There is no none in apple id

Question: Q: delete wrong apple ID from the appstore login

when I try to update my apps on the ipad the box that pops up has the wrong apple ID in it and I can not change it no matter what I do. I have re set the info in the settings and when viewed there the info is correct. When I get into the app store I still get the wrong ID no matter what I do. anyone have any suggestions

This is info on Find my iPhone which may be on he iPad. It must be on to work, after two months that is not likely.

Your password can’t be different if the Apple ID (which is your email) is the same . Your Apple ID and password are tied to your iTunes account, not the device. If you changed your password, it is changed for all. This has nothing to do with a passcode lock which you put on a device.

I know exactly what you are talking about!

My problem is very similar. No matter what I try, it keeps asking me for the old account, unless I reinstall the app.

But even the reinstalled apps keep asking for the old account for an update.

Did you figure out where this old account is stored?

Chris, I tried your solution but it did not work for me. I have changed my email address/sign-in at the Apple site and in ITunes both but my IPhone and IPad will not pick up the new Apple ID and there is no way to change it anywhere. When I go into Settings, Store, and touch the Apple ID which has my old email address/sign-in still, there is nothing that comes up where I can edit it. A screen comes up with my Apple ID at the top (not changeable) with with four options as follows: 1. View Apple ID (all that does is once again take me to somewhere that once again wants my Apple ID password and it has my old email address/sign-in that cannot be changed). 2. Sign Out 3. IForgot (for a password that you forgot) and 4. Cancel.

In ITune when I click on Sign In it will bring up a screen where both the User Name and Password are blank and I can fill it in with my correct information. But I simply cannot get my IPhone and IPad changed and, therefore, cannot get into ITunes at all on either device. This is really getting frustrating. I contacted ITunes Support and they could not figure it out either and advised me to go to technical support which I will not do because I will not pay for technical support. Any other suggestions?

So here’s one for ya.

I’m signed in to the Apple store with the correct ID. I can verify this by going into settings—>itunes—>etc. Also by going into the itunes app itself and scrolling to the bottom of the screen.

Here’s the problem. When I go into the app store and try updating apps that I’m absolutely certain I purchased with the ID that i’m signed in with (my ID), it asks for the password to my wife’s apple ID. I could just enter her password and all is fine and dandy EXCEPT it would make me pay for the app again since it was not originally purchased under her ID.

It seems to me that somewhere in the programming some master file that lists what ID the apps should be associated with became corrupted and now shows the wrong ID. Then only way I’ve found around this is to update the apps in iTunes on my computer first then sync my phone. Seems to not have any problem doing it that way.

This problem seems to be isolated to my iPhone 4s as I have an iPad 1st gen signed into my apple ID and updates the same apps without any problem on the device itself. Any smart programmers out there think they could write an executable program to fix the prob?

Chris-this does not work. I have signed in and out multiple times and the correct apple ID is listed in. settings/store. The correct apple ID is also listed in the app store at the bottom of the categories page yet when I go to update or purchase apps the wrong apple ID pops up in the box and I cannot change it. Please help! This is ridiculous!

I’m having a similar issue. Signed in to my iphone’s itunes and app store under on ID, when I try to update, the update prompt asks for the password of a different ID.

I’m positive I didn’t buy these apps under the different ID (which I can’t access anymore).

This is a problem.

See if this works.

Please note that you will need the username (and password) of the Apple ID that you no longer wish to use/update from — whether it is an old one or a friend’s.

If it is an old Apple ID you have forgotten the password for you can retrieve it at

The following works on iTunes on a Mac, I am not familiar with a Windows iTunes interface, but I assume it will be similar.

On your Mac/PC open iTunes (make sure it is updated). On the tabs on the left click on «iTunes Store». This will change the window on the right to the iTunes store. The top right corner should have your Apple ID or Sign In written. If there is an Apple ID written click on it and Sign Out. The corner should then change to «Sign In».

Now click on Sign In and sign in with the wrong/incorrect Apple ID that you no longer wish to use or update from.

Once logged in, click on the down arrow that shows when you move the pointer on the top right corner where it should now show the apple id, and select Account.

The page that opens up should have a section called «iTunes in the Cloud» with a tab on the side saying «Manage Devices».

Click on Manage Devices. Its should list your iPhone or iPad that you no longer wish to use with this Apple ID. And click Remove.

Once its confirmed click «Done» and from the top right corner select Sign Out.

All the point is that logging off iTunes does not help at all. There is no ability to enter proper AppleID. Always one ID is presented regardless what ID you are logged in AppStore and what was ID updraged aplication was bought from.

Same problem, all the apps on my IPhone were downloaded from my ID but when I hit update all, it asks me for an ID of a friend who’s iPhone I once updated. I have tried everything except delete all my apps and redownload them which is nonsense, this is just ridiculous.

APPLE, fix it or tell us how you ******.

or maybe a samsung galaxy S3 will have to fix this problem

I am having the same problem. in my settings, my «store» ID says one things, and when I go to the App Sotre application to update, another apple ID is there, and I cannot get rid of it.

I know exactly what you are talking about!

My problem is very similar. No matter what I try, it keeps asking me for the old account

What do you mena «old» account? You created a new iTunes account?

Apps are linked to the account you purchased them with and cannot be changed.

If you simply updated your account name, log out of the iTunes store then log back in.

Well, I am tired to explain this again and again. Signing out does not change anything. As well as changing this in settings. And it should not because while updating application ID of purchase should be prompted, not the one you are currently logged in AppStore. A year ago on 4.3 firmware that was working well. After some months that was broken and I never saw normal behavior since then. I don’t want to make complete reset to see whether it helps or not.

