Ways to securely access Yahoo Mail
By default, we block access to Yahoo Mail from outdated apps that could leave your account vulnerable. If we sent you an email indicating that your app is using outdated security protocols or you’re unable to log in from an older app, you still have several options available to you.
Password errors and access issues
If you try to use Yahoo Mail in a third-party email client using less secure sign-in technology, you might get a «Server password has changed» or an «Authentication failed» error message. This is because those email apps use outdated security protocols and we’ve disabled access to them by default now.
Use a secure option to access Yahoo Mail
Don’t worry! You have options to keep using your Yahoo Mail securely and without interruption:
- Use the Yahoo Mail website: mail.yahoo.com.
- Install the Yahoo Mail app on your Android or iOS devices.
- Use an app password.
- Keep your current application, but follow the steps below to ensure it’s syncing with our secure sign-in method. Please note, not all third-party email apps are supported.
Continue using third-party mail apps securely
Use an app password
If you use Yahoo two-step verification, Account Key or an older email app, you may need to use an app specific password to access Yahoo Mail. Just remember, app passwords are only valid for the app they are created for and remain valid until you sign out or remove access to the app. At that time, a new app password will need to be created.

Emails are not received in Yahoo Mail
Not getting the emails you expect is frustrating, especially when you are waiting for an important email. Use the steps below to quickly identify the reason behind this and if there’s an issue with your account or the sender’s account that’s preventing the messages from arriving.
Check your account settings
These settings can prevent email from getting to your Inbox:
Check if your account has any errors
Sign in to your Yahoo Mail account on a computer and send yourself an email.
- If you don’t get an error — Your account is working as expected.
- If you don’t receive the email — Check some info on failed delivery messages.
- If you get an error message — The instructions to fix the error should be included with the message.
Have the sender check their account
If you didn’t find anything wrong with your account, then the issue is on the sender’s side.
- Make sure they entered your full email address correctly.
- Suggest they contact their email provider for further assistance.
Not receiving password recovery emails?
If you’re trying to regain access to a social media account using your Yahoo account, but aren’t receiving the recovery email, you may be using a recycled Yahoo email address. Your old Yahoo account may have been closed due to inactivity, and later that same username became available again for you or any new user to claim as their own. To prevent identity theft, Yahoo may not allow recovery emails to be sent to recycled email addresses. Reach out to the third-party company for more help.
