Search files android device

MobileFileSearch is a freeware tool for Windows operating system that allows you to easily search files inside an Android device plugged to USB port on your computer. You can search files by their size, their created time, their modified time, or their name (using wildcard). MobileFileSearch is a standalone .exe file that you can put in any folder you want and run it without need of any installation process.

In order to search files on Android device with MobileFileSearch, you have to plug your Android device to a USB port on your computer.
After plugging the device to the USB port, you may need to select ‘File Transfer’ USB connection in your Android Device, like in the following screenshot:

Assuming that Windows operating system identifies your Android device correctly, you should see the device in Windows Explorer:

After your Android device is connected properly to your computer, here’s how to search files on your device with MobileFileSearch:

1. Run MobileFileSearch.exe
2. In the ‘Search Options’ window — choose the desired search configuration to search your Android device. In the example below, I chose to search .mp4 files (*.mp4 in Wildcards field) that have been created in the last 7 days and their size is at least 50 MB:

Click the ‘Start Search’ button, and MobileFileSearch will start searching your Android device.

After the search process is finished, you should see the list of all found files, like in the following screenshot:

You can now select one or more files (You can press Ctrl+A to select all files), and then copy them to a folder on your system (Choose the ‘Copy Selected Files To’ menu item or press F8) or delete them (File -> Delete Selected Files or press Ctrl+Delete). You can also export the files list into comma-delimited/tab-delimited/XML/HTML/JSON file by using the ‘Export Selected Items’ option.

MobileFileSearch also allows you to activate the Android files search from command-line and then export the search result to a file. For example, the following command searches .mp4 files that have been created in the last week and their size is at least 50 MB and then exports the search result to comma-delimited file:
MobileFileSearch .exe /CreatedTime.FindMode 6 /CreatedTime.LastXX 7 /UseFromSize 1 /FromSize 50 /FromSizeUnit 3 /Wildcard «*.mp4» /sort «File Size» /scomma «c:\files\android-large-mp4-last-week.csv»

MobileFileSearch also allows you to activate the search from command-line and then export the result to a file, or copy the found files to the desired folder on your computer.

System Requirements

• This tool works on any version of Windows, starting from Windows Vista and up to Windows 10. Both 32-bit and 64-bit systems are supported.
• Be aware that this tool is useful if your Smartphone/Tablet uses the Media Transfer Protocol (MTP) to view and transfer files via USB. If you have an option to connect your Smartphone/Tablet as mass storage device (with drive letter), then this tool is not needed, and you can search files with any other search tool, like SearchMyFiles.

How to Search Files Quick­ly on Android with Search Everything

No matter how smooth app launchers have become, be it the Modern Start Menu of Windows 8 or the Aviate launcher on Android, what we really yearn for is instant information right at our fingertips. Now we did talk about some apps like FARR and Launchy, which you can install on Windows. These apps index all of your files and applications, making them easily searchable so your little search robots can retrieve them in a jiff. But this is going to be the first time that we discuss doing so on Android.

So today I am going to talk about a recent app that was featured on XDA, called Search Everything.

After you install the app from the Play Store and open it for the first time, it will index all the files that are on your device. And when I say everything, I really mean it. The app even indexes the files that have the .nomedia file in the parent folder, which typically ignores them according to Android media indexing.

Search Everything for Android

When you run the app for the first time, it indexes the files on your device’s internal memory (SD card not yet supported) and shows you the total number of files it has indexed. The process is quick enough and doesn’t take up a lot of resources. Now, after all the files have been indexed, you can go ahead and type anything in the search field and any matches will be returned in real-time.

Along with the list of the files that are matched, it also displays the full path of the file location. When you long-tap on any of the files, it will give the option to either open it directly or open the file location on your default file explorer.

You can also share and delete the files if you wish. The Properties option provides a small text box with file size and last modified date information.

Other than that, there’s nothing more that you can do with the app. There’s no settings option, not even an about or help page to give any details about the app. The app works great for what it does, but I felt that it was launched in a hurry, leaving a lot of room for future development. Off the top of my head, I’d like to see the ability to index external SD cards and added options to ignore some specific folders and filter out wildcards.

Conclusion

Undoubtedly, Search Everything is a great way to search for files on Android, especially when compared to big shot file managers out there like the ES File Explorer. However the options are very limited, and I must say, some options aren’t even available.
