How to Show Battery Percentage on the iPhone 12
Don’t guess how much power your battery has left
What to Know
- Swipe down from the top right corner of the screen. The battery percentage is in the top right corner next to the battery icon.
- Tap and hold the screen until the icons start wiggling. Tap + >Batteries > choose the widget style >Add Widget >Done.
This article explains how to view the battery percentage on the iPhone 12 as well as how to have it available on your home screen using a widget.
How to View Battery Percentage on the iPhone 12
On earlier versions of iOS, you had to turn on the battery percentage option to see this information. Not on the iPhone 12! These days, the battery percentage option is on by default—you just have to know where to find it.
If you are upgrading from an iPhone without Face ID, you’ll see that because of the camera notch at the top, there’s no longer enough horizontal room to display the battery icon and the percentage simultaneously.
Swipe down from the top right corner of the iPhone 12 screen to open iOS Control Center.
In the top right corner of the screen, next to the battery icon, is the battery percentage. This is how much battery your iPhone 12 has left.
Swipe up or tap on the background to close Control Center again.
If all you want to be able to do is periodically check the battery percentage, then that’s all you have to do. If you want to easily keep tabs on the battery’s status, consider adding a widget to your home screen. Battery low? Here are the different ways you can charge your iPhone 12.
One way to find the battery percentage on iPhone 12 is to ask Siri. Activate Siri using the Side button and then ask «Hey Siri, how much battery do I have left?» The battery percentage will appear on the screen.
How to Add a Battery Widget to the iPhone 12
Thanks to iPhone widgets in iOS 14, which comes pre-loaded on the iPhone 12, you can add a battery percentage widget to your home screen.
Tap and hold the screen until the icons start wiggling.
Tap +.
In the widgets pop-up, tap Batteries.
Choose the widget style you want to use. Swipe back and forth to see the options. The Batteries widget will also display battery info for Apple devices connected to your phone like Apple Watch or AirPods.
Tap Add Widget for the one you want to use.
The widget is added to your home screen. Move it around to the location where you want it and then tap Done.
Seeing your battery percentage is good information, but it doesn’t help your battery last longer. There are ways to extend an iPhone’s battery life such as using iOS Low Power Mode.

How to Show Battery Percentage on iPhone 11, iPhone XS, iPhone XR, X
Want to see the battery percentage remaining on an iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11 Pro Max, iPhone X, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, or iPhone XR? If you have one of these iPhone models, you may have noticed that the battery percentage indicator is not an option to enable in the device settings. This is probably because the prominent notch at the top of the screen, which houses the front facing camera and the phones ear speaker, does not allow for sufficient room on its sides to fit the battery percentage indicator.
So how do you see the battery percentage indicator on iPhone 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro Max, X, XS, or XR? And how do you know what percentage charged the iPhone 11, X, XS, XR is, or how much percentage charge is left on the iPhone 11, X, XR, XS battery?
With iPhone X and newer, including iPhone 11, 11 Pro, iPhone 11 Pro Max, XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR, there is a way to see the battery percentage on the phone, but it’s probably not where you’d expect it to be.
That’s because battery percentage on iPhone X and newer is now tucked into Control Center. Thus, you must access Control Center to see the battery percentage on iPhone 11, X, XS, XR. Well, technically there’s another way too with charging the latest iPhone series, but we’re emphasizing the Control Center approach here.
How to See Battery Percentage Indicator on iPhone 11, X, XS, XR
Open Control Center on the iPhone 11, X, XS, XR, which is different than opening it on any other device, and you’ll find the battery indicator you are looking for:
- Swipe down from the top right of the iPhone screen (the portion of iPhone screen to the right of the Notch) to access Control Center
- Look in the upper right corner of Control Center to see the battery percentage indicator next to the battery icon
Anytime you want to see battery percentage on iPhone 11, X, XS, XR and later, just open Control Center.
This is notably different from other iPhone or iPad models without the screen notch, where you can use an iOS setting to show battery percentage all the time in the top icon bar.
Seeing Battery Percentage Indicator on iPhone 11, X, XS, XR When Charging
There is one other way to see battery percentage on iPhone 11, X, XS, XR: when charging the phone.
When you start to charge iPhone X either with a pad charger or plug-in charger, you will see the battery percentage as well splash on the screen briefly. Just plug in iPhone X or rest it on a plug-free conductive charger, and you’ll see it briefly.
But that’s much less convenient and you likely won’t use that method if you’re on the road. So we’ll focus on the Control Center approach instead.
It’s possible Apple will change who you invoke Control Center on new iPhone models again, and it’s also possible Apple will enable some other way to see the percentage of battery on iPhone 11, X, XS, etc without having to access Control Center. But for now, open Control Center on iPhone 11, XS, X, etc to see the battery time remaining.
This applies to any iPhone model with the screen notch that hides the battery percentage indicator from display, including iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11 Pro Max, iPhone 11, iPhone XS Max, iPhone X, iPhone XS, iPhone XR, and presumably any future screen notch equipped iPhones.

How to show battery percentage on iPhone 12 mini, 12, and 12 Pro
— Dec. 14th 2020 1:17 am PT
For the longest time, it was super simple to show battery percentage on the iPhone — there was just one little toggle in the Settings app and it would turn on the percentage indicator in the top-right corner of the screen. Things are a little more complicated with the iPhone 12. Here’s how you can view or show the battery percentage on iPhone 12 mini, 12, and 12 Pro…
How to show battery percentage on iPhone 12 mini, 12, and 12 Pro
- Swipe down from the top-right corner on the display to show Control Center
- That’s it — your battery percentage will appear next the battery indicator
- Consider other options — like widgets — to more permanently display battery percentage elsewhere
Get a quick peek at the battery percentage from anywhere
If you want to get a peek at your battery percentage from anywhere on your phone, it’s as simple as swiping down from the top-right corner to show the Control Center. On previous iPhones, there was an easy option located in the Settings app on the Battery settings page, which let you permanently display the battery percentage on the screen. That option was removed with the iPhone X.
Use widgets to show battery percentage elsewhere
While this is fine — and it makes sense that Apple would use Control Center to make the battery percentage a quick swipe away at any time — this isn’t always what you’re looking for. If you’re anything like me, you’d prefer something a bit more permanent to display your battery percentage. Say, on your home screen, perhaps? In the form of a widget? Thankfully there’s an easy solution for that.
- Tap and hold any blank space on the home screen
- Tap the “+” icon in the top-left corner to open the widget picker
- Search for “Batteries” to find the built-in batteries widget
- Choose a format and add it to your home screen or widget screen
The batteries widget is great for anyone that wants to show the battery percentage more prominently on their iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12, or iPhone 12 Pro. There are — as of this writing, in the latest version of iOS 14 — three different formats to choose from to fit your home screen or widget screen. The first is a basic square which offers no percentages, but the last two display full percentage numbers.
Wrap up
While it might not be the same as the days of iPhone yore, it’s still pretty simple in modern times to find that battery percentage indicator. In fact, one could argue that there are actually more options available to iPhone users who are particular about their numbers, thanks to the Batteries widget and the ability to add widgets to the home screen with iOS 14.
