Tart apple pokemon sword

Where to find additional Sweet and Tart Apples in Pokémon Sword and Shield

Time to grind for some apples.

If you’ve been trying to evolve Applin into either Flapple or Appletun in Pokemon Sword and Shield but have already used the one apple given to you by the NPC in Hammerlocke, then it might be time to grind.

While there are additional Sweet Apples (exclusive to Sword) and Tart Apples (exclusive to Shield), they are incredibly hard to come across and might take some additional grinding to grab a hold of them.

Players can find additional apples under certain trees in the Wild Area. The chances of finding one, however, are pretty low. While players explore the Wild Area’s multiple areas, they’ll come across occasional shines beneath trees. If players approach the shiny ground and hit the A button, they’ll pick up an item, which may be a Sweet or Tart Apple, depending on their game and their luck.

Outside of picking one up from the ground, the last way to get additional Apple items to evolve your Applin is from the various Battle Cafes in Motostoke, Hammerlocke, and Wyndon. You can get Tart Apple or Sweet Apple as an additional reward for competing and winning battles in the cafes, so it’s worth visiting whenever you have time.

Failing that, reach out to other trainers online to see if they have any spare items in your quest to get the perfect Flapple or Appletun.

Pokйmon Sword and Shield Applin evolution method: how to use the Sweet Apple and Tart Apple to evolve into Applin into Flapple or Appletun explained

Apple crumble or apple pie?

Applin, a Gen 8 Pokémon debuted in Pokémon Sword and Shield, can evolve into either Flapple or Appletun through the use of the Tart Apple or Sweet Apple.

The Sweet Apple evolve Applin into Appletun, while the Tart Apple turns it into Flapple.

Since you can only find the Sweet Apple in Pokémon Shield, Appletun is exclusive to that game. This also means that Flapple is exclusive to Pokémon Sword, as the Tart Apple is only available in that game.

Other Gen 8 Pokémon that have unique evolution methods, include Sinistea, Sirfetch’d, Toxel, Milcery and Yamask.

Where to find Applin in Pokémon Sword and Shield

Applin can be found on Route 5 and within several sections of the Wild Area — Dusty Bowl, Giant’s Mirror and Stony Wilderness.

Applin locations.

In all of these areas Applin appears as a random encounter when walking through the grass. This means you need to keep your eyes peeled for those exclamation marks and your hopes high.

How to evolve Applin into either Flapple or Appletun in Pokémon Sword and Shield

Once you have your Applin, it’s time to travel to the city of Hammerlocke.

You can access this city after you beat the third Gym leader and receive the Fire Badge.

In Hammerlocke, follow the road around to the left, past the clothing shops and the second Pokémon Centre.

Follow the left-hand road.

Just before you cross the last drawbridge, you’ll come across a man with brown hair, wearing a red jacket.

Talk to the man in the red jacket.

Talk to him and give him your Applin — don’t worry, you’ll get it back.

After you watch the cutscene, the man will return your Applin, but he will also give you an extra present.

In Pokémon Sword, he will give you a Tart Apple and, in Pokémon Shield, he will give you a Sweet Apple.

He’ll give you either the Sweet Apple or Tart Apple depending on which version you’re playing.

No matter which apple you receive, you’ll always find it in the ‘Other Items’ section of your bag.

Whichever apple you have and use it on your Applin to begin their evolution.

If you give Applin a Tart Apple it will evolve into Flapple, while if you give it a Sweet Apple it will evolve into Appletun.

Use whichever apple you have on Applin to make it evolve.

You can also find another apple once you unlock the ability to ride your bike on water.

Head back to the very first section of the Wild Area you ever ventured into and visit the area called Axew’s Eye. This is a lake with an island in the middle of it.

Journey to this island and beneath the tree you’ll find another Sweet or Tart Apple, depending on which version of the game you are playing.

You’ll find another apple on this island.

What’s the difference between Flapple and Appletun in Pokémon Sword and Shield?

While Flapple and Appletun are both grass and dragon-type Pokémon, they are about as different as they look.

Flapple is the far more aggressive Pokémon, learning a variety of useful dragon-type moves, including Dragon Breath and Dragon Pulse. It can also learn some useful grass-type moves, such as Grav Apple. Not only does this attack damage your opponent, but it will also lower their defence.

Trained correctly Flapple can be a deadly fighter.

Appletun’s attacks, however, are more focuses around being a defensive Pokémon, learning more grass-type attacks, then dragon. A lot of its attacks have the added bonus of lowering the opponents stats.

It can also learn Recover, which will help you stay in the battle for far longer.

Ultimately your choice comes to whether you want a Pokémon that is focused more around the dragon-type, Flapple, or grass, Appletun.

How useful are Flapple and Appletun in Pokémon Sword and Shield?

Flapple and Appletun are both incredibly useful Pokémon, thank to their dual type of grass and dragon, which was only previously used for Mega Sceptile. This makes it a great grass-type Pokémon to add to your team if you didn’t choose Grookey as your starter Pokémon.

The trick is to evolve your Applin early, so that it can take advantage of all the moves that either evolution can learn. Especially since Applin will only either learn Astonish and Withdraw from levelling up and that’s at Level 1.

If you’re wanting to figure out how to evolve your Applin in Pokemon Sword and Shield, well, the answer is pretty easy. You’re going to have to give it an apple. We’re not sure if this is technically cannibalism or not, but hey, we’re not really in any position to judge. However, it’s not just any apple. The apple that you feed this Pokemon will change what it evolves into, though that in itself is version-locked, so here’s our guide on how to get a Tart Apple in Pokemon Sword so that you can get a Flapple.

How to Get a Tart Apple in Pokemon Sword

So, you’re wanting to evolve an Applin in Pokemon Sword? The only way to evolve an Applin is with some sort of Apple (fun fact), so really, it’s either a Tart Apple or a Sweet Apple. If you need a little bit more guidance on how evolving Applin works, we actually have a guide on that exact process that you might find helpful — in fact, we’ve relinked it here just for your convenience. Alright, now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, we’re going to establish one important thing. The Tart Apple item is a Pokemon Sword exclusive, which means that there’s absolutely no way you can get that item in Pokemon Shield.

Using a Tart Apple on your Applin is going to turn it into a Flapple, which is known as the Apple Wing Pokemon. It can have a hidden ability called Hustle, where it increases its damage with regards to physical attacks by a whopping 50% at the cost of some accuracy. It’s a Grass and Dragon Type Pokemon, which means it corners some unique demographics there and can be a great flexible addition fo your team.

To get your hands on a Tart Apple, what you need to do is pretty simple. You need to make your way to Hammerlocke. Once you’re outside the Pokemon Center, you’re going to want to keep heading left on the map until you see an archway leading back out of the town with a young man standing on a grassy patch nearby. He’ll ask to see an Applin and to take yours, so just give it to him — don’t worry, you get it back. Once you give it to him, a sequence will play out with someone that he knows, and he’ll give you back both your Pokemon and the Tart Apple that you need to evolve it. It’s really that easy!

Now that you have our guide on how to get a Tart Apple in Pokemon Sword, it should be a little easier for you to get rid of that Applin and to turn it into a Flapple. While we reckon that this. apple dragon hybrid is a little too terrifying, we can understand why something like that would keep healthcare professionals away, honestly.
