведомления что root получен и выходим из приложения.
2) Загружаем и инсталируем приложение SetCPU, запускаем и играемся с частотой (выбираем максимальный и минимальный пороги частоты процессора!)
НА ПРОШИВКЕ 2.0.71 данный способ НЕРАБОТАЕТ.

На какую шился если на последнюю(2.0.71 )то возможно нужно сначало на предпоследнюю(2.0.54) а потом уже на последнюю.

Вчера купил-таки плагин AC3+MPEG2 15 евро. Небыло мочи ждать пока его ламанут а HDrip без ас3 вприроде вобще редкость да и DVDrip’ы все чаще идут с ас3 звуком а вырезать и перекодировать звук только что-бы посмотреть фильм считаю извратом. Темболее что 5.1 акустика с HDMI входами а постоянно используемый для просмотра кино HDплеер WD успешно склеил ласты.
Процес прокупки и установки:
1 плагин привязан к номеру аркоса тоесть меня попросили выбрать серийник моего аппарата .
2 при поступлении кним денег(оплачивал pay-pal ) открываются 2 ссылки на скачивание для винды( exe фаил) и для линухи (AOS).
Виндовый запускается на компе с потключенным кнему аркосом (вылезло Дос окно и начило вываливать ошибки)
Линуксовый копируется на аркос в корень диска и при отключении от компа сразу спрашивае нужно-ли установить найденый плагин.
После установки все отлисно работает и ac3 и DVD файлы.
Вот плагины если кто-то хочет покопаться ( сжал rar’ом потому-что нехотели заливатся на форум):

Описание изменений с новой прошивкой 2.0.71 (16.12.2010)
- Wi-Fi: Исправлено зависание Wi-Fi при использовании технологии WPA2/AES
- Wi-Fi: Исправлена невозможность подсоединиться к WiFi-сетям на каналах выше 11
- Управление расходом питания: для планшетов A43/A70/A101 добавлена опция в меню «Об устройстве» с выбором из 3 пунктов управления расходом питания:
- Overdrive позволяет работать процессору на максимальной частоте 1GHz с регулятором ondemand (динамически изменяет частоту процессора в зависимости от нагрузки на систему)
- Optimal — процессор работает на частоте 800MHz с регулятором ondemand
- Powersave — процессор работает на частоте 800MHz с регулятором conservative (похож на регулятор ondemand, разница лишь в плавном увеличении и уменьшении частоты процессора, что лучше для батареи)
- Индексация: увеличена скорость сканирования при отключении от USB
- ОЗУ: Добавлена поддержка стандартов NTFS (только чтение) и EXT3 для SD-карт
- ОЗУ: Исправлен баг, когда sd-карта не определялась при ситуации смены карты одного изготовителя на карту другого
- Видео: исправлена проблема с субтитрами на модели A101
- Сетевые расшаренные папки
- увеличена скорость сканирования
- управление ситуацией с видимостью сетевых шар, если аутентификация еще не произведена
- теперь есть возможность выбрать в настройках беспроводных сетей параметры аутентификации сервера
- теперь службы samba и UPnP перезагружаются, если выполнено переключение между точками доступа без дисконнекта
- Аудио: добавлен пункт Global Mute в меню, вызываемый по кнопке Power. Режим тишины распространяется на все аудиопотоки, кроме будильника (если он выбран)
- Приложения: appslib теперь переустанавливается после сброса до заводских настроек
- Приложения: исправлен бенчмарк процессора в приложении Quadrant
- Расход питания: исправлен баг с выключением планшета при коротком нажатии на кнопку Power
- Поддержка локалей: добавлена поддержка корейской кодовой страницы и субтитров
- Мультимедиа: теперь используются маленькие порции памяти для декодирования H264 SD
- Управление памятью: в ситуациях с нехваткой памяти используется более умная выгрузка приложений из памяти

На 2.0.71 вроде как нельзя получить рут.
Но если у кого сейчас установлена 2.0.71 — потестируйте пожалуйста Quadrant
