Sonic Before the Sequel (Sonic BTS) — фанатская игра от бразильского флэш-аниматора под ником LakeFeperd (также известен как Фелипе Данелуз), разработанная для Windows и MacOS. Версия для MacOS не имеет кат-сцен из-за багов с Adobe Flash. Игра отлично работает на GNU/Linux через Wine, но также без кат-сцен. 22 октября 2016 года автор игры выложил исходный код в открытый доступ вместе с остальными играми со своими условиями использования исходников (то есть используется т. н. «неформальная лицензия»), о чем написал на форуме Sonic Retro.

Сюжет данной игры повествует о том, что же произошло между первой и второй частью оригинальной трилогии Sonic the Hedgehog. Игра вышла в 2011 году, через год она была представлена на SAGE 2012 с измененным саундтреком и некоторыми графическими исправлениями, а также новыми спрайтами самого Соника. Данная игра была официально признана лучшей игрой на SAGE 2011.

Сюжет

После событий игры Sonic 1, Изумруды Хаоса телепортируют Соника в неизвестное место. Там он замечает, что доктор Эггман начал строительство Death Egg, и отправляется к доктору. Также в данной игре автор представляет нам своё видение знакомства Тейлза и Соника. К концу игры Соник узнает, что Изумрудов семь, а не шесть и трансформируется в Супер Соника. Он сражается с Эггманом и прерывает запуск Death Egg. Затем ёж падает вниз, но Тейлз во время его подхватывает на своем «Торнадо», и они вместе летят на West Side Island в Emerald Hill Zone.

Персонажи

Ёжик Соник
Главный герой. В представлении не нуждается. На протяжении всей игры Соник пытается нарушить планы Роботника и прервать запуск Яйца Смерти. К концу игры это и происходит. В середине игры знакомится с Тейлзом и они становятся напарниками.

Майлз «Тейлз» Прауэр
Друг Соника, до его встречи с ним просто наблюдал за ежом и копировал его способности. К примеру, чтобы быстро бегать лисенок начинал быстро разгонятся с помощью своих ног. В Cloudy Crowd Zone Тейлз понимает, что лучше использовать хвосты для разгона вместо ног. К концу игры каким-то образом угнал самолет Соника и подхватил ежа после того, как тот победил доктора и прервал запуск Яйца Смерти.

Доктор Эггман
Главный антагонист. После поражения на южном острове доктор перебрался в другое место с целью строительства своего нового творения — Яйца Смерти. Однако всем его планам помешал синий ёж и огромная база падает на West Side Island.

Безымянный робот
Странный сферический робот, являющийся боссом на уровнях Тейлза. Использует в качестве дизайна Eggmobile с треугольными глазами. Был побежден Тейлзом в Cloudy Crowd Zone и больше не появляется.

Геймплей

Игровой процесс стандартен для игровой серии. Соник имеет способности Spin Dash и Super Peel-Out. Тейлз умеет летать, так же, как и в Sonic 3 & Knuckles В одной зоне есть 3 акта и еще один дополнительный под босса. Бонусные этапы доступны в конце третьего акта в них можно получить только дополнительные жизни, а не Изумруды Хаоса. В игре существуют «временные точки», которые определяют вашу концовку игры. Если вы закончите игру за более чем 2 часа, то вы получаете плохую концовку, в противном случае Соник становится Супер Соником и вы получаете хорошую концовку.
