Smoothie apple and carrots

Apple Carrot Beet Smoothie

You can tell this apple carrot beet smoothie is brimming with antioxidants from its vibrant red color! This delicious combination of beets, ginger, carrots, orange, and apple delivers a range of flavor in a satisfying juice drink to enjoy at breakfast or as an afternoon pick-me-up.

If ever there was a nutrient-packed smoothie the equivalent of “drinking your veggies” it’s this one. Low in calories but high in vitamins and minerals, the ingredients in this smoothie are brimming with anti-inflammatory, digestive, and immune-boosting benefits.

While I love using cooked beets to make my roasted beet hummus or roasted beet and kale salad, blending them raw in a smoothie is a whole different experience! They are earthy and sweet at the same time, and truly deserve their “dirt candy” nickname.

So pick up the freshest beets and carrots you can find to ensure you’re getting the best nutritional bang for your buck, and whip up this smoothie. Your body will thank you.

Apple Carrot Beet Smoothie Ingredients

Just 5 simple ingredients and a high-powered blender is all you need. Here’s what’s in this smoothie:

Red Beet: adds a sweet and earthy flavor and ruby-red color; you can use a yellow beet instead for a golden-colored juice.

Apple: I used a Granny Smith apple here but it’s fine to use any apple you like or have on hand.

Carrots: contribute a subtle sweetness and additional fiber.

Fresh Ginger: adds a bright and spicy note.

Orange Juice: provides natural sweetness to balance the other ingredients.

Should You Peel the Vegetables?

It’s really up to you. There’s no need to as long as you wash the beets, carrots, and apple well and give them a good scrub. The skin contains additional fiber and will turn this into a thick and luscious smoothie. Sometimes I’ll just do a rough peel to remove any darkened bits. But I do usually peel the ginger, as the skin can sometimes be tough. If you’d prefer a less thick and fibrous smoothie, then by all means, feel free to peel the fruit and veggies.

Tips for Healthy Smoothies

The best smoothies are made with top-quality ingredients chosen for their intense colors and flavors. Pick up a selection of vegetables and fruit that suit your palate and play around with add-ins to maximize your smoothie’s health benefits.

  • Buy good quality ingredients. Look for high-quality fresh fruits and vegetables from your grocery store or farmer’s market. You want ingredients that are firm and feel heavy for their size, and not dried up or bruised.
  • Stick with a healthy liquid base. I used freshly squeezed orange juice and water to help the blender work its magic. Coconut water is always a great option as well.
  • Boost with superfoods. Try adding ground turmeric, cinnamon, maca powder, or bee pollen to amp up nutrition.

Apple Carrot Kale Smoothie

A naturally sweet, green smoothie with carrots and kale (that’s quite delicious)

Green smoothies are all the rage now-a-days. (We have a bunch on our Vitamix Recipes page).

Because they pack a major nutrient punch and because they are delicious!

And, of course, because I make one almost every morning. Helped me reach my “goal” before our wedding.

This one is easy, cheap, and packed with vitamins. Best part is, even your picky eaters will crave them!

Go make this Apple Carrot Kale smoothie in your Vitamix to jumpstart your morning.

An original that needed some updates (and love)

This apple carrot kale smoothie is one of the first green smoothies on this site. Here’s the original pic from 2009.

You wouldn’t believe the junk Lenny suggested putting in this drink. Here’s the original from the 2013 post via web.archive.org.

So you see why I had to say, “I’ll be the author on this post now.”

Anyway, we’ve given it a new photo shoot, veganized it, and confirmed the recipe’s results. We think it’s better than ever.

(Here are the ingredients inside of a 32-ounce container on top of our Vitamix Pro 750.)

Recipe

Apple Carrot Kale Smoothie

  • Yield: two 12 ounce smoothies
  • You’re needed for: 2 minutes
  • Until it’s done: 4 minutes

A healthy and naturally sweet green smoothie

Apple, Banana, Carrots, Kale,

Ingredients:

  • almond milk — 1 cup (240 mL)
  • kale — 1 cup (65 g)
  • apple (any variety) — 1/2 large with skin
  • carrots — 1/2 cup (65 g) with skin
  • frozen banana — 1 whole peeled
  • ice — 3/4 cup (160 g)
  • OPTIONAL
  • date (for more sweetness) — 1 whole
  • flax, chia, hemp seed, etc — 1 Tbsp. (10 g)

Instructions:

  1. Add ingredients in order listed, liquid first, then soft ingredients, then hard, then frozen
  2. Ramp your Vitamix from variable speed 1 to high
  3. Use your tamper to push ingredients into blade (if necessary, it wasn’t for us).
  4. Blend on high for 60-90 seconds until homogenous
  5. Snap a pic and tag #lifeisNOYOKE
  6. Enjoy!

Useful tips for Apple Carrot Kale Smoothie

There’s lots of substitutions you can make here. Some suggestions:

Base: sub almond milk for coconut milk or green tea
Greens: sub kale for spinach or romaine
Texture: sub banana for frozen mango
Sweetener: totally optional, but can sub a date for agave or honey (if not strict vegan)
Seeds: use anything you have on hand, blend in or use for pretty (and healthy) topping

We used a yellow carrot so that the color of the green smoothie remained vibrant and not muddied. Yes, this is important to us because we put pictures of our smoothies all over the internet.

But it should be important to you because we taste with our eyes. If we detect a hint of “brown-ness” that smoothie is going down the drain! (See original pic above.)