None of the answers posted here really solves this common problem, which apparently is difficult even to explain, due to too many irrelevant details, and sometimes unreasonable requests or explanations, often posted along with it, which make it frustrating even just reading this and other forums looking for a solution.

I’ll try to explain the issue I’m having, which I’m sure is the same as almost everybody else, in clear terms, in 3 lines:

Long ago I’ve bought several, relatively expensive, apps with an old Apple ID.

I then created another Apple ID, and bought (many) more paid-for apps under it.

Now I want all my purchased apps under my new Apple ID, because I’m absolutely SICK of having to switch IDs all the time to check and get updates, and of course I don’t want to pay for them again, as this would be unfair.

The problem IS NOT the free apps: I can just download them again under any ID, at any time.

The problem IS NOT having the same (paid-for) apps under more than ONE Apple ID: that’d be just confusing, and still that’s what some seem to be asking.

The problem IS NOT having the same (paid-for) apps available to more than ONE USER (as in «person», ie. authorised PC) while only paying once: that’d be unreasonable, and yet it’s what some seem to be asking.

The problem IS NOT switching IDs in iTunes or the iPhone, which seems so difficult for many: just sign out from an ID and back in with another, if you like complicating your life as I’m FORCED to do by the Apple store’s silly ID policy.

The problem IS: moving (merging) all my purchased apps between two Apple ID that demonstrably belong to me, in order to have all my apps under one Apple ID only. This ought to be possible. Apple gurus: HOW TO DO THIS, PLEASE?

Of course when I created a new account I was blissfully unaware that the Apple store links the apps to the Apple ID with which a user happens to be logged in at the time of the purchase/download, rather than to the USER, via the authorised PC: otherwise what’s exactly the purpose of authorising a PC? This critical information is nowhere to be found, until you infer it when you stumble in this problem, of the course.

The fact that the Apple ID is an email address, which seems disposable by its very nature, leads many people (like me) create and use more than one without knowing what they’re in for: I actually thought it was only for receiving emails from the Apple Store, NOT for authorising (ie. locking) my purchases: this isn’t explained anywhere.

If Apple doesn’t let me manage MY OWN legitimate purchases in such a trivial way as allowing me to have them all under ONE account, to be able to update them all easily, without effectively being FORCED to constantly switch IDs just to check (!) for updates to them, then their system is very poor and an incentive to use something else, and better.

The option that is sometimes suggested by Apple staff, to download them under the new ID and PAY AGAIN for them, is just an insult.

Question: Q: There was an error in Apple ID Preferences.

I cannot sign in Apple ID from MacBookAir (with MacOS Catalina 10.15.1, unfortunately, installed).

I know password. I can sign-in on browser (both in iCloud and in ID).

But on the Mac it simply throws the message:

System Preferences: «Preferences Error: There was an error in Apple ID Preferences.»

What kind of Error is that and what to do?

PS. When the Mac is shown as registered device on web and I try to sign in I’ve got another warning:

«Verification failed: An unknown error occurred.»

I’ve tried to delete the device from ID account. Now it accepts the credentials but fails either.

Some people have solved this by going to System Preferences/Internet Accounts, selecting an iCloud account there, and signing in. You need to repeat this for each iCloud account.

Might be a corrupt .plist.

Do a backup, preferably 2 backups on 2 separate drives.

Quit System Preferences.

Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command — J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.

Restart the computer, open the application, and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.

If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.

Step 3 is important, no matter whether you do this on a Mac or an iPad / iPhone:

Important: Before proceeding to the next step, you must download and install a free application. .

Important: Before proceeding to the next step, you must download and install the free application by tapping Free followed by tapping Install App. .

To summarize, you must first download a free app from the App Store. When you are asked to sign in with your Apple ID, select «Create new account». Accept the terms and conditions checkbox, then click Continue. After you enter all the requested personal data, click Continue.

That’s all there is to it.

I will spare you the indignity of re-quoting my own post nonlyniar. Read it again. Pay attention this time.

Ahh, the pleasure of quoting oneself ! As they say, the world may go down in flames, I don’t care if I’m right .

My attention span is rather limited, I admit, and I have better things to do than fight that phone — I am the CUSTOMER, so I always have the choice to walk away when I don’t like smth.

ANYWAY, for the rest of us: somewhere in the forums I saw somebody recommending funding your iTunes acct. using an iTunes gift card. The cheapest will cost you $15 (Office Max, or Best Buy, etc) but you will have piece of mind and complete control over to whom you choose to give your CC information.

Initially i never registered to itune store/ apps store. Directly i went to install free apps in itunes. first two pages i entered required data without any problem.

When i went to the page for Payment Type, there was no NONE option to select for free apps, it was mandatory to enter card number. I felt bad that i am not able to install free apps. But i dint stop trying.

I had my previous company salary account visa card (having only 27Rs) and also my old account visa where i forgot password. I used these two visa to do payment. But it dint accepted those visa number. May be because of low balance may be less than Rs 60.

Then i used a visa usually i keep only minimum balance Rs. 600 so that without taking risk i can do online shopping/payment, where i registered successfully in itune store/ apps store. But Rs. 60 was charged. I think it is the initial payment for itune store registration. Also the free apps got downloaded in itune sucessfully.

After that i downloaded 5 -6 free apps successfully without any charge.

After three days i checked my account for confirmation, the balance amount was proper.
