The apple in stem

The apple in stem

Why the f*** doesn’t steam take apple/google pay as a payment method?! I just bought a Apple gift card, assuming on my Apple device that the steam mobile would accept it, but no, f*** you and your money! I just wanted gmod for God’s sake

For the same reason you can’t use a Subway gift card at McDonalds.

Or a iTunes card on Google Play. Or a Google play card on iTunes, Or an Amazon gift card in iTunes or a Steam card on Amazon.

They’re service bound gift cards meant to work on their own service, nothing else, nothing more. None of those work as prepaid credit cards you can use anywhere.

I’m sorry ♥♥♥♥♥♥, i thought steam would be advanced in society

Apple Pay isn’t the same thing as a Apple gift card.

Apple Pay is just another way to use an existing credit or debit card, and it doesn’t cost the merchant (i.e. Steam) anything extra to accept*.

On the other hand, an Apple/iTunes gift card is Apple store credit which can only be used to buy things like App Store apps, in-app purchases, Apple Music subscriptions and the like.

When you buy something with an in-app purchase, Apple takes a 30% cut of that transaction. This makes it uneconomic for Steam to ever let you buy stuff with Apple in-app purchases; if they let you buy things via Apple in-app purchases one-to-one (that is, buy a Steam game costing $10 for $10 of Apple credit) then Apple’s cut would eat Steam’s entire margin (which is also believed to be 30%). It’d be madness for them to do this, which is why they don’t.

* Which is why it would be nice if they supported Apple Pay as a way of making transactions on their website. Sure, it’d only be useful for people who have Macs or iOS devices, but it’d be nice for those of us who do.

Materials for Apple STEM Activity

  • Plastic Apples
  • Magnetic Tape
  • Recycled Cardboard Tubes
  • Magnetic Surface
  • Scissors
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • Green Paper
  • Small Container

Directions for Apple STEM Activity

1. Work on your preschoolers cutting skills by having them cute a link through the cardboard tube to make it a half circle shape.

If they are still working on these skills they can do it with you. It’s a study surface which makes it a little bit easier to hold than paper. You could even draw a line for them to follow to make it easier.

2. Once you’ve cut the recycled cardboard tube you can attach the magnets to it! This is an adult activity. We bought the magnetic tape that had a sticky side but we couldn’t get it to stick to the recycled cardboard. I just grabbed my glue gun and attach the pieces with that. So that my little one felt involved I had her take the white sticker paper off the backs of the magnets for me while I glued

3. Set up the magnetic board on the wall or you can use your side of your refrigerator or filing cabinet, any large magnetic surface works for this apple stem activity!

4. Cut an apple tree out of green construction paper. We also had some magnetic apples left from our Magnetic Apple Math Game. We attached the green apple leaf outline with magnets to the board but you could use tape too

Now it’s time to take the APPLE STEM CHALLENGE!

5. Give your preschooler the magnetic cardboard tubes and give them this STEM Challenge.

TASK: Make the apples go into the basket from the tree using the Magnetic Tubes

You could ask them a thinking question like….

Can you pick the apples from the apple tree using these tubes to make them go into the basket?

This is a problem solving game that incorporates science and a little bit of math since the book is 10 red apples. You child will have so much fun with this simple to make STEM Activity!

Apple STEM Network

Overview

Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education is at the center of nationwide efforts to provide our students with 21st century skills. Critical thinking, discovery, innovation and problem solving are the keys to success in tomorrow’s economy and STEM related job opportunities are growing at a rapid rate. While the STEM job market is ever-expanding, there is also a wealth of support for the case that fluency in STEM subjects is vitally important for every student; regardless of their eventual pursuit of STEM vocation.

The Apple STEM Network will take every opportunity to collaboratively provide resources and infrastructure through the coordinated efforts of K-12 educators, business partners, nonprofits, higher education institutes and community leaders to promote STEM literacy with a commitment to support and empower educators in our community to foster a deep appreciation of the utility of STEM fluency in each and every student.

North Central Washington is home to many underrepresented populations in STEM professions; therefore, great emphasis is placed on equity in connecting ALL students to STEM learning experiences, early and often, with hands-on experiences to spark interest and development opportunities and open doors to new career paths for these students who might someday prove to be an invaluable perspective as part of a thriving STEM profession.

STEM by the Numbers

Washington STEM’s annual STEM by the Numbers reports let us know if the system is supporting more students, especially students of color, students living in poverty and/or rural backgrounds, and young women, to be on track to attain high-demand credentials.