Go make yourself (and your family) an Apple Carrot Kale Smoothie and then tomorrow try Carolyne’s Green Smoothie! Another fan favorite 🙂

I didn’t have kale, but used this arugula kale mix. I feel like i needed another apple or a little more honey (local from this season!) to make it a bit sweeter and cover the mixed greens taste some more…. Though both the apple and banana I used were a bit small so that might be the issue as well.

I don’t mind a not super green smoothie so the orange carrot was no problem! 😉

Next time try with spinach or kale. Arugula is very peppery and hard to conceal the “greenness” with any amount of fruit. Not my favorite smoothie ingredient 🙁

Thank you!

Hi Harrison, we don’t include calories in our recipes because our audience is international and we find nutritional value of ingredients vary greatly depending on location. Best bet is to put your ingredients into an online nutritional calculator.

Anna Lorraine Heppenstall —

My husband got me the newest Vitamix and was looking for an easy but yummy smoothie recipe. So glad I found this – it was sooooo good and just enough sweetness! Love love love this recipe!!

So glad to hear you liked it! What a great husband 😉

Made this recipe a couple of times already, I love it!! So glad I found your website!! Keep the recipes coming!!

Thanks so much for taking the time to leave a comment, Tee. Glad you like it 🙂

Heyhey! Glad you like it

You guys are great! Your Youtube channel convinced me to get Vitamix a3500. Don’t worry, I used the NOYOKE code. =)

Amazing! Just what we like to hear. Even better that you’re here looking for healthy smoothie recipes 🙂

I’m trying to loose the last 7 pounds of fat and I love egg whites. But I’m so bored of eating it the same way. I’m looking to get leaner and tighten up muscles. What smoothies you reccomend?

Really any of the smoothies from this list. They’re under Vitamix recipes, but any blender should work fine. https://lifeisnoyoke.com/vitamix-recipes/#smoothies

Update 12/1/16: Most of our Vitamix Recipes have been vegan-ized. Almond milk is the substitute for liquid pasteurized egg whites in equal amounts if you’re wanting to use them 🙂

Since I have had a chronic bout with gout, I am wondering if this much protein can contribute to more problems. I love the egg whites and cook them once in awhile just to eat. But am so worried about too much purine again. Do you know or have you researched the bodies reaction to this type of protein. I eat almost no meat.

I eat very little meat, too. Mostly fish and occasionally chicken or turkey.

I have a very sensitive stomach. Yet, I’ve never had any issues with these smoothies. Have been making them for 10 years.

Maybe try the smoothie with half the required liquid pasteurized egg whites? If it goes well, make the full recipe.

UPDATE (12/1/16): This recipe has been vegan-ized. It no longer uses egg whites (although I still do occasionally). No more chicken or turkey for me 🙂

Best Apple and carrot smoothie to keep you healthy

Apple and carrot smoothie

This delicious creamy-textured apple and carrot smoothie will turn you into a smoothie fan. That’s my promise as a food enthusiast. Let’s be honest apple and carrots sound a bit cliché considering both classically full of health according to doctors. Carrots as veggies and apples as “an apple a day keeps the doctor away”.

Deliciously Creamy Smoothie

This apple and carrot smoothie is ideal for eliminating abdominal fat, promotes digestion, helps prevent constipation, and, being low in calories, is ideal for keeping your weight balanced.

The old but clearly relatable phrase has positioned apple as fruit really well deep in our minds. As kids and as adults we all wanted to drink our calories as much as we could. Talking about juices and smoothies they are comparatively easy to consume. Smoothies unlike fruit juices offer a lot more benefits. Rich in fruit and vegetable fiber apple and carrot smoothie offers essential natural proteins and antioxidants.

The best vegan smoothie

Smoothies that include sharply flavored ingredients are bound to be healthy. With the majority of the population now preferring vegan options, nothing could be better than this apple and carrot smoothie. For other non-vegan options, you may want to check braised beef or Galician octopus recipe. How about a carrot and apple smoothie with a pinch of ginger in it? To some, it may not appeal as much but believe me when I say it didn’t taste odd at all. Adding a couple of ginger slices will enhance the punchy node. To balance the flavor, you may add some lemon juice but it tastes as good as without lemon. If you are a big fan of lemon zing do check this delicious lemon mousse recipe.

Smoothie vs juice; the age-old question

Now the od age comparison of juices vs smoothies, I am a big fan of smoothies. My vote isn’t based upon mere personal choice but a rational one. Let’s talk about the basics first. The key difference between smoothies and juices is the procedure through which they are made. Juices are normally extracted n cold press juicers and other standard high-speed electric juicers. Smoothies are blended in smoothie makers including all the ingredients and their fibers. So, juices do not include essential fibers while smoothies do have fruit fibers and husk.

What’s right? Apple and carrot smoothie or juice

Whether you should extract juice or have a smoothie is entirely up to the individual needs and preference. Juices tend to be sweeter and absorb far easier than smoothies which are less sweet duet to whole fruit in it. People who are weight conscious should go for smoothies, while people who are looking for a quick energy fix may choose juices over smoothies.

So, apple and carrot smoothie is the right choice so here is the healthy recipe for you to make and enjoy.

Ingredients

  • 4 carrots
  • 1 apple
  • 1 stalk of celery
  • 1 handful of spinach
  • 3 tablespoons lemon juice

Wash all the ingredients very well and mix them in the blender. You can sweeten it with a little honey and then take it preferably on an empty stomach.
